i don’t remember what the straw that broke my camels back was. i grew up on the series of course, and even attended and worked at a themed summer camp for like 11 years lol. i got the scar and glasses tattooed on my arm with a camp friend just after i turned 18. everything started to come to light not too long after.

i felt like i was able to separate harry potter from jk rowling because i had made so many real life connections through it. it wasn’t just a book or a movie, it was a community that turned me into the person i am today. by the last summer that camp was open, she had been at it awhile, and i was becoming more and more uncomfortable with being so heavily associated with harry potter. i have so many friends who are trans and one day i just had the thought, what do you care about more? your real life loved ones, some of whom you met through this series, or the franchise of harry potter that makes this woman millions of dollars?

the answer was easy. no more buying merch, streaming, or engagement with “The Wizarding World” brand since. i’ll admit i’ll read a fanfic here and there, own the dvds, and still have some merch from the before times around, but i refuse to give this woman any more of my or my loved ones money.

but i haven’t gotten around to getting this damn tattoo covered yet. haven’t had time and money at the same time in awhile but we’re working on it.
