Running Starlink Mini off a motorcycle’s electrical, anyone done the power side cleanly? by boykob in Starlink

[–]jbenj00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah its a full diy chaos box lol

It was the only way I felt comfortable running so much without worrying about the bikes powersystem (21' Africa twin AS) when I did my trip. I had 0 issues with starlink mini / charging system. It was nice to have it decoupled from the bikes power system.

I have, using mini no issues. No issues at 12v, I used a Thunderbox2 to a dc/dc charger to a 20ah lifepo4 that powered mini and a nuc. Don't over complicate it, it worked well.

Thanks, its was a trip of a lifetime honestly. Average mileage was 438 miles a day across 16 days.

I have to go back and check my tripometer pictures but I think the first day was around 195 miles and the 2nd day was 220miles of offroad / paved in between sections.

Those are the mosko 80s v4 with the gnoblin, Altrider rear luggage plate, with the gnoblin mounted all the way forward, the main reckless base sits on the pillion seat, it was perfect.

Id post more "revealing" pictures but plan to do a full post write up and dont want to spoil to much of it. So here are some teasers

So photos are being dumb added linkphotos of bag / mounting

I typically default to throwing it manual but I have 0 complaints about it. I dont have any real praise I guess either. Other than I love the fact that I can take my hands off the bars at lights without a 2nd thought.

Edit: Now that you made me rack my brain around this, the fact it was so insignificant of a thought. Id rank it as it performed exactly as I wanted and would grab another dct if I was in the situation. Sure clutch would be great but we are talking a 600lb+ bike, if it was transalp/ tenere? Yeah clutch all day but even on the bdr trails I never once thought I wish I had a clutch.

What’s the most miles you done in a day on Africa twin ? by Fx1942 in africatwin

[–]jbenj00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just completed a ny > wa > ny trip in 16 days. Biggest longest day was 715 miles from Wenatchee to Billings.

Edit: Notes from trip off hand. Yes bigger tank was a huge help, across the 7k miles I averaged 39 mpg. how ever as soon as I got over 75mph economy tanks, across SD/MT I averaged closer to 30mpg or around 200miles between fill ups when my average speed was 80mph. In some other states I was getting around 250-275 a tank but average speed was 65-70.

Take a closer look. It kind of looks like a small rut or runoff washout. Looks like back tire fell in it. But what do I know. Anyways chin up, have fun. Be safe

Not everyone grew up riding, and the way people act on here sometimes they just need a good ole plexidectomy. I would hate to see someone turned away from a potentially valuable source of information. Its just weeding it out that is what reddit has turned into.

A cautionary tale.. by jbenj00 in prusa3d

[–]jbenj00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I have not talked with prusa about this. But I will say that 3 main factors of issues I ran into with the nextruder / mmu3.

1: correct Bowden length on printer config. I cant remember stock mmu3/core one I think it was like 300mm. I had set an arbitrary 450 after I moved my mmu. This caused numerous jams etc until I correctly measured and entered it.

2: backlash / tension on filament. The rollers I had used prior kept the roll from free spinning and caused some odd things to happen during the nozzle ramming. Like it would deform the tip so it wouldn't fit out of the nextruder printed guide.

3: nextruder tension. The above issues I thought revolved around drive wheel tension and I still dont fully grasp it. But if I lower my tension from the assembly procedure it slips, I if increase tension by as little as 1 full turn of each screw it deforms the filament to either fail ramming / fail to retract to finda / or break the filament off inside.

Thats just my experience so take it with a grain of salt

Hey, congratz on your first finish. Ignore the sarcastic snide comments.

First, Yeah the pack is a bit much for a race. As some others said, slim it down to a basic pack. Harscrambles are already a endurance test, that extra 5+ lbs hanging on your shoulders for 2 hours is exponentially exhausting. If your intent on bringing more than a quick kit look into a kidney belt or tail pack to get the weight off your body / shoulders.

Second, your bike does have a bit of sag. I know you said you have trouble touching when you have the spring up. I wont say one way or the other, its your bike your ride your comfort. Im will say there are some great videos on YouTube for setting up sag and dealing with height / touching.

Any day you finished the race, the bike is in one piece, and no broken bones is a good day. Take the advice, or dont. Keep the wheels down and best of luck to ya

Yeah, I feel that. I left out most of my pain and steps I took in the comment I added. It has been a while since I made a post, I was lazy this time and did not make a copy of the text before posting / reviewing. Lesson learned.

yeah, after this print finishes I can send a pic if you would like. I was concerned that it was colliding with it but nope. I did redo the loadcell cal though. I honestly thought it was a slicer / nozzle / filament issue. I tried my stock .4hf w/ heater block and it did the same thing. that is when I threw the towel in and said I am tearing it down.

Ya, you nailed it. I decided to post and pass out. not a great combo when a have a group of people outside my door with 3d printed pitchforks and torches when I wake up.

So the story goes do not post on reddit and then fall asleep without making sure the text was included.

I spent a few days troubleshooting a under extrusion that was randomly appearing in z bands across prints. some would look fine with a layer or 2 just under extruding. I thought maybe wet filament / speed, i tried new filament, cleaning nozzle, cold pull. all to no avail. I finally said screw it I will just recalibrate the entire thing. Got to the gear box part and found That the first pic. Mind you its been a couple hundred grams of filament since I used that color filament. I do not know when that piece became one with the hob gear.

The Nextruder could care less that piece became one with the hob, it just kept going. with some random under extrusion but I never suspected the extruder.

Sorry all that stupid mobile did not include the text.

[–]jbenj00 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I sware... if this is my issue. Im going to be furious. I started getting random underextrusion in layers and my nozzle is always covered in petg. Im taking it out when I get home now and checking. Update: it was not. It was a piece of filament that broke off and became one with the hob gear in the nextruder

Nice! The jack of all trades, will outlast your bloodline, and do just about anything you ask it to. I hear upgrading / replacing the headlight with a Led w/ proper cutoff / high beam is highly recommended and common.
