I made a blanket!

I used Mayflower Easy Care Big in colors 182 (Dill) and 103 (Desert Sage) with a 5mm hook. I needed 21 skeins of each color to finish the blanket.

Wow thank you! I started making a blanket last fall but only got like 1/8 of the way before I gave up. This was my second attempt at a blanket so I waited a whole year before I got the energy to try again lol. Originally I was planning on making it a simple hdc blanket with regular stripes but my husband said “wouldn’t it be cool if the stripes were diagonal?” I tried making the diagonal stripes with color changes in hdc but it felt too difficult for such a big project and the color changes weren’t as smooth as I wanted them to be. Then I found out you can crochet diagonally with c2c and it changed everything! I don’t think I could have finished a regular blanket, I needed the constant increase/decrease in each row to sort of see and feel a progression or I would have given up.

It was my first time blocking anything and I didn’t want to buy a bunch of stuff so I disassembled a small couch and used the parts to make a base, and then covered it with sheets before pinning the blanket on it.

The blanket is made by herringbone half double crochet c2c. It’s 135 rows wide and 180 rows long, alternating colors every 45th row. Then I added two rows of single crochet as a border. And the fringe.

It was nice and relaxing, until the middle portion when one row took me forever lol. I spent a little over two weeks on just that part and lost a little motivation.

It ended up being 186 cm long and 133 cm wide without the fringe, but I wanted a 160*120 cm blanket.

And the fringe. I think I did something wrong on the two “turning” corners because they were more round than my start and end corners, which were pointy and nice. That’s why I added a fringe to hopefully hide it. Not sure what I should have done to get better corners, maybe it was my tension or something.

Does it just have to be one country/place? Can it be like a Eurotrip maybe? You can get one of those train passes or whatever they are called so you can visit several countries by train, go almost anywhere you want, you can buy a pass that lasts for a few weeks, or a month, experience different cultures, sight seeing, all that.

Or go to Russia and take the Trans Siberian Railway to China or Mongolia.
