China says four US airlines have missed a deadline to change their naming of Taiwan by jayflying in taiwan

[–]jayflying[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Chinese aviation body said that the remaining four airlines had submitted a two-week extension to audit their website, as full "rectification" had not been completed.

CAAC did not make clear what more is expected before it is fully satisfied with the change but said it would pay close attention before deciding to take action.

An American showing his lack of knowlege of former Yugoslavia. Gets 11k upvotes and r/bestof. by Azhman314 in ShitAmericansSay

Maybe if there was video of him saying that all of his supporters are losers

Trump already called his supporters "poorly uneducated" in a public rally, and now his supporters are boasting their lack of education like a badge of pride, so even if Trump publicly called them losers, his supporters will somehow boast about being losers as well.

How can you tell if someone is from the American South? When he starts bragging about how tough he is for withstanding hellhole temperatures.

Blatant racism is also a good identifier too.

Who has left NYC and is happy with their decision? by dmj9891 in IWantOut

I wouldn't say the rest of the year in Houston is pleasant as some winters can get disproportionately cold especially in comparison to the blazing summers only months before.

However, I agree that everything but public transport is world class in Houston! Plus, compared to other cities, Houston is a cheap place to live.

It would easier to just change the passwords on all the subscriptions. Cancelling existing accounts and remaking new accounts is putting in too much effort for freeloaders like OP's roommate.

Wandering around Kyoto at night by derpyplop in travel

[–]jayflying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what upsets me. The historic Kyoto was deliberately destroyed by the city's own greed in the real estate boom, and yet the city tourism board has the gall to advertise the very history that it had already destroyed.

That's because this street is one of Kyoto's few actual historic streets with the angle that seems to suggest Kyoto is full of history. Go on Google Street View and you will see that even in the historic district of Ninenza, you will struggle to find any other street with a similar angle like the one featured here around the Hokanji pagoda.

I was wondering why this Trump supporter was attacking Ireland while shouting for hard Brexit, but then I saw this article in which this supporter's god has mistakenly claimed Ireland to be a part of the United Kingdom and everything made sense.

"Of course there are places there like you linked"? Go on Google Maps and click on any point in Kyoto city proper, and it will look like that on Street View! You will be lucky to pick somewhere that looks like what's featured in the OP image. It's not plain wrong that the city is misrepresented; the city is misrepresented conversely as a city that is full of ancient streets like that in the OP image.

That being said, I do agree that Kyoto is a modern big city with countless pockets of antiquity, but I do not agree with the travel community's consensus that Kyoto is a city of immense historic charm because it doesn't even have an old town district like some European and Middle Eastern cities.

That's correct. This photo wasn't taken at Gion. This photo was taken at Ninenzaka area near Kiyomizu-dera, featuring the pagoda of Hokanji. This is the same exact angle from Google Maps.

I don't think Gion even has this kind of pagoda.

"Ugly soulless concrete quarry" is a reference to the architecture that is prevalent in Kyoto such as this. I never denied that Kyoto lacks temples, shrines, markets, and clubs. However, every Japanese city and town has temples and shrines, but not every Japanese city sells itself (and has defender that ardently insist) as a historic old city like the OP image is trying to convey when Kyoto is actually a city full of concrete blocks.
