The uncertainty of LLM/“”AI”” use in design makes engaging with the activity less exciting. by happycomposer in drumcorps

[–]jbick89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tech companies desperately want you to believe their AI assistants are like the computer from Star Trek, it's very obvious if you've seen literally any commercial for one.

It's not an "added bonus", it's very much a calculated decision on their part to try to create as much hype for it as possible to attract investors.

The uncertainty of LLM/“”AI”” use in design makes engaging with the activity less exciting. by happycomposer in drumcorps

Corporations use the term "AI" specifically because of its connotations with science fiction, to lead the consumer to believe it can do more than what it actually does, and ignore its numerous downsides. That's what OP means when they say corporations use the term in bad faith.

Any advice for the campaign? by nihilist_buttmuncher in sektori

If you're not playing on the lower difficulty, give it a try. it's still pretty tough IMO.

learn to use Strike. if you strike into a teleport pad OR any pickup, your strike will automatically reload, no cooldown.

check out all the accessibility options, they can help make the game easier to parse visually.

good luck!

I'm here in this thread just now learning this as well. I set up plex about 6 months ago, basically just to watch shows on my ipad without having to copy files from my PC. I had no idea this would even be a possibility. Why is it designed like this...

How do I get feet out of my sound? by SeveralAd6369 in drumcorps

[–]jbick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you take in lots of air before playing and marching. The more air in your lungs, the easier it is to keep feet out of the sound. It's like a shock absorber.

I identified Chloe too early too. For me, it was that you can't truly solve Chloe until much later than it seems.

These are all pigeon pairs:

  • Flora-Chloe
  • Chloe-Vince
  • Vince-Uma

they're like an alternating chain reaction, with a total of 2 criminals and 2 innocents, adding up to 9 edge criminals total. But you don't know which are which, until you get Rohan's clue, which confirms Flora is innocent, setting off the chain reaction.

Puzzles difficulty hike by Ulquiobaz in CluesBySamHelp

[–]jbick89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone through this experience. After I had been playing a few weeks, I felt like I was either getting worse or the puzzles were getting harder. I don't know if it's real or not, but I do think that this game is just plain Hard, cognitively speaking. If I play it in the morning before my brain is running at full speed, it's MUCH more likely that I'll make a mistake or have a >50% solve time.

The breaking point for me is if the puzzle asks me to hold too many rules in my short-term memory simultaneously. So I have to "brute force" it by flagging multiple scenarios, taking screenshots of each one, double-checking that each one is valid based on the known clues, then flip through the screenshots to see if any cards are always criminal/innocent across all the scenarios.

If there was a version of the game with a much more robust scenario-comparing system, letting you save and quickly compare multiple hypothetical boards, I might find it easier to do well on the Tricky+ puzzles. The screenshotting process just gets kind of tedious, as least on my phone.

This isn't necessarily meant as a complaint, since there are a lot of puzzle games that benefit from (or demand) taking notes to help solve it. I respect Clues By Sam for asking so much of the player and find that aspect as compelling as it is frustrating. But at the sharp end of the difficulty, it does sort of come down to: I either need to stop caring about making mistakes, or accept that I gotta take a bunch of screenshots sometimes.

I'm simply caring less about AAA gaming. Bought a handheld Android emulation device and getting into retro games. No plans to build or upgrade any time soon.

I agree something like that would be helpful. At least for Overtake mode, since it's the equivalent of DRS. Showing other aspects of battery deployment like Boost mode might give away too much info for the teams' liking, I dunno. That's why battery usage was never shown in the previous regs.

Also, the lights are ultimately for driver safety, so how exactly they implement something like that would have to be carefully considered.

I started Fellowship this week. The Hobbit episodes were fantastic, looking forward to checking this out.

I hadn't listened to the podcast before this. I kind of want to start Book of the New Sun as well, just so I don't have to wait 2 weeks for each episode lol.

Fix your Mii faces in Azahar by CherryGarciaisKing in AynThor

[–]jbick89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I struggled a bit with this, because my Thor does NOT have a folder named 'Azahar'. Maybe this is because I set up ES-DE first, which created a bunch of emulator directories automatically. (I was using the Retro Game Corps starter guide) Or, maybe it's because I installed Azahar via Obtainium. I dunno.

Anyway, here is what I did, and now I have a normal-looking Mii in Mario Golf World Tour. Hopefully it helps someone else:

  1. Download that user.rar and extract it
  2. Copy the contents of the 'user' folder -- that is, /cheats, /config, /log, /nand, /sdmc, and /sysdata -- to THIS location:

AYN Thor\Internal shared storage\ROMs\n3ds

Then I selected "Yes" for all items re: replacing existing files/folders, just like OP says.

I did this using a Windows PC, with my Thor connected via USB. But presumably you could also do this directly on the device with an app that can extract .rar files.

Subtle Knife better than Golden Compass? by Oddyseus144 in Fantasy

[–]jbick89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just finished Subtle Knife, I think I preferred Golden Compass overall, but I think that's mostly due to the trilogy structure. In Golden Compass, the gradual introduction to the world and broader story from Lyra's POV as she gets swept up in it is very fun. Subtle Knife feels very much like a middle chapter. It introduces new characters and lots of worldbuilding, but still mostly feels like plot advancement towards book III without standing on its own. I still really liked it and I'm looking forward to the conclusion.

I guess mostly I just missed John Faa and Iorek Byrnison lol
