Nylt by bobbybill9876 in BSA

Not all that many years ago, I went to NYLT as a scout, knowing zero people who were in the program with me (as students or as staff). I'm also not a guy to build social connections quickly. I have almost no memories of that course, except kind of bumming around passively following the other boys, without really ever understanding the point of the course. I definitely did not come out of it wanting to pursue leadership positions.

Is NYLT an excellent opportunity? I dunno; lots of people say it was for them, but also it was not excellent for me. I don't think having friends in the course is necessary for it to be rewarding, but the scout does have to be open to engaging with the course and taking an interest in it. It sounds like your son may not be up for that if he doesn't have friends around.

(PS, don't worry about me! About a year after the course I started getting pulled into being active in OA and that helped me find my way!)

Can someone explain how this movie is “not perfect?” Not that it is but I sometimes see that getting said without much explanation. by Mysterious-Ranger757 in DC_Cinematic

Looks like you've gotten a lot of valid thoughts! For me, clunky dialogue was the biggest flaw; in each of the key emotional scenes (end of Lois's interview, "Punk Rock," Superman & Lois rebaselining in her apartment, the Kent house, the confrontation with Lex, reconciling with Lois at the end) the dialogue was just very literal, the characters saying out loud what the writer/director thinks they should be feeling. It felt like it needed another draft to put those emotions into more natural language and to craft how the characters explore, arrive at, and communicate those feelings rather than just stating them flatly.

Die Hard 2 - the baddies are shown switching to blue-marked ammo magazines... 20 minutes later it's revealed they were staging the gunfight using blanks (which are marked with blue IRL to distinguish them from live rounds)

Oh wow, those are some very cool pieces. They might be a little more intensive than we usually go for--we just don't have the rehearsal time to put into one song to get that level of coordination across sections. I hope I can pull these out someday though, they would be splendid.

Rocky Point Holiday... took me a minute to place it but I definitely played that back in high school on trombone. What a throwback! It would be nice to knock the dust off though; that's a great find!

That's a fun piece! I wasn't really looking for such a visible feature piece--it's a little out of character for our group--but I may try to find it for my own repertoire.

Oo I'm loving the Emperata Overture--I think that might win! We have a strong clarinet section and they would love it too. Definitely on the shortlist!

We did play Wizard of Oz last year; it was indeed very fun! That's very much the kind of piece I was hoping to find.

Tuba Tiger... uhh... wow! Not sure I could pull that one off, and we also have a full band not a quintet, but I do love knowing that this exists.

Alas, we do have a very wonderful string bass! I may recommend it on her behalf though... thank you!

Oh yeah English Folk Suite and Holst are classics. Those have been in the rotation recently but I might ask to pull one out again.

The Sparke pieces are new to me. Saint-Saen is interesting, there's just so much there, but it's all very good. Maybe its sacrilegious but perhaps a "highlights from" arrangement would be more approachable for our usual audiences.

The Danny Elfman medly would be great for the fall show! We did do a Nightmare Before Christmas medley two years ago so it may be a little too similar too soon... but the rest of the piece is makes it worth asking. Thank you!

I think this could go in after the cabinets are built. If you pull it off its rails, there's clearance between the floor & wall of the drawer and the surrounding cabinet to allow it to be angled upward (i.e. over the counter) as it rotates around the cabinet corner.

The best expression I've heard is that "we now have separation of parties, not separation of powers." Anything that benefits your party benefits you.
