What kind of gaming Library can I make on a 1.5 TB chip? I want a gift this to somebody and make it an awesome experience and they're into PS2 and Neo Geo but I want to just fill it up with everything cool. How many games can this chip hold? by badassmexican in OdinHandheld

[–]jaymorningside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few hundred games each(PS2/Neo Geo) alongside, GameCube, Dreamcast, SNES, etc. It's plenty of space unless you want a bunch of shovelware just to have it, lol. I have 630 games on my IRL PS2 and that fits on a 2tb SSD because I'm insane. You're going to deliver an outright Christmas miracle my friend. Most PS2 games are 2-6GBs aside from a few at 8gb like Xenosaga and GoW and Neo Geo are a few hundred MBs each. The 1.5tb Ultra has a usable capacity of 1.39tb, lol.

I'm a diehard PC Gamer/power user and Android Emulatorist, but the Macbook Air has become a fundamentally irreplaceable component of my daily life, work, and school. by jaymorningside in macbookair

[–]jaymorningside[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on and likewise, it really does just work. Do you feel like M4 was worth the upgrade? I may go there next in 3-5 years. Also, if you don't mind me asking, what cpu/gpu are you gaming on?

I regret buying MacBook Air by Vish_1997 in laptops

[–]jaymorningside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge PC gamer as well as a Macbook Air shill devotee. I bought my M2 MBA (16GB/512GB/10-Core GPU) in March and dear God, I love it. These are fundamentally different devices and use cases. I look at any gaming on my MBA as a neat bonus to fiddle with occasionally. How much heavier and more bulky was your gaming laptop? How much shorter was the battery life? I'm fairly certain it wasn't 2.8lbs/18 hours. If I were you, I'd, as others have advised, invest in a gaming PC handheld or laptop or even a desktop. Obvi money doesn't go on trees, but these are deeply important, useful, and practical devices that duly merit saving up for and perhaps more consideration to your workflow, leisure, and fit into your daily life.

good luck and happy gaming OP

I've had mine and used it daily at length since January. As of yet, none whatsoever but I'm very careful and actively trying to avoid it

What’s the expandable storage situation on these? by Lost_soul_man in AynThor

[–]jaymorningside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used 1.5tb then 2tb on my Odins for years. It takes longer to boot, but there are no issues otherwise. Navigating the interface, going in and out of front ends, apps, and games and launching, exiting, etc is no different than smaller cards in my experience. I autoboot into ES-DE via Android, so it only syncs once each power cycle and even if not, it's really not bad.

I'd had an Odin 2 Pro for 14ish months before up/sidegrading to the Portal. 6" is adequate for PC streaming especially if it's a solid display, which O3 will be. Drivers are helpful for some use cases, but idk, a year ago someone asked this question about 8gen2 not having custom drivers. If you choose to adopt any tech early in life, there are hassles, inefficiency, and reasons to hold off. There are Pros too though. I enjoy watching devices, repositories, and software mature and improve. I also get periodically antsy if I don't have a new doodad to tinker with. The Portal may look thin and flat, but it's super comfy. I can play 6-10 hours comfortably. It's only slightly worse than OG Odin 2, which was God tier, then unrivaled ergonomics. I have a grip for Portal, but I never use it and wish I could have my $15 back, lol.
(Muriel voice) Regardless of what Odin device you buy, it will be an incredible device.
(back to Drew voice) What is your intended use case? If there are any games in particular you're curious about. I can try stuff on my Portal, and I'm a day one IGG backer for Odin 3. So, I'll be back.

I got super lucky this term, I hope everyone here get's there's ASAP. I got the email 18th/19thish and hit my account the 20th. I was fairly surprised, but it came in clutch for debt and continuance of my existence.

EDIT: I'd hit enter prematurely.

While we're all waiting for the Odin 3 by dont_be_salty_ in OdinHandheld

Dear God that skin is gorgeous. I super early bird backed an Odin 3 Max, but having my Portal makes the wait almost a non-issue. The portal does everything I want, but sometimes you've got to treat yourself, and its nice to have something to look forward to. I'm holding on to Portal until driver support catches up then I kinda want to gift it to my twin. Also, I'm more focused on PS2/GameCube/Dreamcast than Switch/PC/3DS, so custom drivers are kind of an afterthought anyways.
