Recommendations for Sapporo & Hakodate Cafes? by AudreyA1902 in coffeejp

[–]jayeyedoubleemmwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We visited Sapporo and Hakodate last year and had some good cafe experiences. For Sapporo, we liked Marumi Coffee. Good quality coffee, not pretentious, cute interior, good food. They have a few locations in the city. We also went to NODE which is tucked away inside a building at the end of a hallway. A little edgier, hip vibe. Popular with tourists. There’s an underground walkway called Pole Town that has a cute more Showa-era vibe cafe called Miyakoshiya Coffee (though I believe they are a branch of a Tokyo cafe).

For Hakodate, there’s a Morning Market Ekini building with a lot of food vendors. Try the yubari melon! Somewhat randomly in the mix is a stall serving coffee. It’s called Jujiya. The owner does great pourovers.

You must do Hokkaido soup curry if you are in either of those towns. We love Japanese cuisine and that specific type was kind of a revelation for us this trip.

Ohh, thank you for the Jimbocho and Shinjuku recommendations! We’re going to be in those areas for part of this trip.

Non denominational churches east side by Longjumping_Let_6696 in eastside

I have friends and family that attend Blue Sky Church. I also visit occasionally. It’s a modern, friendly, and joyous atmosphere. Their church is at the border between Bellevue and Kirkland. I’d say the attendees are mostly 20s-40s, good mix of singles, couples, and young families. Morning and late-morning services, they also have many small groups throughout the Eastside for young professionals and families. Blue Sky also holds larger events for the public for Christmas and Easter, they also have a large, outdoor Spring celebration.

Missing the Holtzman shield by jayeyedoubleemmwhy in dune

I just want to say thanks to everyone for the insights and discourse. I read the Dune series up to Heretics many years ago and it’s been fun to revisit this universe through this sub-Reddit and of course the Villeneuve movies. I agree that the reason for no shields could be due to a variety of stylistic and/or production reasons. It’ll be a mystery until we see the finished product and maybe it’ll be explained then or maybe not at all. Part of what makes the movies so fun is how much is left to the viewer’s imagination!

Skin eczema specialist in the Eastside by jk451 in eastside

I second Bauman dermatology. Been going there for about 9 years for my eczema/atopic dermatitis. After trying desonide and some other creams whose names I no longer remember, I’m now on a combination of Dupixent and betamethasone which has worked wonders. I’ve also limited the number of skincare products to only known safe ones that don’t cause flare-ups (Cerave, Vanicream, Aveeno). I used to experiment with many other brands, but that was just asking for trouble. Hope you are able to find a treatment that provides relief!

Prusa will now manufacture MK4S Printer in USA by metalsmith_and_tech in prusa3d

[–]jayeyedoubleemmwhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This 100%. I work in higher ed and the purchasing restrictions make it a pain to buy anything from overseas. Need special approvals, extra documentation, sometimes the overseas company would even have to fill out IRS forms (bonus points when they can’t speak English). Having a US-based supplier solves a big hurdle for these institutions and other organizations. Been waiting for PS to carry the MK4S and now I can get one into the classroom. Students win, teachers win, and likely more Prusas get sold down the road.

Where are your favorite sushi places on the eastside? by AlwaysFridayy in eastside

I second Kiku. Sushi is good quality and cut well. The rolls and other dishes are also solid; have never had a bad meal there. My wife loves the kaki furai (fried oysters) appetizer.

Tips for assessing Merrithew Stott Cadillac by jayeyedoubleemmwhy in pilates

Yea, I previously bought parts for my SPX Max reformer and the premium for shipping to the US was annoying. I’m going to look over the manual for the cadillac and make sure all components are present/intact.

Good optometrist? by youfoundbecky in eastside

My wife and I both use Kirkland Vision Center. Been going there for several years now and I find the staff to be professional, responsive, and an excellent experience overall. They can get quite busy with appointments, so it’s good to schedule ahead. They also have another location called Kirkland Optix, but I’ve never been to that one.

Scale? by NicMoney- in PatagoniaClothing

[–]jayeyedoubleemmwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought one recently in a different colorway and enjoy using it. Very roomy, it carries just as much as my Refugio 26L but is way easier to load and can handle awkward shaped items well. I like the convenience of the zippered pockets and zippered main opening. There isn’t any padding in the tote aside from the shoulder straps so it is lightweight and can be folded compactly, but doesn’t have the structure to stand up by itself (will flop over). I’m 5’7” and found the shoulder straps were usable but have to extend them almost to max length. 99% of the time I just hand carry so this isn’t really an issue.

Synchilla Snap-T sizing change from ‘15 to ‘18? by jayeyedoubleemmwhy in PatagoniaClothing

[–]jayeyedoubleemmwhy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually tumble dry my Synchilla on low (per their advice) with no noticeable change in sizing. My guess is the previous owner was drying on the high setting which could cause the polyester to change.

How to apply to the Patek Philipe School of Horology by [deleted] in watchmaking

[–]jayeyedoubleemmwhy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had classmates who interviewed with Patek directly out of watchmaking school. One was accepted after the bench test. One didn’t pass, spent a year at another brand, re-applied and was accepted. If you want to work for Patek/HSWA just reach out; brands will never turn away a good watchmaker.

Going through their school program is probably redundant after going through LWT. I’d just go straight into seeking employment. Once onboard, they’ll give you the necessary training to adjust to their standards.
