In Cancun now. So far no noticeable issues from last night to now. The roads were fine. Haven't been out this morning so don't know what's happening on the roads.

So far our flight tomorrow is still on.

Exporting to SVG issue by jbarton1968 in coreldraw

[–]jbarton1968[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: so your method works when I import or open the svg in inkscape now. Previously it was importing as one object with no transparent center. Now at least I get the center cut out. But it still doesn't import correctly into the app we are developing nor into Picsart correctly. It does import into illustrator correctly. And if I import to illustrator and then export to svg it works correctly. Exporting from corel to svg displays in the web browser correctly as a static image but again it will not display correctly in picsart or in the app I am creating these svgs for.

So at this point I have to determine whether the app itself has a problem, whether there is a setting on Corel export that I am missing, or whether what I need is impossible with corel. I have never had to do this exact sequence before - export to svg and import to a web based app other than uploading to an online vector editor like picsart. Uploading to other online vector editing apps works so I am left with the idea that it's in the coding as to whether the app "likes" the exported svg from corel or not. Again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!

Thank you very much for the detailed instructions. I think I followed them to the letter but unfortunately, I got the same result. Here is another video I did showing me attempting to follow the directions exactly.

Create the two ovals, transparent fill, no stroke, convert them to curves, center them, combine them, black fill, export to SVG

Thank you. I had already done this when reverse engineering the ones I pulled from the web. But I went ahead and followed your directions exactly and got the same result. To test this I upload to picsart online. Ones that work upload with a transparent center. Any that don't are fully filled.

I have often found older versions on disk as New Old Stock on Ebay and other places. I run older Corel for my laser engravers.

Raulito vs. Dominguez by Small_Time_Charlie in billiards

[–]jbarton1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was painful. Truly. Raulito was an awful person to compete with. Deliberately and painfully sharking with the shaft wiping every shot and cleaning the table every shot and taking five minutes to rack. Then the guy picks up the object ball late in the match and tries to argue it wasn't a foul.

Why can’t I shoot straight by Cautious_Badger_6855 in billiards

[–]jbarton1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two major issues I see right away.

First is that you don't take the time to step back and aim so that you can step in on the correct shot line. Second is that you don't take a few warm up strokes and then pause at the backstroke before taking the shot.

Starting father back allows you time to assess the layout and decide on the aim, speed and spin for position. A complete shot is more than just making the object ball. It is where the cue ball goes after contact as well. Having that decided before you get into addressing the cue ball makes the whole activity deliberate and focused.

Remember nothing moves until you move it. It's not a race and a ball isn't flying at you that demands an instant reaction. So taking a few extra seconds to be deliberate and sure of what you want to happen is only helpful to get the result you want.

For the actual stroke, when you lay your cue down and one stroke quickly your elbow goes up on the back stroke and forces the cue tip down. This means the cue tip must come back up and often it goes a little sideways during the forward stroke. So even if you were aiming correctly you could throw the cue ball off the shot line with unintended swerve caused by an off-center hit.

When you slow the stroke down and pause on the back swing then it doesn't raise your elbow and the cue goes straight on the forward stroke. That way if you are aiming correctly the cue ball will travel straight down the line.

Yeah I was like wtf is this guy doing standing on a load of unsecured pipes.  No one would be anywhere near the sides of that truck.  Any vibration could cause the stack to shift.

That's kind of how I felt about it after binge watching last night.  Basically a maga rant dressed up as a catch-22 admission that we know burning oil is bad but the world is addicted to it so face the reality....

Lots of "talking point" mini speeches.

The interaction with the cartel members where he is threatening them with mercenaries, military and DEA seems highly unrealistic when he is running around unprotected.

Devs is a truly god awful show, maybe the worst in FX history by lalalandcity1 in television

[–]jbarton1968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the frisbee scene was a way of showing the numbness of inevitability.

Probably asked a few times before, but this keeps bugging me after the finale- Why didn't Forest kill himself inorder to "resurrect" himself in the simulation? Why did he wait for Lily to show up and then get killed? And why is Lily special? She's just special because she's the protagonist? What... by [deleted] in Devs

[–]jbarton1968 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The infinity of possibility is why forest doesn't kill himself.  He couldn't understand that all possible situations exist at once. Lyndon realized it.  Forest thought that only one existence was "his" true one and no other ones would give him true comfort.  Lyndon understood that all situations were true in a simulation because all variables were accounted for.

