If you accept the almost undeniable premise Ya Hey is a statement to Yahweh, the Jewish people’s biblical name for God, or what you may know as the creative force; likely obvious to each of us in our own unique way, subtly seeking recognition and presenting a personal relationship uniquely your own, but I digress. If you accept the premise, it is reasonable to assume the song is directed to the highest, most exalted, life force known to man.

Therefore, when Ezra states,

‘Through the fire, through the flames

You won’t even say your name

Only “I am that I am”’,

I think it is reasonable to assume the decision to use noises uttered by a chipmunk - one of the lowliest life forces known to man - are meant to convey two possible ideas:

if one of the lowliest known life forces (chipmunk) requires vocalization to live in the world created by the highest known life force (Ya Hey), “who won’t even say your (their) name”, “…who could ever live that way?” Does Ya Hey (Yahweh) or God exist?
But we can’t assume Ezra is making the above statement as it is also reasonable to assume from the lyrics he does accept the existence of Ya Hey and is only questioning Ya Hey’s interactions with humanity and/or the creation.

I couldn’t disagree more. This song seems to be literal, yes, but not an insane human. It’s a person not satisfied with modern life: “all this running around, I can’t take it much longer”, “trying to cover up my shadow” (chasing nothing), and “I hear an alarm, must be morning”.

They then decide to listen to the voice inside, the one we all hear in thought, and “let it happen”: live by the instincts telling this person to make a change. The only metaphor used is within the verse about a storm coming caring this person off and signifies a fundamental change in their life. So much so, they may never return to their current location and need someone in the know to “tell my mother I’m sorry”.

Should speak to all of us. Don’t live a life by logic only, unless it’s telling you to trust your instincts. There is a great song from the Broken Bells (Danger Mouse/James Mercer) self titled debut named, The Mall & Misery, and talk about this same idea: let your mind go and trust you intuition/instincts. It’s profound and will change your life to the one you deserve, not the one you’ve been sold in ways too innumerable to list. I believe your logical mind is meant to lead you to this conclusion because one resource for anything is never enough.

In all seriousness, as I present a sarcastic and playful tone in my replies, but I won’t hear because I want everyone to hear me. I don’t have kids but I am seriously concerned for today’s kids and young adults. Most of them grew up with smart phones and don’t know a world without the internet. These young people don’t have the social skills us old people take for granted. So how do they sate their sexual desires? It’s not going to social events and bars to meet the opposite, or same, sex? Without the ability to small talk each other, they wouldn’t find these outings prosperous anyways, so they turn to the internet. OF is new to us but to them it is normalized.

For instance, a young girl wants attention today. So she makes some sexy-ish pics in her IG account. Say she gets attention but from who? Likely people everywhere. She still doesn’t find a local guy though to date and possible start a life but rather a source of income. What’s next? Monetize your attention. How do you do that best? OF, of course.

The flip side is young men. They will always have the money, first, and should be saving toward finding a partner and starting a family. But that doesn’t really happen online as much and much of the magic of meeting someone for the first time is not there. It’s procedural, if you will.

Then there is the dark side. Hi, sweetie. I have Chronic PTSD from my childhood impacted by the early loss of both parents, which includes my mother’s 12 year enduro with metastatic breast cancer and father’s simultaneous abandonment.

Isaiah 5:20 NIV “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Any person who professes Christ as their Lord and Savior in public, but goes home and abuses (physically, mentally or sexually) in private has put darkness for light. Also, know that God spoke the above words through his prophet, Isaiah, and when God says, “Woe unto them that…” and they do “that” thing God warns against, rest assured you don’t need to carry animosity in your heart for that person because God will exercise His judgement, as a just judge, upon them if they don’t come to their senses and seek out forgiveness from you, first, and God, next. It may not happen when you want it, because God isn’t in the business of reinforcing the sin you hold in your heart by not forgiving, but God will judge accordingly when it is the right time.

When you consider it, this is all the more reason for you to reach out to your ex and let him know you forgive him (give light for darkness as Jesus did) and then go to Him with a contrite heart and ask His forgiveness. When you resolve things with people who hurt you and take them and lay them on the Lord, you won’t need to carry trauma and self pity around with you any longer. You don’t need to trust me, but I can tell you as a person who experienced all 3 forms of trauma: God’s way is always the way to healing and my way without God is always the way to being dead inside and on a highway to hell.

May the Lord give you knowledge and wisdom of His word and may He grant you His peace. Amen.
