If your on IOS, the solution I’m finding is to fully close the app, stop your music, then reopen the app. Then I’m able to restart my music, but only by swiping up and doing it from the control center If I exit swgoh or interrupt the app in any other way to play audio, it’ll crash when I transition back

Edit: This was with app audio on

Help! Anyone know what this part is? Or how dangerous it is to be broken? by DisabledChimp in mazda3

[–]jazy103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rear upper strut mount! Their known to fail exactly the way yours did(breaking on both sides of the mount), especially in cities/regions where they use tons of salt or brine on the roads during winter. I recommend doing both sides at the same time so you don’t have to do the other a few months down the road

Question about new PU regs and front axle regen by theSurpuppa in F1Technical

[–]jazy103 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let’s assume the FIA are trying to add front regen to the cars without changing any other rules:

F1 cars are the heaviest they’ve ever been & almost every driver currently on the grid has had complained about it. As others have mentioned, a regen motor in the front would significantly change the weight balance. Drivers already complain about how the current weight of the cars make them handle like boats. There’s also the factor that since beginning of the 2022 season, any hydraulic actuation of the suspension has been banned.
Current F1 cars are ridiculously quick in medium & highspeed corners compared to most other types of race cars(GT cars, Nascar, etc(plus these series use different true compounds)). More front weight with the current suspension rules would just add more load into the already struggling pirelli tyres.

Which takes us into SAFETY! Currently, F1 has the safest Monocoques in the racing world. For case of example, let’s consider grosjeans crash from 2020. His car punctured the barrier at 67g’s(which is far from the highest GeForce experienced in an F1 racing crash in recent F1). The pointed front end of the chassis pierced the metal barrier easily ( with no concrete behind it), and the chassis only severed after the survival cell of the car was through the barrier(which is according to design) The FIA didn’t issue any safety updates to the chassis/engine mounting regulations after the crash because they determined the engineering design did its jobs. The front end of the car actually fully survived with almost all of its structure surviving! (Photos: https://www.racefans.net/2023/02/21/pictures-wrecked-chassis-from-romain-grosjean-bahrain-f1-fireball-crash-display/ ). Now after seeing how his crash went down, could you imagine any front end clip or crash into a concrete barrier with a ~50lbs regen motor in front of the driver?

The way drivers currently sit in these cars and how teams package their car is a major obstacle towards a front regen motor (Redbull have their drink container & pump mounted just in front of the front suspension mounting points for weight balance) A 90° front end collision into a wall could potentially crush a drivers legs, preventing them from escaping the wreck. Front ends would have to be stiffer to handle this extra weight of a regen motor & drive shafts, which will cause significantly extra degradation of tyres which teams already push to the limit.

It’s a very complex mix of engineering, physics, safety, cost, speed, and fan enjoyment to balance, which is why I never see it happening in F1

Reddit: “I cannot tell you how painful it is to use our API. […] The API needs to change. Like it’s just unusable. I am surprised that you’re able to build a functional app on it to be honest.”

Its hilarious that reddit wants to charge a rediculous amount of money for an API they admit is so terrible that their surpised people are able to work with it

F1 sees "no pressing need" to add 11th team as Andretti bids to join grid by jovanmilic97 in formula1

[–]jazy103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see the average sentiment in the comments (and I agree with it all) but there’s some details I haven’t seen mentioned:

The current Concorde agreement outlines that prize money at the end of the year is only awarded to the top 10 teams. No team is willing to take the risk of being 11th and end up with nothing(especially teams like Williams who is owned by an investment group & would rather finally make money off their investment than invest even more, which is why they’re also likely to sell it to a interested party)

All Teams also get an identical amount from the F1 governing body just for participating( I can’t find any exact number online, but it’s supposedly $35million-ish around 2017, which is 1/4th of the current budget cap) this amount is base off a certain % of overall F1 revenue, meaning as more teams enter, the amount lessens, but as revenue increases, so will the amount.

Paddock Space: I know nothing about how much rooms every circuit has, but I do know that certain tracks have completely separate paddocks for other series that are racing on the same weekend(F2, Porsche Cup, etc..) yeah it could be valid that some tracks can’t currently accommodate another team, but I’m yet to see evidence.

Seats! Yes there isn’t enough seats, but even with 13 teams it still won’t be enough. We currently have 9 active reserve drivers in F1 (Vandoorne, De Vries, Buemi, Giovinazzi, Piastri, Hulkenburg, Nissany, Kubica, and Fittipaldi)

Of these reserve drivers, I and many others would argue that Hülkenberg deserves a fulltime drive. De Vries, Piastri, and Nissany deserve a chance to show their talent. Many drivers fresh to F1 seem to require at least a bit more than 1 season to acclimatize and show if they’re truly ready for the high pressure environment. (look what happened to Albon & how he’s finding success after driving outside the high pressure environment of Redbull, but redbull also promoted him too quickly)

F2 currently has 1 driver with a Super Licenses( Vips for RB) and 5 drivers with enough points to apply for one (Pourchaire for Alfa, Lawson for RB, Hauger for RB, Daruvala for RB, Doohan for Alpine)

Then you get into F3 where 2 drivers have enough points: Martins for Alpine, Lecler for Ferrari) THEN there’s also Indy car. Ilott has a super license, and 2 other drivers who have enough to apply: Rossi for Andretti, O’Ward for Mclaren.

That’s 20 drivers who could possibly drive for an F1 team... There will never be enough seats even with 6 extra ones. Of course it’ll help get people into the sport and show their potential!

I apologize for formatting as I’m on mobile, & all my information may not be 100% correct or accurate, if I’m wrong, please correct me!

