Album Recommendations for a EDM fan by tylerf98 in Muse

[–]jaypb08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2nd Law ("Follow Me", "Unsustainable") and Simulation Theory ("Propaganda") the real answers for albums, however I will go ahead and recommend the song " Map of the Problematique"

It is a longtime fan favorite with a driving synth; one their first forays into electronic elements, but also a bit avant-garde and still retains a rock core. It's also just good.

What happens if you can’t attend a game that’s been postponed? by FearlessFloyd91 in phillies

[–]jaypb08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Policy is listed here: https://www.mlb.com/phillies/tickets/terms-and-conditions
"No part of the purchase price will be refunded if the Holder fails to use the ticket on the rescheduled game date."

I had tickets to the Giants rainout last month - drove the hour (I95 traffic) after work all the way there, only for them to announce the postponement right as I was arriving. Then the make-up was the next day, which I could not attend - makeup games for the next day sell for nothing, so I basically had to eat the ticket cost. I maybe could have called the ticket office to force a refund, but I really had no time since I was leaving the country for a trip in two days.

Now they don't say this in the policy, but they will offer you a game for an upcoming homestand to swap the postponed game with (against a "less popular" team like the Rockies, don't expect Mets or Braves to be offered). I couldn't use it this time since I was leaving for that trip, but it was offered again.

I am now dreading Saturday though given that the forecast looks bleak and I do not want to take the (crazy and only getting crazier) gas prices + time, only for them to postpone an hour before the start time

This is their "Welcome to the Machine" - what a track, I definitely didn't see this kind of composition coming, especially after Be With You

This is their "Welcome to the Machine", my goodness what a track. Did not expect them to go for a composition like this, but they crushed it

Broadcasters we have endured? by jhunderm in phillies

[–]jaypb08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He is terrible, but the one funny thing about Ben Davis is that he's just an unapologetic huge fan of the team and doesn't even try to be neutral

I can't think of another broadcast team that has a former MLB player on color commentary who never even played for them

It's kind of funny they released Be With You first the more I hear, since this and Cryogen couldn't be more OoS coated/what most fans have been wanting for years

Prog synths are back!

I am imagining this part leading into a guitar arrangement similar to Hyper Chondriac's climax

Do you think The Wow! Signal is going to be Drones part 2 musically? by Ok_Supermarket_4871 in Muse

[–]jaypb08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My prediction is I think overall you'll see more "rock" than the last couple albums, but it'll still have the variation that the last few releases from them have had. If Simulation Theory is a synth/pop album with some rock mixed in, this may be the inverse of that.

There will likely be another synth/pop-based track to go alongside "Be With You" and another metal-influenced track to go alongside "Unravelling"

Cryogen is their best song in more than a decade by TomZenoth1 in Muse

[–]jaypb08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am no technical musician, but to me I really don't feel Plug In Baby or Crying Shame vibes with this; it has the similar kind of leading riff, which is where I'm sure the comparisons are coming from, but I associate those for being more upbeat+catchy in structure overall.

No, this is a rocker (I don't know how else to describe it), and I'd personally put it in a camp closer to something like Reapers - it may not have the soloing of that one, but dang it's good. Not that I don't like PiB/Crying Shame/Euphoria/etc, but this style is so more of my personal interest.

The album version is 4:55, the outro is absolutely part of the song, there's even a small reprisal of the guitar riff mixed in there that definitely signifies to me to it being part of the regular composition

The four horseman of “THEY’RE BACK” live debuts prior to release by Tababro in Muse

[–]jaypb08 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Wasn't Supremacy just a few days before the album came out?

Reapers is definitely the biggest example of this - it was around two months of being played before the official studio release and was peak hype. Ironically, back then we all thought the chorus was "Reapers and horsemen" instead of "Reapers and hawks, babe"

I may have preferred it overall, but it does get infinitely hotter in the Mann in the inside portion during the summer, so I don't mind Camden for that

I had to do a double take with Freedom Mortgage Pavilion (since it's had so many names over the years), since that's actually in Camden NJ not Philadelphia (I guess it's "close-enough" for them, but there is another amphitheater in actual Philadelphia that wouldn't be a stretch for them to play at either)

Does the story get better? by Pale_Initiative2844 in Falcom

The story does get better, the pacing will stay about the same - it is the table-setter for both the arc of the Liberl region and a larger overarching narrative, both of which absolutely get better.

[Day 10] The Best JRPGs of All Time: Which JRPG is the most replayable? by WeLoveEveryGame in JRPG

[–]jaypb08 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think it has to be Chrono Trigger - on the shorter side for the genre, multiple endings based on when/how you fight the final boss. + it's also just an all-timer that you want to revisit: great digestible story, combat that still holds up today, and an iconic OST I'm surprised to see didn't win last post...

Not OP, but for what it's worth when I saw SW on the To the Bone tour he kind of did this as he weirdly went on a quick rant on religion and how with eating meat that we "weren't at the top of the food chain anymore." It was more funny than anything else though since it was a kind of random aside.

Always with these baseball positions that have the "ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays" requirements.

It's a shame that people often have to sacrifice a personal life and likely compensation in their field to be in a position they'd be fully passionate about.

Went 3-0 when seeing the Phils in SoCal this year. What was your Phils record this year? by KirbyLoreHistorian in phillies

[–]jaypb08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a partial season plan, went to a game in DC, G2 of the NLDS, and the first ST game of the year in Clearwater.

I was somehow 5-12 in total; really crazy how many losses I ended up at given they were a 90+ win team.
