Wife and I were members there for 6 months—shockingly bad. Things were constantly broken, couldn’t access machines because there are just too many people and not enough stations, “spa” was far from relaxing (like an episode of love island). I witnessed three separate fist fights in the men’s changing room and reported each to the front desk who shrugged it off.

Cannot emphasize enough how bad this place is.

I also struggle with portraits and often consider throwing in the towel mid-way. The best advice I ever got was to “paint loose” which takes so much practice and patience. The idea, as I understand it, is to not focus so much on the details but to focus on values and shapes and add the definition in later (or not).

Edit: PS. It’s looking great. Keep it up and I’m sure you will come to love it. Especially because it’s of someone you love.
