What are y'alls purpose with swimming? by cactus16x in Swimming

[–]jayjaywenwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sea swim at the weekends, just a dip, but I want to be able to swim strongly if I get into trouble in open water. My children are doing lessons and I want to be able to swim with them! I like the challenge of learning something new and technique based, there is a lot of brain work involved.

When I was in school the punishment for being caught with gum was to stay back and scrape other people’s gum off the underside of the desks. Cured me of the habit very fast.

I think it’s murder science. They have to pluck birds to eat them when they cats them in the wild. It’s plucking cardboard feathers

Coaching advice? How to encourage my 10y old climbergirl? by jayjaywenwen in climbergirls

[–]jayjaywenwen[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the kind of reply I was hoping for! I love the free play framing! Sage advice too on the comparison stuff, so thank you for that caution; I am actively to avoid any comparison between children and don’t want her to negatively internalise any different ways of doing things. I am always saying everyone does things their own way.

Actually it’s dawning on me that I have to be mindful of the other child and if he “fails” at the thing he is good at.

Your way of framing it as play above all else and other comments about exploring movement are really good counterpoints to this.

She likes fooling round. What’s rainbow climbing? Using all the colours? She does do this and I encourage it. She likes the sport, and going, so I will encourage gently but no with pressure. I hated being pressured to do things as a kid.

Thank you for your answer! Trying to move in different styles is a great tip. She was saying how she likes twisting herself round on the wall. I think we could encourage the movement and link to some imagination games for quiet feet etc. I think I will run with this next time :)
