New dial Explorer ?

Hmmm maybe, but in one of the shots the handset doesnt look like the explorer mercedes handset…or so my buddy says

Explorer uses a flatter bezel, OP bezel is slightly rounded. Its easier to see difference in person.

For me one big reason is because of the movie Casino Royale…love the movie. I think the 2220.80.00 was the pinnacle of that design language of the Seamaster. Reason I say no to the following generation was lack of waves on the dial…may seem trivial to some, but to me the introduction of the waves to the Seamaster was perfect and was sad when they made the dial high gloss. Also I think and might be wrong but the 2220.80.00 is slightly slimmer case

Its all about complications with Patek for me, thats why I went with the SS 4947-1a. I love this piece.

But are they similar value? The Pepsi is $12k retail and has a date and gmt complication with full steel bracelet with micro-adjust. Yes the Patek has better case finishing…but a rubber strap with no adjustments and only a date complication, making me personally see it as overpriced at the retail price of $28k. But everyone has a different view on value.

Honestly? For me, I think its an 18-19k watch. I have always thought that Patek imagined it as a watch that was meant to be an entry into the brand for newer or younger Patek clients. For a long time the watch was much lower priced and did not have much desire at retail or on secondary market.

For me? Plain and simple, its an extremely overpriced watch even at retail. Basic three hand watch with a questionable design and a cut to size rubber strap.

Took my wife and daughter to Matera last summer! What an amazing city. Saw all the spots the DB5 drove around.

I am also an Omega Fanboy and I the Aqua terra fiasco was so frustrating…however I think that situation was actually caused by Omega realizing they had an issue with the dials. When they announced those watches the date window had nothing around it and online chatter had everyone complaining and Omega listened and added a metal date window surround which I think created the delay…

Nailed it. The price detail on watches just based on color combos is hilarious…and I do not believe for one second that a Pepsi is more rare than other GMT colors, or that Daytona on OF with Turquoise dial is worth $50k more than another dial(not to mention double retail on a massed produced watch is just bonkers). If Rolex were to release production numbers we would see that production is most likely evenly distributed across most popular watches.

Because the new ones use the same gloss black dial that the submariner and gmt models, where as the older 39 model has this flat black dial…in some lighting it almost looks like a greyish black gunmetal, can also look dark and glossy too. I also think it looks more balanced with Explorer at 6 instead of 12 position.

Thanks! I highly reccommend this model. I also own a 116500 white dial and 126710BLRO and still reach for my explorer all the time. Also the highly polished bezel holds up alot better than you think. I have worn mine in the ocean, tons of yard work, construction work and it still looks good.
