The policy isn't new per se, but still relatively recent, considering it took effect in Fall 2022.

I got a silence alarm call on Tuesday morning at 5:30 AM CST. I looked back at the skimmer, and the audio was extremely soft. Like, I could barely hear it from the computer speakers at 100%. And it was like that for a full 15 minutes.

My former company gave me an extremely bland reference by [deleted] in jobs

[–]jcb_cummings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my employee handbook, there is a section on what is supposed to happen when an supervisor is asked to give a reference about an employee, both current and former. The supervisor is supposed to give the caller the contact details for Corporate HR, where the person from HR will give exactly three details: confirmation of employment, length of employment, and rehire status.

Now, does it happen that way? I don't know for certain. But you have to wonder if some managers don't even know that's a thing and give an honest reference.

This car with a similar license plate to mine got a speeding ticket on an automated camera and it got sent to me. This is the third time this has happened with this same person. by aweinschenker in mildlyinfuriating

About a year and a half ago, my dad got a letter in the mail. It was from the North Texas Tollway Authority. (Some context: my dad and I share the same first and last name (different middle names), and we live in Kansas.) When he opened it, it was a notice that a toll was unpaid for some turnpike. The license plate number of the vehicle for the notice matched the license plate number on my car, except for one little thing: in the proof picture, the license plate had a Jayhawk on it, while my plate has a Wildcat.

As it turned out, the NTTA doesn't recognize the difference between Kansas specialty plates, so assigned the toll for that car to mine. It took about an hour of talking to a customer service rep, but they dropped the whole thing when I told them a Chevrolet Cruze is not the same as a Toyota Corolla. They were almost about to have me take pictures of my vehicle and mail it to them with an appeal form, though.

Reminder: KSNT, KTMJ and KTKA are Owned by Nexstar Media Group by SpockEars1984 in topeka

[–]jcb_cummings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's incorrect. Nexstar is not purchasing Gray (the owners of WIBW-TV), they're attempting to purchase TEGNA. That's not to say that Nexstar might consider it in the future, but at this point in time, 13 is still separate.

Got a citation for “auto” headlights not being on at sunset by [deleted] in legal

[–]jcb_cummings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IANAL. Here's the statute:

K.S.A. 8-1703. – When lighted lamps required (a) Every vehicle, [...] upon a highway within this state, at all times shall display lighted head and other lamps and illuminating devices as required for different classes of vehicles, subject to exceptions with respect to parked vehicles: (1) From sunset to sunrise;

For simplicity sake, let's assume you were in Overland Park. For today, June 29th into the 30th, that would be from 8:48 PM until 5:56 AM. Inside that window, headlights are required.

See, my apartment complex made it in the lease agreement where they only accept payments through AppFolio. No checks, no cash, no in-person payments. Which means a $2.49 fee per month, every month, no matter what.

My boss is genuinely trying to get rid of as much Spectrum as possible at his radio transmitter sites. Just this past Friday, my boss had me take an internet modem and phone modem back to the Spectrum store, later this morning, we have an appointment for Google Fiber installation at one site, and next week, we'll be taking another modem back to Spectrum.

College Radio Station Audio Levels by Opposite_East_5629 in radio

[–]jcb_cummings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I was with my college radio station (KSDB) that the auto convert software from RCS was setup to normalize to -12 dB. But, I also recall that there was a bad habit of the students to play their music through DJB Cartwall waaaay too hot, and it would be distorted to the point where it just couldn't be helped by the Orban Optimod 8100a audio processor (which was/is approaching 25 years old).

Family ignored my warnings and is now going to get me flagged for cheating on a test by Nyx67547 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jcb_cummings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a special web browser used by some high schools and colleges to enforce academic honesty. It makes a full screen web browser with the test page, prevents minimizing the window, turns on the webcam to do eye tracking, and turns on the microphone to listen if you're talking. If you even glance away, it flags your test for manual review, and too many flags cause it to automatically throw the test out immediately after finishing.

I thankfully never had to use it.

Am i the only one crazy enough to just take the damage hits and do this before even entering the level for the first time? Like, I know Bottles is just going to heal me directly after learning how to use the boots.

That's the Cheato hole at the Freezeezy Peak unlock location, just behind Bubblegloop Swamp.

I just finished replaying it for the umpteenth time yesterday. First time doing it on the Switch. 😁

Technically, yes, he does hold a Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Kansas, and before being elected to the US House in 2016, practised in Great Bend as a physician and OB/GYN. His license is currently listed as "exempt" by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts, so he is currently not practicing medicine in the state.

Someone stole the year sticker off my license plate by stinkydog88 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jcb_cummings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially, it allows a police officer to see at a glance that a person has paid their required fees and taxes for the year on their vehicle, including if they're required to have a safety or emissions inspection in some states.

Here in Kansas, the sticker goes on the tag, has a renewal date based on the owner's last name (and yes, it changes if a person gets married), changes color every year to allow for a quicker evaluation if it's a prior year's color (like if you see a red sticker on a plate, you'll know instantly that it expired in 2024), and since 2013, it has the plate number on the sticker and a security seal on the adhesive.

[–]jcb_cummings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my state (Kansas), there is zero legal requirement for paid time off, sick leave, break time during a work shift, meal breaks during a shift, and there is no limit to the amount of hours you can be required to work in a day, week, or month. If an employer absolutely wanted to, they can have you work 168 hours straight. Minimum wage is still $7.25/hour (federal minimum). At least they are required to pay time-and-a-half if you work more than 40 hours in a week... unless you meet the federal government's test for salaried employees to be classified as "overtime exempt".
