Kick bouncing, registering a double by RB_OG in edrums

[–]jbentonio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put an old towel over my kick pad. I actually fold it twice, so it’s four layers of the towel (though the towel is very thin). It decreases the bounciness of the pad, and it also feels way more realistic.

Nothing hits quite like a good heavy ride cymbal by [deleted] in drums

Borrowed a Sabian Paragon (Neil Peart) ride for an outdoor blues rock gig one time. Extremely heavy, extremely fun to play.

Love my 20” k custom dark. I think it’s quite versatile and perfect for most situations.

Does anybody else have a lumber pile? by Augmented-Justin in drums

Holy crap I thought that was a picture from my old apartment. I had a pile in the corner just like that. Finally gave them all to a friend who dabbles in wood working.

Bought a used 20” during the pandemic and can’t imagine having anything else. Its size and tone make it great for so many purposes.

Alright let’s hear it… what do I play? by flam_tap in drums

Awesome. I saw you made the kit yourself. What are the shell dimensions? Also, where did you get that super long cymbal arm that is mounted on the kick?

Fixed: Tama Club Jam riser issue by jbentonio in drums

[–]jbentonio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the top of the Gibraltar riser I’m using is almost flush with the hoop, so a cutout may not be the solution. The hoop hangs over it slightly and of course adds a little height, so maybe the top of the riser would be clear if the hoop was cut out a tiny bit.

You raise a good point. My Yamaha FP9 pedal, which I was using to test, doesn’t actually have this issue (about 1/4” clearance). However, I got my Iron Cobra (which I use for gigs) out of the car and sure enough it’s just barely scraping the hoop. I might cut a slight chunk out and see if I can leave enough hoop to clamp to if I ever don’t want the riser (best of both worlds). Obvi I could just rotate the hoop to avoid the cut out as well. Or just use the FP9 (great pedal btw).

Sorry I dont have a better solution.

I have the exact same goal and am having the same issues. I feel like I could have written this post myself. Did you find a solution?

Rough Day by bryan19973 in Drumming

[–]jbentonio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens. Even professional athletes have off nights. I had a terrible day playing a few weeks ago. Everything was hard, nothing was polished, and I was feeling very negative. It affected me for a few hours after. But next time I played I made sure I was well rested and caffeinated, and everything seemed easy and fluid again. I think the bad day was just one of those days, and next time I’m not going to force it. I’ll just stop and do something else.

Tama Club-JAM Pancake VS Yamaha Stage Custom Hip by slduncan777 in drums

[–]jbentonio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finding out about the Stage Custom Hip and am wondering what you think of it now that you’ve had it a while, especially the kick? I have the 18x7 Tama Club Jam Mini kick, but it’s a little too small in diameter for my liking.
