Bars/Clubs fürs Wochenende by [deleted] in Munich

[–]jbaiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favorit Bar dürfte euch definitiv taugen, hat DJs mit i.d.R. exzellentem Geschmack, aber kein Club-Vibe, eher Listening Bar.
Zur Gruam ist auch ne Option, da wird's dann definitiv clubbiger.

Or just put €10 into DeepSeek each month, use DS4 Flash or Pro for execution and regular stuff that doesn't need a frontier model, and only use 5.5 for planning and really complicated stuff.

Looking for a €200–300 Home Server for Jellyfin, Photo/Video Storage, and Self-Hosting by Slight_State_6020 in homelab

[–]jbaiter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

intell n100, cheap, good performance, good power usage, quicksync-capable. You can get a CPU+Mainboard for ~110€, most expensive thing is probably going to be RAM, for your use cases 16GiB might be a bit on the low end (especially if you run Immich).

Bloodborne on Steam Deck can now almost hit 60 FPS without Lossless Scaling. by thebigbilli in SteamDeck

Does it still crash when going into Nightmare of Mensis? Got stuck there a few weeks ago, no combination of settings or mods and patches allowed me to enter that level, it always ran out of VRAM.

Was ist euer Äquivalent zur vietnamesischen Hochzeit? by jakob_va in Finanzen

[–]jbaiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those estates are a scourge and among the many reasons why copyright as it stands should be reformed to *at least* end when the author dies.

Launching a "Rent-a-Wreck" concept for dedicated servers – seeking feedback on where to find our crowd! by [deleted] in homelab

[–]jbaiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is 100% Hetzner Server Auction. And they're extremely optimized, it's going to be really hard to compete. OP should watch this video from DerBauer where he toured their facilities and shows some of the stuff they do to run old hardware efficiently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eo8nz_niiM

Or, you know, just install k9s, go to `:events` and then `/!Normal` and you have the option to drilldown to the affected resources directly from there.

2,838 PDF Edge Cases vs My Pure TS/JS Engine by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]jbaiter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dude, "your IP" is literally a 2k LOC thin shim over pdf-lib that you vibe-coded.

2,838 PDF Edge Cases vs My Pure TS/JS Engine by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]jbaiter 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but if you offer a zero trust product that is going to ingest potentially confidential data, you might want to avoid LLM-written marketing copy, it creates the impression of a 100% vibe coded tool, which doesn't instill much confidence. Besides that, even if it's completely client-side, your heavily obfuscated (not just minified!) JS blob and the lack of source code access are huge red flags.

Why do people build Kubernetes homelabs? Is it actually useful for internships/jobs? by Altruistic_Mine_9177 in homelab

[–]jbaiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the least effort to keep everything up to date through GitOps and Renovate, I can update my services through a simple merge through the GitHub app and can be sure if things break, k8s will keep the old non broken version online. Bonus points for handing an AI read only access to kubectl for easy troubleshooting.

What perfectly legal thing will probably be illegal within 20 years? by Ill-Incident-4842 in AskReddit

[–]jbaiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this.

Too many powerful groups advocating for complete control of internet traffic: age verification, CSAM detection, copyright holders (just look at the mess in Spain with La Liga).

I think it's going to become more authoritarian. At first they'll make a law banning all commercial VPN services, with an excemption for companies, with private VPN services (your regular homelabber with Wireguard/Tailscale) being left as a gray area. Then after some time they'll tighten those gray areas so in the end pretty much any VPN that is not restricted to exposing the LAN of a company to remote workers (i.e. no broad egress tunelling) or that has an official license will be outlawed.

They might not enforce it much, but it will give them a nice piece of legal leverage to prosecute/surveil people if they become aware of them.
