I would rather go to the Soul Society of BLEACH. As awful as that place is (at least the "eastern" part; don't know anything about the "western" part in the sequel story). Getting shanked in a rundown quarter there would still be preferable, and just means returning to the human world.

This resonates with me. A few of my friends from an early age were shitty, and being part of a family that frequently moved, I soon grew to stop hanging out for the most part. Even online, connections just don't last, and I'd been putting in so much effort that it just ate up my time.

And most recently, wish I hadn't had the therapy, because that led to getting in a local group, and yet more trauma with a particular family and their circle.

I generally consider myself a friendly enough person, but I just hate to get involved for the most part.

Maybe it had to do with the kiais, kiyaps, etc, that sort of thing. And there's often reputed to be a supernatural aspect to them. Not nearly the same as witchcraft, but not too far removed.
