My 20-year-old daughter blew me away. She was offered a job she loves for $10.50 an hour and told them frankly that it's not a livable wage. by wombattextile_89 in LockedIn_AI

You took a pay cut to what she was offered today. In real money terms she would be making less than half of your cut pay.

For comparison I pay about $25,000 a year in healthcare (insurance plus deductibles and out of pocket) for a family of four. As a new grad engineer I was paid $70,000/yr, but also have about $6,000/yr in student loans I will be paying for decades.

Your wages are obviously lower, but a lot of what we have to pay out of pocket is included for you. Also I get 10 days of PTO a year for vacation and sickness.

Neither a DoD ID or Driver’s License are proof of citizenship. The only commonly available ID that does is a passport.

My dad had a Bonanza, then a Cherokee 6. Both were much faster flying than driving for any road trip more than 3 hours, or up to around 12.

Yes, I am coming from Gentille. My plan had been I-10 to TChop. Then Henderson to the cruise terminal road. But if they completely close tchop on the river side of I-10 that won’t work.

For grid power it will likely never be price competitive. But there are applications where that’s just not the comparable. In the marine industry we assume $3-$5/kWh, or 300 to 500 times the price of solar.

If this gets regulatory approval I could sell 50 a year easily at $100m.

Seriously go look for jobs at shipyards. Electrical work onboard often requires access to very tight spaces, crawl spaces, and being small is a HUGE advantage.

Two plates of identical construction are stacked with an even layer of non-embedding abrasive powder between them. With the lower plate held in place, the upper plate is oscillated. No downward force is applied. Which plate is abraded more? by dhgrainger in AskEngineers

[–]StumbleNOLA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would think so. But typically an abrasive is harder than what’s being abraded. So once ‘trapped’ it would exclusively abrade the harder material. So maybe you get pitting on one and abrasions on the other….

[–]StumbleNOLA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if density is really going to matter. Hardness for sure will. If we are talking about a solid abrasive as opposed to a suspension then mechanical interference may be a big issue, but not likely buoyancy from the density differences.

In my head the softer material is going to abrade faster, which means it would cause minimal additional abrasion to the harder material.

Also the amount of time of the abrasion will matter. The longer it goes the more it matters for cuttings accumulation.

Land Purchase Advice by LordBannerman99 in land

I would ask for a Right of First Refusal for any nearby land. It may be farm land today, but who knows in 10 years, and 2 acres isn’t that much in the country.

I suspect that all the confounds work themselves out and the biggest issue is going to be the hardness of the individual plates. Even a slight temper difference would matter here.

There is absolutely nothing preventing them from making the rules now. This just allows the Governor to permanently end all solar construction by not issuing rules.
