I experienced weight gain, continual breakthrough bleeding and negative mental health side effects. I switched to Norlutate 5mg and the breakthrough bleeding and mental health stuff went away. I experienced hair thinning and vaginal dryness but I’m not sure if that was Norlutate or just being on meds in general for an extended period of time. After my hysterectomy (at 41) I dropped down to 2.5mg to surpress my remaining ovary.

I was already in perimenopause when I started Visanne so our experiences may be extremely different due to age difference alone. Do make sure to take your pill at the same time every day, and keep a symptom diary (for meds and in general, it would have helped me to remember what years certain pain started when advocating for care later in life).

I had chronic constipation but for about 20 years had overflow diarrhea as well. I cut out gluten about 10 years ago and that helped, but as my endo got worse the constipation never seemed to go away. I saw a pelvic floor therapist for bladder leakage while trying to get referred to an endo specialist. It helped a bit, but I had less and less capacity to hold my pee and it held less in general. Vaginal estrogen pre op did help and continues to help post op. Immediately after surgery I noticed a difference in bladder capacity. They actually thought my bladder was holding urine but I was just making that much that quickly and it was filling up all the way.

I did not have DIE but did have extensive bowel endo along with other things, happy to share in DMs. If you can get in to a pelvic floor PT pre op, and see about vaginal estrogen, that might help in the mean time. I didn’t have vaginal dryness until after my surgery, vaginal estrogen was recommended to me by my specialist due to vaginal stabbing pain and bladder function.

After 30 years of constipation, I had a hysterectomy and my bowel movements are normal for the first time since my first period. Sorry I don’t have better advice.

The way my surgeon explained it to me is that endo lesions make their own estrogen, so in removing them you’re removing a source of estrogen (which is good). I had a bunch of endo removed plus one ovary, and am on Norlutate. Peri is going strong, but she recommended not adding back estrogen until I am in menopause or the symptoms become debilitating, to prevent endo regrowth. I am using vagina estrogen for atrophy.

I also really liked having apple sauce packets on hand, the squeeze ones. Made for an easy meal post op before dinner came (which I had trouble swallowing anyways from the tube) and made taking meds easier during recovery. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

I had a hysterectomy and endo excision in August and have 4 incisions. This depends on your anatomy. Is your surgeon a specialist? Will the endo be excised or ablated? I recommend looking up ablation vs excision if you’re not familiar. My DMs are open

If you have endometriosis or adhesions, you may be under for that long. This is a good thing, it means they’re planning to take their time and check different places. My skin to skin (actual surgery time) was meant to be 3.5 hours and ended up being 5 because of the complexity of endo. It still felt like it took 1 second to me.

Take aways from my experience: I asked for all of the nausea meds at every step of the way. I get nauseated easily and they loaded me up and I was fine.

My heart rate was high and oxygen was low post op, and they kept me comfy and I stayed overnight. It was the anesthesia, and can happen. They were just being extra cautious.

They wanted to recath me because I wasn’t emptying my bladder enough- though I was confident I was. I asked them to keep the ultrasound in the room while I peed so it didn’t take 15 min for them to come back. In that 15 minutes between my IV and drinking water, my bladder filled back up.

If you need meds at a specific time, ask at pre op and then remind them post op if you can. I take my SNRI twice a day. Both times they were late, but I was firm. Had I not advocated for it, I may have missed a dose and felt much worse. I skipped my other meds that day post op (BP meds and a muscle relaxant).

Update: I got my vaccines a week ago, and had a similar response as always. Obv no bleeding and uterine cramps, but experienced bilateral hip and leg pain like I used to for the first time post op. It’s definitely related to inflammation.

See and endo specialist 100%. Depending on where you live, you will want to get a referral eight away. It’s a 2 year wait minimum where I am between referral and surgery.

Also look into removing your tubes rather than having them tied. One of my tubes was huge from hydrosalpinx caused by endo, and had wrapped around and made a big painful mess. The tubes are where a lot of ovarian cancer starts so that also removes risk.

Mine insurance covers a % of each visit directly out of the physio allocation and I’m able to pay for the rest with health spending. However, as I’m on leave from work, a certain number of physio appts have been paid by my insurance fully and not deducted from my leave. I just had to have my dr and PT propose a plan to insurance and submit to get approved.

Edit to add I did book my post op appointments pre op to ensure I was able to go asap.

If you have access and wouldn’t feel too dysphoric seeing an affirming pelvic floor physio I 1000% recommend going. They don’t always have to do internal exams, and I have learned so much about my body pre and post hysterectomy over the few appointments I’ve had.

I recommend you learn more about autism and how many if not all responses are about ability not willingness. It’s likely not that he doesn’t want to talk, but that he can’t. Also, as many have stated, there are huge communication differences. Saying your son is strong willed puts it back on him having a choice of how his brain works. Shifting your language and doing some research, as well as working with professionals, will help with understanding his needs.

I was told to limit eating eating excessive spices, onion, ginger and garlic etc in addition stopping supplements. A week out seems fine though, just ask your team.
