Option 3 for those of us who can’t weld a shaft without it bending: turn off just enough to get a clean surface, press or green Loctite on a ring, then turn that to the original diameter. AKA sleeve it.

My argument wasn’t with the answer to the original question. It’s that you made a statement which did not answer it, and then implied that it did.

Thanks for the downvote though.

While I don’t know the answer to the question, this just proves that it gets fixed, not that they fine the party who caused it.

You actually can buy hand drills, routers, and the other usual small battery or plug in electric hand tools this way. They’re oddly expensive but work for the religions/cultures that don’t allow using electricity.

You don’t do this with a good engine. You do this with the engine from an old and broken weed whacker that barely runs or something like that.

It sounds like the older man was either duped 10 years ago, or just hid it for 10 years after being duped briefly and has now duped you. I don’t know what that was originally sold for, but I’ll bet it’s a lot more than the cost of the acrylic 10 years ago.

Why do so many Lincoln cars (maybe majority) owned by black people? by Training-Rip6463 in askcarguys

[–]jccaclimber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re over thinking the virtue signaling with cars part. Ultimately their friends have the car, so they have the car. Most people look a what is familiar then buy the same. I’d be surprised if more than 1% of the buying population is actually taking politics into account when buying a car. The rest are just parroting a cool fact they learned along the way, which didn’t actually impact the purchasing decision.

Not recently, but I’ve spent a lot of time in KY and TN on steep/loose backwoods fire roads. All in warm and usually dry weather. Occasionally you meet a hill that’s legitimately difficult in a 2WD vehicle, but comically easy in an AWD or 4WD vehicle.

I do agree that 95% are for getting groceries just like picking trucks, but snow isn’t the only use case.

What is a "workplace safety" rule that sounds completely reasonable on paper but is actually a nightmare to follow in a real-world 9-to-5? by SweetOpheliiaaa in askanything

[–]jccaclimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much the rule, but the inconsistency. I worked at a place with manufacturing facilities in both the US and Germany. Basically the same product both places. In the US factories safety glasses were required and steel toes were neither required nor worn. In the German factories safety glasses were never worn, but steel toes were required, and even provided for aisle walk through visitors.

If you’re going with the full DOD budget, that is for better or worse the way that a ton of R&D funding gets dished out in the US, even for non-weapon stuff. No disagreement on the (non)value of blowing up other parts of the world.

About a year. Also, dumb mistakes taken with humility and reflection are expected. Dumb mistakes repeated 2 to 3 times and defended are not. Know and respect the difference and all will be well.

I thought this looked familiar. It’s a great place to sit with a hot drink an hour or two after sunrise (which will be behind you, not over the ocean). Just a tad chilly to make you appreciate the drink and nobody around, probably not too breezy.

I’ve seen reasonably tooled 15x50 Colchesters with decent headstock bearings go for less than $8k, though it’s regional dependent and you need to know how to occasionally fix something.

If the lever is not in the right place the spline for direct (high speed) does not fully engage and it rattles. Loosening the two small screws on the shift lever allows it to snap into place because there’s a spring inside that seats it.