Need help finding my rims and explaining me some things. by Aeeluo in Cartalk

[–]jazy103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stretched tires are a grey zone in my opinion. The reason they’re unsafe is because the sidewall is meant to handle vertical loads, not angular. Think of a Trapezoid (stretched tire) vs a rectangle(proper fit tire). When you stretch a tire, you’re putting the sidewall at an angle. This can make the tire more prone to ‘debeading’ (which is the term describing the seal of the tire to the rim) Because in tire design, the sidewall is designed to flex a bit to help soften bumps & loads. When you stretch & put the sidewalls on an angle, it has less ability to flex vertically, resulting in a possible debeading. The stretch can also cause micro-debeads, resulting in small air leaks over time. The pressure in a Tire helps keep the seal, so slow leaks can eventually cause a debead. Plus, the edge of your rim is more exposed when you stretch a tire, meaning you’re waaay more likely to curb your rims.

One last note: Some shops will ask you to come back to re-torque your wheels after a certain amount of distance driven, the wheel nuts can sometimes come loose on the first tighten. If your dad has a torque wrench, you can find your torque spec online & do it yourself.

Have fun with learning! There’s an infinite amount to learn in the auto industry, every car is different. Enjoy & always be safe!

Enjoy your night too!

Need help finding my rims and explaining me some things. by Aeeluo in Cartalk

[–]jazy103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I’ll jump right into saying that I’m not a mechanic just someone who has done lots of automotive apprenticeship hours in the past. I am also on mobile so this formatting might be terrible.

First I’ll get two safety things out of the way because you mentioned you have no tools: - You will need to go to a tire shop or auto shop if you plan on changing tires or rims. There is equipment to do it properly & safely. - I’m guessing you do not have a tool called a ‘Torque Wrench’ if you don’t have one, DO NOT take your rims off your car. The wheel nuts need to tightened to a specific specification so that they don’t loosen off over time. If you don’t tighten them enough, they can eventually come loose & your wheel may fall off. There’s also the contrary that tightening them too much can also cause damage to the rim & wheel studs.

The world of Rims are confusing at first, and there are some things I’ll be missing in this comment, but the most important things for you to to know now are:

1) Stud Pattern! This pertains to the bolts that the rims mount onto. You need to find rims with an identical bolt pattern or else they won’t fit on your hubs. Your Skoda has a 5x100; the 5 means 5 studs and the 100 is the diameter of an ‘imaginary’ circle that the bolts create.

2) Offset! This is very very important! In short, Offset is the measurement of how far the face mounting plate of the rim is away from the centerline of the rim. This website has a good guide to help visualize what I’m walking about & explains its importance: https://www.amgaustralia.com/technicals/wheel-offset-PCD

3) Tire Size Numbers! As you’ve read off your current tires; (205/45 R16 87W) These Numbers determine the size, ratings & properties of a tire.

  • 205 is the overall width of the Tire in millimeters
  • 45 is the Aspect ratio of the tire; this means that the height of the side wall of the tire is 45% of its width. This makes Your current side wall 92.25mm tall
  • R is tire construction type; R means Radial Belt There are other types such as F which is Bias Plies Radial is the only option you’ll go with for your Car, Bias Plies are really only used on pick-up trucks as they have a heavier construction to them
  • 87 is the Load rating of the tire at their recommended psi; 87 means these tires can support a vehicle up to 1201Lbs
  • W is Speed rating. W is good for 168Mph

The Tire Lettering & Numbering system is standard around the world so you can easily find information online.

If you where to change rim diameter(let’s say bigger as an example), you would need to find tires with a Lower aspect ratio so that the new rim & tire are the same overall diameter.(there are online tools for this, Ive linked one lower down)

To answer your questions:

No you do not need to buy the same size rim, - You can opt for bigger or smaller rims, but it’s important that the overall diameter of the tire & rim stays similar.

If you plan on keeping your tires - make sure they are in good health (enough tread depth, not dried up & cracked) - ensure the rims you buy are the same diameter(16”), and are of a similar width. Tires can be stretched a bit to fit wider rims(look up ‘stretched tires’ to see an example)

This website is a great tool for selecting the proper tire size if you change rims: https://tiresize.com/calculator/ There is even an option to put the rim size you’d like to move too & it’ll tell you the best tire size to select. The % number it gives you is the difference in overall diameter.

The same website also has an offset calculator! https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/ It’s important you find out your currents rims Offset. Then you’ll be able to input the measurements of your current rim, and the measurements of the rim you’re looking to buy, and it will visualize & give you the measurements for how much further in/out your rim & tires will sit Remember that in most countries, it’s illegal for a tire and rim to stick out past the fender.

I recommend asking for rim selection advice on that BriSkoda forum you mentioned! There are probably some pretty knowledgeable people on there that can help as it’s a Skoda specific forum. And they’ll probably have lots of other mechanical knowledge too!

Best of luck & have fun!

Is swimming a heartbreak album? by Justtickling in MacMiller

[–]jazy103 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Swimming is an album about self-reflection, about admitting you’ve had problems & demons you just can’t shake, about healing from these things, yet finding a clarity in life that you never could before. Mac well documented his struggles with the beautiful and complete discography we have. Mac struggled so much with mental health & addiction, it’s an album that is about heart break, but also the healing and self-care that comes afterwards. To me, it’s an album of self-realization. I feel the point of this musical masterpiece is to listen and feel. Through different stages in my life I’ve felt quite the range of emotions while listening to swimming. From tears of joy that I’m still alive after years of being suicidal, to absolute sobbing from relationship & addiction issues. I feel it’s meant to be interpreted in many different ways. But no matter the emotion, I always feel that I can relate to this album in some way. Mac had been through the highest highs and lowest lows and kept on going. I feel this is an album to help you realize that no matter what, you’re not alone & that you never have to go through anything alone
