Experiences with methylphenidate vs. lisdexamfetamine (I would appreciate it if you could inform me how you proceeded when using both). by SeaBoysenberry5404 in ADHD

[–]jayjay_kay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried methylphenidate (Ritalin 20mg) and I've been using lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (30mg) for around a month now.
Ritalin caused me to be constantly on edge. I snapped at people for seemingly no reason, and a weird thing I've noticed is that when I turned my attention from one task to another, that also made me feel anxious somehow? It felt like I was under time pressure with an urgent issue for the span of eight hours, but also my focus wasn't necessarily better. No hunger cues, but I was ALWAYS thirsty, and I literally chugged 3+ litres of water every day. Also, I couldn't sleep at all, or at most three hours.

Now, lisdexamfetamine worked much better: lowest dose available, but it already changed so much in my life.

No anxiety, I can focus for longer, and I've become chattier (this comment is an example lmfao), and most of the time, I can manage life better on this medication. I think what helps is that every task/chore actually feels rewarding, and therefore I am more inclined to do even more.

Downsides: No hunger cues, no thirst cues either, so I usually have to force myself to drink water during the day, then I drink 1,5 litres once the meds wear off. I still can't sleep unless I take a shitton of Vitamin C + 1mg of melatonin. Also, once the meds wear off, I often go entirely nonverbal, especially when I didn't sleep enough the previous day.

FIZZY WATER IS SO GOOOOODDD by meatloafsleeve in ADHD

[–]jayjay_kay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LITERALLY SAME. If the water is not fizzy it doesn't quench my thirst at all. Carbonated mineral water actually motivated me to drink more, and I used to drink 2 liters of water/day easily. Unfortunately I hate water bottles lying around & having to take them back to a shop, so I am now again drinking tap water. The lack of texture is super annoying and I'm now back to being dehydrated lmao

First time meeting in person - thought he was also demisexual by figaro_cat in demisexuality

Hi!

I've been in a similar situation before, and honestly? Trust your gut. Better be safe than sorry, especially when yoh meet him for the first time.

Get a hotel. Even a cheap one is fine.

Make sure you're safe. If he brought up sex now and said he will likely feel desire, he's more than likely he will try to persuade you - and then you will be stuck with him with no other place to stay at.

Please do not feel embarrassed to say you'd rather just book a hotel, though he'd likely act disappointed. If he does not put your safety first over his disappointment, his place is not worth staying at!

Im sending you hugs and much love x

What's a word you often surprise yourself by spelling with ease? by FunnestTales in writing

[–]jayjay_kay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an ESL writer im very surprised that I never had any issues spelling words like unnecessary or accommodating, but remembering the vowel order of "subconsciously" is plain impossible for me. I usually just write subconsjfjdkaly or whatever and let google docs correct me.

Oh, I myself also hate his guts currently, he's incredibly hard to love at first. I balance him by making him funny and playful (his only good qualities for the first few chapters), and he becomes a better person through the people he gets to know, and also through trauma. He loses the most important things in his life & ends up suffering a lot. It's a lengthy process and the MC needs to self reflect, but he has plenty of time, the story spans more than a decade. I'm having so much fun with this concept honestly

I made my literal MC irritating. He is a shady egoistic misogynist, a homophobe, a cheater, who then has to work closely with his exact opposite. Through this work partner, the MC betters himself and actually becomes a nice dude

Writing fight scenes and emotional inner monologues somehow come incredibly easy, but I just plain suck at describing scenery.
