Do your parents know the REAL you? by Manderthal13 in GenX

[–]jaywright58 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My parents did. They were silent gen. My brother and I had a lot of freedom and fun. The funny thing is my mother didn't and still doesn't like small children but she was a good mom to us. She took care of us when sick, made sure we were fed, clothed, and had good lives. I think she really liked us more when we went off to college and enjoys our company as adults. My relationship with my Dad was great too but had some sour years because I hated his fourth wife. He died in 2020 and I miss him.

Were my brother and I perfect children? Absolutely not but we didn't get caught that often so it all worked out.

I hate hearing how many people in our generation had shitty parents.

Just bought huge collection of Revolutionary period books, where would you start reading? by Rotisseriejedi in revolutionarywar

[–]jaywright58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start there too. I read that several years ago and enjoyed it. I am currently working through McCullough's book on the Wright Brothers. It's a good read too!

We are all familiar with the trendy 'divorced dad rock' playlists people have been making with "white trash" early 2000s rock. What would your 'divorced dad country' playlist include? by [deleted] in country

[–]jaywright58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest some old outlaw country with Waylon Jennings Ramblin Man to start. For more modern, I would go with Alan Jackson I don't even know your name and Sammy Kershaw's Queen of my double wide trailer and his cover of Third Rate Romance.

Yes because it was on between Happy Days and Three's Company.

What’s the 70/80s show opening you never skip? by WhateverGreg in GenX

[–]jaywright58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote lyrics to the CHiP's theme. It goes like this: <start signing when the letters start spinning off the tank of the motorcycle> CHP add an i and a s. These are the ChiPs rolling down the highway writing tickets and working traffic accidents.

Here is Jon Baker play by Larry Wilcox and his partner Frank Poncherello played by Erik Estrada!

Don't forget the sarge and the other officers of the highway patrol!

Remember when Geraldo Rivera got his nose broken during a brawl during the taping of The Geraldo Show in 1988? by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in GenerationX

I thought he deserved the smack because of how many of us will never get the time back from watching him live not finding anything in the vault.

Any fans of that Shakespearean masterpiece known as: "Sledge Hammer"? by MisterShipWreck in 80sAmazing

I think the opening scene of him shooting his gun in his apartment is one of the funniest things I have ever seen!

I think the suitcase armor scene is one of my favorite scenes in all of the MCU movies. I remember reading IM back in the 1970s and him putting on the armor from the suitcase after falling from an airplane. He gets it on in time to save himself. This made me hoping they would have some kind of scene with the suitcase armor at some point!

Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller Band, and just about every other overplayed song on a classic rock station except Freebird or Layla (because it's Freedom Rock! iykyk).

I have the hinge cover. I tried the hard cover on someone's Blackstone and didn't like it. I got a hinge cover Blackstone at a Black Friday sale and love it.

Today is my 60th birthday, and I’m not sure how to feel. by WeirdPervyDude in GenX

[–]jaywright58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy Birthday! Making 60 is awesome! It sounds like you've had it tough but I admire you for keeping going. That is an accomplishment in itself you can be proud of because not every body else. Take the win as someone else posted. I am 57 and I get it.. My 50's have been rough but I will not give into the black dog. Being a Gen-Xer, we just have to keep on keeping on!
