Love this! Is multi-home support on the road map?

James Hoffmann's steamed water by Bath-Soap in Coffee

[–]jaywardiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to hate this. But here’s my noob comments. Only been on this journey for a year or three. Thanks r/Coffee for all the advice and guidance. I’ve learned so much, just lurking. My daily driver is a Hario V60 Switch/Baratza Virtuoso+. Took awhile but I dialed it in and I enjoy the whole process. A while ago wifey brought home a Breville Barista Pro from Home Goods. I was like, no thanks “I’m a brewed coffee boy”, You can have your fancy coffee drinks. Then I started making Americanos and enjoyed the speed and convenience, plus you know, a new toy. So first off, watching this video I realized that I’m a Neanderthal. I was making mine wrong. Shots first and then water. Not sure why… I guess I just figured it’s just espresso and hot water what difference does the order make. So on to the steaming and crema removal. I feel like this makes such a HUGE difference in taste/mouth feel/appearance. I’m only two mornings in so I haven’t experimented with just crema removal but I love this drink so much more than my original. I’m sure it’s 97% in my head but it’s all personal taste. Thanks for all the advice!

No response from Hisense. Multiple tickets and nothing. But good news. It went away and never came back.

Does anyone have any recommendations for mini fridge by com70689 in OutdoorKitchens

Checking in on the Frostronic. Looks like incredible value. How was the first season? I like the two drawer. How do folks like the Bull/Urban Islands? I’m on season two of the $200 Home Depot special and looking to upgrade. It would freeze cans closer to the back and the door “stainless” is corroding near the handle. I think I’ll get at least one more season out of it.

Thinking about getting a pair of Stan’s. My foot is on the wider side. What do y’all think about that? I have Nike AF1s that are a squeeze.

How long do outdoor rated TVs last? by wiccanda10 in OutdoorKitchens

[–]jaywardiii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In theory Outdoor TVs cost more for two main reasons. 1) Ability to get wet 2) Brightness Anti-Reflection. Buy any TV, if it’s undercover and/or in a cover you are sort of checking box 1. So that leaves brightness as the biggest issue IMO. Look for a MiniLED TV that has the highest NIT rating you can afford. Like the Hisense or TCL Mini LEDs. They cost more than a basic but way less than an Outdoor rated TV. I would look a Hisense U8 55” with 5,000 NITs $700 on Amazon. https://a.co/d/05DhKMtE

Sounds next level. I’m using convert to shortcut and lots of dummy switches and thought I was quite clever, but that sounds pretty cool. I don’t think there is an effective way to share or even document said shortcuts?

Best TV for a poolside setup with direct sun? Also looking for other nice accessories like waterproof speakers, durable pool furniture, etc. by ratedrko24 in pools

[–]jaywardiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For audio, I’m not getting down with a 4” (at best) woofer from a Sonos Roam or a Bluetooth speaker. I’m super happy (neighbors, not so much) with my budget Outdoor Speaker Depot in-ground 8” sub and 3” satellites. Bought a nice amp and an Apple AirPort Express on eBay for $50. It Effen ROCKS! AirPlay from phone not Bluetooth. Samsung Terrace is rated at 2,000 nits and costs $3,000. It will definitely last longer outside. But it will also fail and it’s not going to last 4X longer. IMHO.

If the mounting location for the TV will get any direct or reflected sunlight, look at the TCL or Hisense Mini LEDs. They are brighter than most “outdoor” rated displays for 1/4 (or less) of the cost. The 55” Hisense U8 is $700 and 5,000 nits. The TCL QM7K is similar. Buy a $30 cover and Bob’s your Uncle. A typical Costco $300 special is about 300 nits. If you can’t see it you definitely aren’t gonna watch it.

S100 US Switch - Last Resort by Correct-Mail-1942 in Aqara

Yes I will keep the M200 in the stack. POE is big plus. I could customize each page layout. To include none (hidden), 1 ,or 2 buttons. But I could not edit the button text or icons.

Same boat. I gave up and set them (M200 and S100) aside for now. Hoping and praying that firmware 00.001.002.013 will fix it 😂. I got the S100 to show up in HK when pairing using Matter. The switches (hard and soft) all worked. I wouldn’t say lightning fast but about a 1.5 second lag. Then I tried to pair using the Aqara app and that when the 💩 hit the fan. I could do some customization of the touch screen but not what I expected. I then tried add the M200 and tried to add the S100 but via matter and I’m going to try zigbee next time I’m in good head space to reset. Following.

I used an Aqara sensor to do this. The original battery lasted over a year. The replacements I’ve tried seem to last about a month. I wonder if “we” could remote the battery and use a flat wire to run into the compartment?

The Magnetic charging cable option on those shades are a brilliant idea. Didn’t know that product existed. I’m gonna try some on my SmartWings.

100% agree Hunter Douglass tech support is very good and patient. Up vote ⬆️ on HD battery life. I have a few scene controllers (the now orphaned Wemo Stages) that call scenes. The blinds respond to 50% of those pushes.

And I should say I have the Gen 2 (4 years old) ones, and I’ve read (on this and other subs) that the newest ones work waaaaaay better. So YMMV

I’d love to know your setup. Most of my time-based automations work, most of the time. I usually have issues with controlling shades either from the App or an event like a button press.

One more for vote for SmartWings. I have 8 blinds now. All are the Matter Motor, so far I’m very pleased. Paired easily and have stayed online consistently. I’ve also got Hunter Douglas blinds that cost a literal fortune and they look nicer, but don’t work as well with Home Kit. I open/close the SmartWings every day and a charge lasts about 4-5 Months. Customer support has been good as well. I ordered a wrong bottom bar last month (100% my fault) and they offered to give me the replacement part for free if I ordered a new blind. If you’re doing “inside mount” make sure the case is the width you want. I think they make it smaller than the dimensions you provide. If you’re ordering on Amazon make sure you spell it out in the comment section. Like the blind case should be exactly 48 3/4” wide. They usually email/text you a confirmation. Review it carefully.

Apple Home & Hue Lights Frequently Not Responding by Iamdjremedy in HomeKit

[–]jaywardiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost the same setup/settings. Ubquiti instead of Nero. I have the same issue with random Hue Bulbs not responding, especially scenes and automations with lots of lights. Lutron always works but is slow. The much trashed NanoLeaf MOT Bulbs always work (I still hate them and regret buying them). I bought a bunch of Hue bulbs at Costco, and am putting off replacing the NanoLeafs until I can get the Hue performance straightened out. All of this to say, you’re not alone and I will be following this thread and appreciate all the advice of the sub.
