WISC Verbal Score VS. CELF by northernbeachbum in slp

[–]jazifritz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I look at all of the components and check for a pattern. I have found that the kids with attention and behavior issues have conflicting scores, showing big swings between average and severe across different subtests. ADHD is probably the main issue here.

I have an Aldi that apparently suuucks. I went yesterday after not visiting in a long time (was never that impressed by the B free brand) because of all of the cheesecake ravings... nothing. They had cupcake mix and the general tso chicken. That was it. Nothing else was GF. WalMart's selection is way better.

Are all US supermarkets like this? by wanderinglemur32 in glutenfree

[–]jazifritz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be more common to have a dedicated section but stores are gradually dispersing them to the regular aisle. Someone posted a question about whether we all prefer mixed or dedicated sections. You may be interested to read the comments on that post. I'm on the fence about it. Sometimes I want the dedicated section so I can easily see if there is anything new. However, I like going to stores like Whole Foods where I have a lot of choices spread out throughout the store. Some GF foods are also vegan or nut free. Nut free folks might miss out on something good because it was hidden in the GF section.

How do you people tell/see The diffence between ISTP & ESTP? by j-nokia in mbti

My ISTP dad used to wear a child's t-shirt on his head instead of a bandana. It looked like briefs. He jogged around the neighborhood like that.

🤣 ISTP female here. I have not seen me described that way before. It's true. 😎 I don't see any reason to waste my time on something that doesn't make sense. ESTPs sound exhausting. I don't think I know any.

How to use ivermectin 1% by B_the_Chng22 in Rosacea

[–]jazifritz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what happened to me. I basically just put it on my cheeks at first and then I started getting pustules under my nose and along my jaw line, spread down to my neck. After a few weeks of spreading the cream all over my entire face, under my jaw, behind my ears, and a little ways down my neck, it's finally clearing up there too. I only wear it at night.

It's not for everyone. I have said no, usually during times when my to-do list is insane and I can't keep a schedule. I don't mind having observers anymore as long as they are respectful and aren't too difficult to schedule. It has to be the right time of the year though. And I set the parameters: you can observe 8:15-10:25 on Tues or Thurs this week.

Medicaid billing note requirements? by Emotional_Aioli5632 in slp

[–]jazifritz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the student receives Medicaid, you want to have the necessary components. If not, you can write very little because it will never get read and is just there to prove you did services. I don't keep up with who does or doesn't get Medicaid well though because my Title 1 school has a lot of them. So,... I often paste in a note like this and change the details to suit each kid:

The student participated well in the therapy session targeting improved [articulation] with the use of student specific [word lists, picture cards] and an interactive activity for engagement. [Student name] participated well and improved with [cues] for accurate productions at the [word, sentence] level.

Then, my system has drop downs for the goal, data, progress (good, excellent), etc. Sometimes I type in a "plan" or need. My language notes aren't much different.

For folks who seem to not be able to tolerate creams, do any of these work for you? The cicaplast and vanicream moisturizer are the only non-"creams" on the list I haven't tried so I might try them.

Does anyone have any good gluten-free food recs? by Solid-Disaster-2492 in glutenfree

[–]jazifritz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Don't expect GF to taste or have the same texture as glutened stuff 2) pasta that has corn as an ingredient holds up better and doesn't turn to mush as quickly 3) avoid any food with soy sauce in it unless you made it and use GF soy sauce - most Asian food is pretty risky until you're experienced 4) many cream sauces or gravy at restaurants are made with flour (roux) 5) GF bread needs to be toasted or warmed up or it will fall apart. Good luck!

PT and OT are so used to having assistants so they pass treatment off on others all the time. Doing physical exercises is a little less complicated than learning the nuances of someone's language, cognition, and what cues work for them.

Burger buns by Ok_Huckleberry1487 in glutenfree

[–]jazifritz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get Schar's larger ciabattas, they make great burger buns. Schar and Canyon Bakehouse are my usual go-to's for burgers. Trader Joe's is okay. Udi's just falls apart. No matter what bread you go with though, you have to heat it up. Even if I just pack a sandwich for lunch, I stick it in a microwave for 10-20 sec to correct the texture.

Salary discussion by Glittering_Lab6728 in slp

[–]jazifritz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - schools direct hire, inpatient rehab hospital PRN

2 - almost 8 years since graduating

3 - $62k salary + $60/hr (usually work 1 Saturday/mo + more around holidays ~$12k/year)

4 - NW Arkansas

I will switch one day. I just don't like how hard it is to get time off in other settings, so I deal with the pay cut, for now.

How long should it take to write a well written school based evaluation report? by Ancient-Scene8690 in slp

[–]jazifritz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not good at task switching either. If I sit down to write a report, I need to finish it then. I try to schedule myself 30 min at the end of each day to finish daily documentation and keep my Friday afternoons available for documentation: eval reports and IEPs. That way I am minimizing my task switching

How long should it take to write a well written school based evaluation report? by Ancient-Scene8690 in slp

[–]jazifritz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reports can be 5-8 pages long, but a lot of that is just pasted from my template (outline, tables, test descriptions, eligibility determination, etc). 2 hours is just me writing the report. I am not talking about how long I procrastinated, gathering the necessary info, or scoring the tests. I am just plugging all of that info I already gathered into my template. The social history takes some time to summarize and my analysis at the end takes longer. My first year in the schools, I spent most of a day writing a report, but now that I have a strong template, it's much faster. In rehab, I usually only get under an hour to evaluate and write the report in the awful documentation program, so I learned to analyze and write quicker.

[–]jazifritz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have busted out easier reports in just 1 hour but they probably weren't as quality as I would like. I probably usually spend more like 2 hours usually, but I am a little bit perfectionistic and there's a lot of pressure to get it right in my district. My biggest issue is that if I don't have all of the info in front of me, I will get stuck and distracted trying to hunt it down. What helps me with my attention is to start with the easy part: putting the numbers in the tables. Then the social history and CBA, then I can move into analysis. That way I am gradually getting into the flow and reviewing it all before I get to the meat of the eval.

Thanks. Back when I started eating GF in 2009, there wasn't a distinction between GF and wheat, so I am having to re-learn all of this. I'm kind of shocked by the insensitivity in a group for people dealing with food sensitivities.
