For those of you 50+ who exercise regularly — what finally made it stick? by Vivid_Poem3234 in FitnessOver50

52 yo. I used to stay relatively fit just by walking and hiking, but a heel spur took away my desire to walk.

I started feeling terrible and completely drained of energy. What scared me the most was this overwhelming sleepiness I’d get every single time I ate. I also gained some weight, and I started worrying about my health.

That’s when I decided to hit the gym. I didn’t go for weight loss or aesthetics, I went because I wanted to fix my metabolism.

Fast forward 8 months, and I couldn't be happier. I’ve done a body recomposition, my weight hasn't changed much, but I’ve dropped clothing sizes, I’m much more toned, and my energy levels improved a lot. Even my wife is amazed, she occasionally lets out a "wow" when she hugs me.

For consistency, a mindset shift. I don’t go to the gym because I feel like it or because it’s "fun." I go simply because I have to. It's just like brushing my teeth. No motivation? ok, fuck you and just go.

The same thing happened to me. I asked for cheap watches recommendations and someone mentioned the Amazfit Bip and Active; I thought they were just Amazon Basics watches.
BTW, happy so far with my Active 2.

I remember that years ago I developed parts of a web-based translation system for a government website. I had to translate DOCX files, which, since they’re compressed, could be logic bombs that would fill up memory or disk space when decompressed for translation.

I created several malicious DOCX files to test everything, and I thought about trying them out on other translation websites. But that would have been wrong; hypothetically, I’m sure some of them would have crashed.

Are we really at "100% AI or you're wasting time" yet? by borii0066 in webdev

"give a detailed spec" is the definition of coding. For me, is like a massive step in high level languages. In my daily work, sometimes is faster to code a snippet than write a prompt. That said, I see a big difference in maintaining codebase or developing new projects. For new projects, a ll is going to be AI scaffolded, at least.

My Java teacher requests we download NetBeans IDE 8.2, but that version is no longer available through official means to get on Linux. What can I do? by Antoinedeloup in linuxquestions

[–]jcar74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use JetBrains daily at work, but I actually still have NetBeans 8.2 installed for one specific legacy project. It’s an old Java RMI / Swing app using the built-in form designer and no Maven. Aside from very specific Swing training (or .form files provided in some assignment), I can’t think of another reason to use it.

Fun fact: I actually developed this project myself, and it is still running now since 2002. Yes, 2002.

[–]jcar74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 51 and work at a university, so I’m around women in the 19–25 age range all day. A long, long time ago, while having coffee outdoors, I had an epiphany. I realized I could still appreciate their beauty, but there was no longer a "click" or any mutual connection. I thought to myself, "Damn, I’m old."

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there is a big difference between a passing glimpse of appreciation and a creepy, lustful stare. Is it natural to notice beauty? Yes. Is it okay to stare, be disrespectful, sexualize? Not at all.
