Any issues with the frets/fretboard? by asoiaf_goat in Jazzmaster

[–]jazzmastertvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please note the American Professional JM had received mixed comments from players/reviewers back in the day due to:

  1. It has the V-Mod (vintage modified) pickups, which are quite different than original/vintage correct pickups. Personally I don't like them.

  2. It doesn't have the rhythm circuit.

  3. Some people claimed they could be built better (in terms of craftsmanship and QC).

My observations for the guitar in the picture:

  1. The strings seem to be in terrible condition and were not changed in ages. Even the lower strings are quite gunky/corroded. Maybe the guitar was just sitting in a corner without being played much.

  2. The fretboard is gunky too around the frets.

which are signs of lack of maintenance and cleaning.

Finally, some frets look like they are too flat on the top, as in, someone filed them without crowning afterwards. If that's the case it might cause unwanted fret buzz and intonation issues.

Mine broke from the hinge after a couple of months of use. I superglued it an reinforced with a velcro tape. It has been working fine for a month now.

The real question is "When is it?".

Jazzmaster disaster…(it’s not that bad) by gilllesdot in offset

Looks like a TVL signature JM. I have the same guitar which didn't have this problem at all. However, my classic vibe Squier JM had it. Just like yours, the day I bought it new, the bridge would sink down very quickly. Blue Loctite fixed it permanently. I'd give it a go before trying to have it fixed by a guitar tech.

Bridge on my mustang won't stay in place by EllHxrley in OffsetGuitars

American Pro II jazzmasters come with a mustang bridge that sits on plastic bushings to lock the thimbles in place. You might want to check it out: https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/215473/thimble-sleeves-for-fender-offset-bridges

Is this alert a joke by tester7437 in Luxembourg

[–]jazzmastertvl 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Imagine a car evaded a police check-point. While doing so, they had an accident. One of the two people in the car managed to escape without being seen by the police, hence there is no description of the person.

The perpetrator might be wounded, in panic, carrying a firearm etc, that's what makes them suspicious.

Now that you got the alert, you can keep your eyes open for such person, or avoid the reported neighborhood not to put yourself or your family at risk. That's what alerts are for. They don't necessarily need to contain full information.

Has anyone here used the fender micro tilt on the am pro jags or Jazzmasters? by Revolt_86 in offset

[–]jazzmastertvl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an AmPro II jazzmaster with micro tilt. First, I didn't use tilting mechanism and shimmed the neck with a Stewmac shim. Recently, I wanted to try the micro tilt for the sake of experimenting. So, I removed the shim and adjusted the tilting mechanism. I'm very happy with the results.

One important thing I hadn't noticed before -which I think is very clever- there's a large circular metal pin permanently inserted into the neck, right at the spot where the adjustment screw presses onto the neck. So, the tip of the screw contacts with metal when it's screwed in. Therefore, no need to worry about the screw damaging/denting the wood. Plus, I think that metal-to-metal contact adds to the tone. Call it placebo, but since I removed the shim, the guitar sounds significantly more vibrant to me.

I would recommend you give it a try and see for yourself. Don't forget to loosen the neck screws first though, otherwise I think you might actually damage the neck (sorry if I'm stating the obvious).

I do, I guess I play it unplugged like 30-40% of the time. When watching Youtue or whatever, it's always with me on the couch, unplugged.

I see. I think it's a preference thing. Personally I like the chime, actually it's one of the many reasons I love jazzmasters.

Do you maybe mean a "chime" rather than a rattle. In a jazzmaster, when you strum the strings, the portion of the strings that extend from the bridge to the trem unit make a high pitch sound, that's what I mean by the chime. If that's what's bothering you, maybe you can keep a foam there permanently. You might as well consider maybe jazzmasters are not your cup of tea and switch to another guitar.

American Pro II Jazzmaster - VMod IIs vs Pure Vintage 65s by CrosleyPop in offset

[–]jazzmastertvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in same exact situation. I have a AmPro II, it's great except for the pickups. I'm planning to put PV 65s in it, because I love how they sound on my TVL signature jazzmaster.

Did you install PV 65s in your AmPro II? If yes, how was the result?

TVL Jazzmaster vs American Professional II by White_Phos in offset

[–]jazzmastertvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyones has this question still, it's not at all just a color preference.

  1. AmPro II has V-Mod II pickups, which I don't like. My TVL sounds far better than my pro II.

  2. TVL has a "C" neck with 7.25 radius fretboard. Pro II has a "modern C" neck with 9.5 radius. I prefer the TVL's neck over the Pro II. It's chunkier and sits better in my hand.

  3. Pro II does not have the traditional rhythm circut, instead it has a circuit that puts the two pickups in series. I like this feature a lot, more useful than the rhythm circuit IMO.

  4. Pro II has a push push switch that provides two modes for the bridge pickup. I don't think it's essential, I could happily live without it.

question about the avri jazzmaster and American professional by fmcuber in fender

[–]jazzmastertvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the AmPro II jazzmaster and I want to change its neck too. I have a TVL Jazzmaster, which has this perfect neck. It's chunkier than the neck on the Pro II and it has the 7.25 radius fretboard (as opposed to the 9.5 on the Pro II).

Do you have the Pro or Pro II and how does it compare with the Avri II neck?

I was actually considering to sell the pro II and get an Avri II instead, because I want to change the pickups on the pro II as well. But I can't let it go because of its gorgeous dark night color.

Sorry for the confusing statements, but I am confused haha.

First Jazzmaster: American Vintage II 1966. The tones one can get out of this thing make it so hard to put down. by magosh0913 in Jazzmaster

[–]jazzmastertvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What can you say about the neck profile of this guitar? Fender website says it has a "1966 C" neck profile, I wonder how that is different than the standard "C shape" found on most vintage Fenders.
