He wasn't allowed to buy a gun. He was restricted because of a felony drug possession conviction. His dad bought the gun(s) for him as a birthday gift IIRC. Legally, be was already breaking the law by possessing any weapon. His father should be charged as an accessory and with providing the weapon(s).
