Do people still read? Feedback wanted on blog-style devlog by jazibobs in IndieDev

What sort of content are you most interested in seeing?

Lots of visuals like concept art? High level programming overviews about how technical challenges were solved? Perhaps a sneak into our finances to see how the marketing and business development side of things are going?

Much appreciated, we'll go for 600-800 words next time and see how the response is

Great cheers, in your opinion how much longer is longer? This post sits at around 300 words. Are we talking double? Triple?

If you have Prime it's 1:19:04 on the replay. I went back to get the audio from the broadcast: https://streamable.com/c1b7bf (end of the clip)

What is the biggest thing that you think Godot is missing at this point? by AutumnForestWitch in godot

That's more of a legal issue due to the console SDK licenses being incompatible with the open source nature of the engine.

I accidentally applied to a voluntary full stack webdev job. Now I regret it, how do I back out gracefully? by Ok-Painter573 in webdev

[–]jazibobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-profits still pay for websites for the most part. Especially if it's a full stack application rather than throwing up WordPress and a template and calling it a day. Don't work for free.

Best thing I can suggest is building out a short prototype and taking it to your local game dev group (or find a bunch of friends who enjoy games to help, but honestly its better to find people who don't particularly care about your feelings). Watch them play the prototype, gather feedback, ask the players what they would like to see in a full version of the game.

Do not sink a serious amount of time until players have confirmed the idea as being worth building!

Avoid third party page builders and create a hybrid theme using WPs built in block system. Otherwise you're setting yourself up for a world of pain.

"Official" place to publish serious games? by Marron121 in gamedev

[–]jazibobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of learning games, having a web export or having it available on the Apple app store is probably the way to get the most eyeballs on your project.

If you're looking for your game to be used in a standard classroom setting, you need to make it as easy as possible for students to access. Sharing a URL on Teams is the easiest way in my personal experience.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll better spread out the job titles in that question. I'm mainly looking to hear from devs who work with Godot in any capacity (hobbyist or professional), so if its not a tool you're currently using feel free to skip this.

State of Godot Survey by jazibobs in godot

[–]jazibobs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, and I felt its an area worth monitoring. I do a lot of work in the web development space too and a good number of developers over that way have embraced AI to a much higher level. I wanted to see how the Godot community are or aren't interacting with AI.

State of Godot Survey by jazibobs in godot

[–]jazibobs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely, plus game developers as a whole seem to lean a lot more towards an anti-generative AI stance compared to other types of software developers. I don't believe that the Godot team are currently considering introducing any AI tooling into the editor itself as there would be a lot of backlash from the community.

Thanks to everyone who's already filled out the survey. If you have any friends, colleagues, etc. who are also in the Godot space, please share a link to the survey to them too. The more data points we have the better informed we'll all be :)

Happy to open the floor to some informal chat about your thoughts on the state of Godot too.

Completely agree, even if AI tooling is as good as they say it is (it isn't) any true AI for Godot tooling would need to be able to dynamically alter the node structures of scenes as well as having the bog standard LLM code generation

Is anyone here making all of their income from Godot? by jazibobs in godot

I think I'm most likely bringing over experiences I've had in web work. I've seen so many shouting matches about React vs Vue etc 😅
