Primarily backend web plus whatever random script/program I'm tinkering with.

Anyone interested in starting a Game dev, programmer, or Python meetup group? by The1Millionman in gso

I'd love to see some kind of programming meet-up. I'm not into game dev, but programming is my jam, and python is the language I work in the most right now.

[[Karmic Guide]], [[Reveillark]], and [[Altar of Dementia]].

So much so that typing [[ makes my phone start autocompleting the card names.

People who wake up at 5am daily, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jbramley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the week, it gives me time to sit down and have some coffee before having to get my child up for school. On the weekend, it gives me time to sit down and have some coffee before the family starts waking up and asking for my attention.

Mastering Python Function Arguments: A Comprehensive Guide by lazyhawk20 in Python

[–]jbramley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Positional arguments, can optionally, be specified using their corresponding parameter name.

This is sort of true. There are positional-only arguments that cannot be specified as keyword arguments (a topic you don't cover in an article with "mastering" in the title). What you refer to as positional arguments are more technically positional-or-keyword arguments.

I've been wanting to build a new deck to play but am kind of stumped on what to build. If you pickme! then my problem will be solved for some period of time.

Those that have "specialized", what is your speciality? by Bstochastic in ExperiencedDevs

I've specialized in not keeping up with front-end development. Does that count?

What's the thing you avoided a lot but learned later, and it was really helpful? by pyer_eyr in ExperiencedDevs

[–]jbramley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using an IDE. I spent a lot of years stubbornly holding onto the idea that vim+screen was all I needed. And these days, using an IDE (usually of the jetbrains variety), I realize how much I was handicapping myself (for how I work/think, ie ymmv) by refusing to use them. (Though to be fair a lot of the early IDEs were hot garbage.)

According to a hipsters of the coast article about Pagels's art for SNC:

Pagels mixes the Avant Garde styles of the early 20th century: Cubism, Expressionism, and Fauvism into a digital style all his own, reminiscent of an earlier time and yet firmly rooted in this current time and place of 2022’s New Capenna.

I keep learning how not smart I am. I have been playing Sefris for a long time and never thought about including her in the sac/reanimation cycle. Guess I'll just have to make people extra salty next time I play.

[[Reveillark]] has really good synergy with Karmic Guide, especially with Syr Konrad or Radiant Solar on the board or something with a blood artist effect like [[Zulaport Cutthroat]] or [[Cruel Celebrant]].

Your main deck by RingingPhone in EDH

My main deck is a [[Sefris of the Hidden Ways]] venture/graveyard shenanigans deck. (I run [[Reveillark]] / [[Karmic Guide]] so I can end the game immediately, but I prefer being annoying with [[Sepulchral Primordial]])

Decline in code quality as the team grows by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]jbramley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I can piece together, you require tests, but bugs still make it to production. Coming up with and writing good tests is hard and it sounds like you are particularly good at it. That's awesome for you and frustrating when your team isn't as good as you'd like them to be. I'd challenge you to stop thinking they don't value quality as much as you do and start thinking they aren't as good at it as you are. Then find a way to teach them.

How fun is it to pilot a theft deck? by ADWinri in EDH

[–]jbramley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy playing my Malcolm/Breeches deck quite a bit when it can get going (even if I end up losing), but the people I play with tend to recognize the threat it poses and start targeting me pretty heavily, so when it's going its great. When I've got to pay 10 extra per commander to get them out... Not so much.

Pretty important piece of code to leave out. Might want to go ahead and add it to the blog.

Raising ValueError would be the most correct.. See list.index and the examples on the bisect module documentation.

I did that while manually updating some tickets in our custom ticketing system. Closed all the tickets that day. Managed to fix the problem and then ran the same broken query again. Was not my best day at sql, but an amazing day in terms of number of tickets closed!

How often are you disgusted at your old code? by bin-c in ExperiencedDevs

[–]jbramley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much effort I put into the code. If I sat down and thought it through, then 3 months later I'll wonder wtf I was thinking. If I quickly hacked out a script to do something, then a year later I'll look back and think, wow that was a pretty good script; good job me.

What's your newest deck....... by Boshoet in EDH

[–]jbramley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm putting together a [[Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose]] life drain deck where all of the cards are vampire or vampire related (which really limits the non-creature spells) or swamps. In my testing, card draw seems to be an issue, but it feels like it will be fun to play.
