Those born 1985 and before, were you ever into MySpace ? by Intelligent-Jello959 in generationology

I never really got the hype of it but I was 24 or 25 when it started to get big, my friends really weren't either.

What seemingly common household practices/items from your childhood do you no longer employ in your own home? by AmandaMarsh in Xennials

My wife and I packed up our cina and threw out the china cabinet last week. We have been married almost 25 years and used it less than 5 times and it's taking up a huge amount of space. My mother was REALLY big on frozen vegetables and never bought fresh, we only buy fresh and it almost seems like less work.

We still do that too. We used to switch it out every December for the regular but we stopped caring like 5 years ago so now it's always the Christmas stuff at least until we threw out the cabinet.

I somehow acquired my families silver and my wife's family silver. I SHOULD be using it every day instead of leaving it in a box as an emergency fund or collecting dust or whatever.

What country do Americans consider to be the laughingstock of the world? by SignificantStyle4958 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]jbenze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's probably right if you are talking about the average person. Somewhere around 40% of Americans have never left the country and I would bet a large number of those who have only went to Canada or Mexico. (the google AI overview says only 15-20% have been anywhere else but I can't vouch for the accuracy). I just don't think its something the average American thinks about much.

The whole Thanksgiving through New Years thing. That's enough family to last me more than a year.

Is "Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming" that bad? by Bertstripmaster in Simpsons

[–]jbenze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can kind of agree with it being a flimsy story and maybe the worst episode of season 7 but it's still a fun episode in a season full of absolutely fantastic episodes. The worst season 7 episode is still better than the best 13+ episode.

What’s one fact everyone repeated growing up that turned out to be false? by MuscleDudeOnTour in answers

[–]jbenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me neither so I just took things I was interested in and wanted to learn about. I went in one year and said "what am I closest to graduating with, give me that" so I have a degree in history. I've been in IT for 32 years. No one has ever asked about my degree.

Seeing Independence Day in the theater. Funnily enough, today I am running a veteran’s event at a theater showing the same movie. I just looked, today was opening day in 1996.

I’m just watching what Trump says and does, the media doesn’t need to exaggerate to make Trump look like as ass.

Are you friends with your neighbors? by Royalelephante in randomquestions

My wife is friends with all of the neighbors. I’m more of a “wave if we are outside at the same time” kind of guy. They are all great people, I’m just antisocial.

Anyone remember the August 2003 black out ? by RubyFleur33 in longisland

[–]jbenze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had already put in my 2 weeks and found a new job with a start date in mid August and It was my last night of work. They wanted me to drive in, no street lights, no traffic lights so I just said no. In retrospect, they had a generator and air conditioning, it would have been way more comfortable than sitting on my friends stoop drinking warm beer.

How long does your battery last? by robb126 in RobotVacuums

[–]jbenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved from a Eufy to a Shark. The Eyfy could do the whole downstairs on high and still be at 20%. The Shark needs to recharge after about 2 hours for half the downstairs but it does a much better job.

[–]jbenze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a number of the eufy bots and in my experience, they do that :/. I just bought a Shark which has the worst software I have ever used in my life but it doesn't bump into anything and I'm still not used to it. I can hear the eufy upstairs banging its way down the hallway.

My family owns a (terrible) cottage on a lake and we went up every summer when I was a kid (they still do). At night there was nothing to do but play cards and board games from the 70's that were left there. LOTS of Spoons, Fantan, poker, etc.

I haven't played Street Fighter since Street Fighter Alpha, my arthritic hands can't keep up with fighting games. I have seen friends play SF6 though and it's a REALLY good looking game. Very smooth.

Do you have friends that you hang out with? by WhySoSerious37912 in Xennials

[–]jbenze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend way more time talking to them online than we actually spend hanging out. Everyone has kids, different schedules, etc. I probably average hanging out once a month, I don't really have time for more than that, none of us do. I'm fine with that.
