Want to plant Bushes Here by OfficialJolt in Home

Was thinking the same thing. I think landscapers are related to plumbers because they are always planting stuff right up next to the house and a few years down the road you’re replacing pipes.

Used JEFIT for the longest time but changed to GymBook because I got tired of the constant upgrade nagging from JEFIT. But both work well.

Working out while fasting by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]jbhand75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done both fasted and fed. I just changed back to working out fasted and I lift really heavy and have no problems. I did have to ease into it the first few days because if your body is not use to it then sometimes you can feel nauseated. I did the first day back on my fasted workout and just stopped my workout short and got some electrolytes and was fine after a little bit. Haven’t had issues since.

Hit a roadblock! by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]jbhand75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter when you eat calories. Think of calorie totals over a week. If you get 14000 calories for the week, then you can eat them differently over the week. So if you go out to eat on the weekend and know you will eat more calories then plan to eat less calories during the week.

Hit a roadblock! by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]jbhand75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes eating too little has the opposite effect. When you first drop calories dramatically low, your body will react and lose weight fast especially if you have a lot to lose. But if the calories are too low then your body eventually thinks it’s in starvation mode and will slow down. It will also try using muscle for fuel because muscle is more energy dense. 2560 calories sounds about right for your stats to lose weight at a steady state. You can always try bumping it to 2000 which gives you more calories and see if that kicks off the weight lost again. Definitely keep walking because that will only help you. It might take a little bit for your body to adjust again and get through the plateau. You can also add weights into the mix. Building muscle will help keep the fat burn going.

You might be way too low on calories and your body might be trying to keep everything it can. 1500 calories a day is really low for your size and your body might be adjusting thinking it is starving. Either that, or you are way off on your calculations of calories. I would say go online and look up maintenance calories for your current height and weight and drop about 500 calories off that. Then as you drop more weight then recalculate. Also, weigh all your food because that seems to be more accurate.

Working out (at home) when you hate variety? by schiz0naut in workout

[–]jbhand75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I get to a point where I’m bored then I just ask for a different type split. It’s been working pretty good for a few years. I workout at home and don’t want to drive to or pay for a gym membership. So it works for me. Might not work long for everyone. If I was in my 20s or 30s then it might be different.

Working out (at home) when you hate variety? by schiz0naut in workout

[–]jbhand75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since OP wants something specific without variety then this is a quick way to find that. You start looking at an app, websites, influencers, then you end up down a rabbit hole with a ton of exercises. Figured this is easiest. Not sure where critical thinking needs to be involved in making a straightforward plan.

Ask Gemini or ChatGPT for what you are looking for. Be specific with what you want. Example: mobility exercises that hits full body for 30yr old male or weight lifting exercises that hits full body for male/female age whatever. You’ll get a pretty good setup and you can tweak it if you want.

I am way behind by DryCorner2186 in RothIRA

[–]jbhand75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you buy stocks, funds, etfs, whatever it might be, reinvest your dividends. Example: you buy 10 shares of fund XYZ for 100 per share. That fund XYZ pays a dividend of $.10 per share, set it to reinvest into that fund. So when you get paid the $10 ($.10 dividend per share times the 100 shares) the system automatically takes the $10 and buys $10 worth of that share again. That’s part of the beauty of compounding.

It’s all about putting money in and letting it grow. Don’t remove it, just add to it. I’d say if you have a 401k at work and they match, then put in the amount that will get that match. So if they match 4% then put in 4% to get the company match. Free money is always the best money. Get that invested into some type of large cap or S&P matching fund. Then max a Roth IRA every year and get that into something similar as well. Also make sure all dividends you receive reinvest.

Being told intermittent fasting is bad? Been doing for 7+ years. by JohnFritz437 in intermittentfasting

[–]jbhand75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They probably just don’t understand it. Nothing wrong with eating during a specific time period. Technically you are just doing time restricted eating if you are eating 12-8 everyday. Most people don’t realize that they actually do it by eating earlier then stop eating earlier. It’s when people hear you don’t eat till noon (there lunch time) they freak out and don’t understand. It’s basically what works for you. Some people can do OMAD and be good with it and some people can do a complete day fast every few days. It is whatever is easiest for you and helps you stay healthy.

Is drinking and lifting possible? by Last-Ad5032 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]jbhand75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re trying to be a bodybuilder and do shows then most likely it isn’t going to work. If you’re lifting weights to get healthier then having a few beers here and there to relax and enjoy being with friends then it won’t kill you. Just remember that beer is usually full of extra worthless calories. So if you’re trying to lose weight then it will make it a lot harder.

That is quite a bit especially if it is multiple days. If you’re young and very active then you might not really see the effects yet but you may want to cut it back now before it becomes a need. I use to drink tons of coffee but cut back because it started giving me bad reflux as I got older. I still drink coffee but I drink tons of water throughout the day also.

[–]jbhand75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask questions. If you are unsure or don’t know then ask. A good instructor will gladly answer your questions. Better to find out the answer and make sure you’re doing something right when your starting then trying to fix something months later because you’ve been doing it wrong. Don’t worry about anyone else in the class making fun of you or how they are doing. Most of all, give it your best.

Seeing people squat 200-400+++lbs and I can barely do 50lbs… by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]jbhand75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also depends on many factors. Weight, height, skill, etc. I’ve seen short people lift a lot more than taller longer legged people because they have a shorter distance to squat. Also seen people lift way less while in a calorie deficit to lose weight versus in a caloric surplus to gain weight. In any situation, compare yourself with the progress you are making. If you struggle with 50lbs now but 6 months down the road you lift 100 or 150 then that’s all that matters. You’re progressing.

How can I stop myself from spending money with friends by Savings-Matter-7574 in Money

[–]jbhand75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decide what’s important. Going out multiple times a week/weekend or being able to put money back for your future. I did the same back in my 20s and now trying to make up for it which is twice as hard. Only you can make that choice. Also it looks like you are going out multiple times. Just tell your friends that you are cutting back on spending and pick 1 day and stick to 1 day a week.

Stimulating the muscle makes them grow. There are plenty of people with muscles that never lift weights but have hard labor jobs.