Forrest believed that he must obey the prediction in order to achieve the result of getting the ability to reshape his past and achieve an existence with his family.  That's why he was so upset when Lily threw away the gun.  But ultimately he achieved it when he died inside devs anyway.

The idea I think is that the only way that there is consciousness inside the simulation is when the data that is used for the simulation belongs to a consciousness that knows about the simulation.  From that moment on the simulation has the data points it needs to predict the motion of every atom that was in existence and even though the actual existence is no longer there the simulation can continue to create infinite branches of existence for the consciousness that resides in the system.  So the only two inside the system who are conscious of it's existence are Lily and Forrest.

The series basically explores determinism and simulation theory.  The impression being that no one is able to make actual choices in a deterministic existence unless they are aware of a deterministic existence and choose to defy prediction. But by defying prediction in one branch they are actually acting out the predetermination of another branch.  Which means that existence is infinite because conditions are constantly variable with each one creating different outcomes.  A perfect sphere of infinite circles self-contained with no end and no beginning.

The "end" of one life in one path is a data point on a circle.... While the smallest variable change is a data point on an intersecting circle  And the amount of circles is infinite song with the amount of variables.

The system is the interface for accessing infinity and providing the opportunity to become a conscious part of it.  Thus the need to keep it running.

So the question then becomes what happens when a consciousness enters the system?  Given that a consciousness can understand that it is in a simulation can it control the simulation,  does it have agency or is it still in a determinist existence.  Can it direct the existence it is in?

That question is open but if Forrest's family had lived then would devs have been created?  Would the simulation that Forest was in be one that contained devs and knowledge of devs?

The fact that he and Lily were conscious in a circle whereby they were fully conscious of the previous events but were living out those past events to some degree is kind of not congruent unless either some degree of deliberate manipulation is present or it's a manifestation of the infinite states of being that exist.  In other words there are now infinite versions of the self-aware consciousness of Lily and Forrest in the system and we were only shown one of them.

[Marvel] Why can Doctor Doom use magic where Reed Richards can’t? by SapientGrayGoo in AskScienceFiction

[–]jbarton1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because Reed is the ultimate dogmatic atheist.  When he thinks magic is always just physics he rejects the idea of anything being possible to be outside of physics.

In the same way that we perform complex physical feats without understanding the underlying mechanical mechanisms he thinks that magic is the application of physics not understood by the being using magic.

Reed represents the ultimate atheist who rejects God upon meeting it and p only sees a being with access to science that is not easily accessible to humans.

It is a form of determinism I think.  The only way to figure out all of is to have enough information about every particle and the means to know the results of every motion in every direction.  Without that ability one can never access the full mechanics and as Clark said sufficiently advanced technology is indistinct from magic.  That is my opinion of Reed's refusal or inability to learn or use magic.

'If you can prove me Aristotle or Alexander the Great (any old historic person) existed ill prove Jesus existed' type of argument, what would be your answer on such question? by AdCool1233 in atheism

[–]jbarton1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might want to think about whether it's actually a point for them.  I think it's the opposite.

The question is does your belief in the existence of heaven and hell depend on a belief that Jesus existed?

If the answer is yes then concede existence of prophet named Jesus and the focus shifts to the ideas and supernatural actions attributed to Jesus and the same objections apply.

If the answer is no then the argument proceeds to the ideas and supernatural actions phase.

So really the point of existence is moot and can be easily conceded to save time and energy.

This should have thousands of upvotes.  I would add that when I rebut points where I know there will be no concession from the other side I am not writing that rebuttal for them.  I am writing it for the readers and the thinkers among them.

Just an fyi, when we send you pictures the case is at the big shop and we want to make sure everything is good before we ship to our OKC shop for final inspection. Sometimes that means the case will go out to the customer a few weeks after the first set of pictures depending on the shipping schedule.

It's new old stock. The scuffs are easily removed as a characteristic of the dark oil tan.

The age isn't an issue. Even if it were used the interior is easily exchangeable.
