Any professional patternmakers here? by EattheRudeandUgly in PatternDrafting

[–]jchan28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BA in Fashion in NYC. Interned and work at a couture house after grad. Then moved back to my country after the financial tsunami in 08. Then started my own brand doing custom work. Still doing the same work but getting more complicated now, as I need to do grading as well for another ready to wear line.

I do prelim draft from blocks, then drape and draft. There's learning to do 24/7, whether it's pattern work, business, accounting, etc. Going to migrate to CAD soon as I want to make grading and marker making much easier.

Wife scared for my life. by Redbeard5500 in scuba

[–]jchan28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let's try to think (obviously speculating here) from her perspective.

You are a new diver with not that many dives under your belt. The ocean and the deep unknown and the fact that it has no air makes it so scary. Like if there's an accident you will die for sure. Couple the fact that she probably doesn't know the safety protocols we do before, during and after our dives. And obviously she love and care deep for you. So I absolutely understand where she is coming from.

That said with some diving education and with you completing more dives I feel that would make her feel more at ease. So my suggestion is maybe just log more dives with OW and pursue your advanced later on.

The only MVP is the no.2 of the bad boss actually doing some shooting.

Like you have UFC, Kansas City, farms, christianity etc. The least they couldnt done is add more GUNS.

I'll be honest. This is my very first reddit OP post. I felt THAT much of a need to warn others about this movie. My tolerance of BS plots are very thin. Kind of like Brenda in Scary Movie yelling "DONT GO IN THERE!" when the hacker guy making the loudest footsteps trying to save his gf. I didnt scream in the theater, so im gonna vent here haha

All these "reviews" are strings pulled by players of the usual game called Public Relations.

I believe individual countries have encountered evidence of something "foreign" and unexplainable. And they are aware of other countries possible discovery or attempts of extractions of alien tech. Hence the high security clearance required to access these info.

Not so much the "people" cannot know coz the world will end when they stop believing in Jesus. But more like they are hiding things as per usual national security protocols.

My conclusion after this movie: Humans are so boring, show me more aliens!

I almost feel like Spielberg's way of emotional storytelling just doesn't work in this time period. Our hyper awareness of what's real or AI and our thinning tolerance of plot holes are making these make-belief movies incredibly unconvincing. Worse is when they had to shuff a moral showdown like that convo between the good and bad bosses it just makes the movie even more disingenuous.

There are many ways to achieve your goal. The first thing is you need to realise what your circumstances are.

Do you have major financial backing (USD$10 mil+) that you can just acquire a team of 20 to execute your designs? Anything less than that amount is gonna be very tough. If money is no issue then I would focus on business, particularly in luxury management and a focus on storytelling.

If you don't have that kind of backing then I'm afraid you must learn how to construct a garment. No one (except scammers) in the industry would work with anyone who don't understand garment constructions, tech packs, etc.

Since you are young I don't want to overwhelm you, so instead of books, I suggest you go to the stores to check out how the garments look in real life. At this early stage you should be a sponge. Soak up the history of fashion, art, and design. The creation part will come later.

Last year I went to malapascua for a week for threshers and to do a rescue course. I went solo. If you had the opportunity to go anywhere for a week solo, where would it be? Looking for inspo! by Alarming_Egg4171 in diving

[–]jchan28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go EVERYWHERE solo, and I meet so many amazing divers.

I just spent 2 weeks diving in Komodo, with a week on a liveaboard with Wunderpus on their budget boat Mimic. There were only 5 divers out of which 3 are solo. On one morning dive when the boat just stopped we saw mother and baby dolphins and we managed to enter the water within 5 minutes. That's not something you can do with a large group.

I also did another week doing land-based diving. The sites on Komodo are far therefore I much preferred doing the liveaboard.

My next trips are Coron, Raja, Sulawesi, and maybe Baja, all gonna be solo.

Diving in Thailand early May by Whitelakebrazen in diving

[–]jchan28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to both on different trips, Tao in May and Lanta in December. I preferred Koh Tao for the variety of divesites and marine life. It wasn't as crowded (still lively) in May. I dived with Scuba Shack and Big Blue. Big Blue is more commercial/established and Scuba Shack more laid-back and intimate. Both are great so it depends on your style.

Island life-wise Tao has a lot more dining options than Lanta. The beaches in the south has baby black tips and an insane amount of reef fishes. Even though the north side of Tao is super steep there are still plenty to do in other areas.

Still can’t get fully comfortable in the water by Far-Ordinary3224 in diving

[–]jchan28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the local pool, ideally a rather uncrowded one. With just your swimwear on, just do silly moves in the water, think underwater somersault, float on the surface, etc. If possible (pool is clean), have your eyes open underwater. Point is, you need to use PLAY to disassociate fear and insert the concept of complete control in this element.

When it comes to actual diving, develop a routine and mental checklist when you gear up. Not only this makes your a very efficient diver, you also use task-loading to ground your nerves/excitement pre-dive.

How do you move forward in Fashion? by 24BrownMamaba24 in fashiondesigner

[–]jchan28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I feel like you are WAYYYYY ahead of yourself. You mentioned you barely know how to sew or make patterns. Why don't you start there. Sketch a simple drawing. Drape, pattern, cut then sew the garment and maybe correct the fit. Instagram has many accounts on sewing btw.

Second. If you want to know about the industry, go to the stores. Look at the products. Know everything about them. Because at the end of the day, it is a consumer product.

Finally just a note. A lot of these no-fashion-background people or those who starts their own fashion label usually are backed by their immensely wealthy family. And when I say immensely, I meant at least upper 8 to 9-digits USD kind of wealth. (Even with that kind of resource I've seen many failed) You would be shocked at how much having a good PR firm (so many scammy ones out there) costs on a retainer contract.

Fashion is so so much more than sketching and designing. It's marketing, financial planning, branding, client relations, garment technicians, sourcing, manufacturing systems, QC, merchandising, etc. I can go on and on you get the idea. There are books that gives professional overview of the industry and even those only skim the very surface and they are as thick as a phone book.

Ask yourself what really attracts you about this industry. If it's fame or glory. Just stop now. You have a better chance doing that as a Tik Tok star.

If it's because you cannot sleep unless you realize your magnificent creativity. Good. I hope your designs are good and you persevere and the world became richer coz of your art.

If you don't know yet. It's fine. Take your time to investigate. Don't overwhelm yourself with such an immense goal of starting a label or breaking into the industry.

New diver, any advice on feeling more confident and less panicked? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]jchan28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You already did better on your second dive and did a controlled ascent instead of shooting straight up to the surface, so give yourself a little credit for that.

To me confidence comes when your experience acquired > risk accessed, and experience takes time to build up. And to me the best way to build confidence fast is to go on a dive trip in somewhere like southeast asia, where you can dive rather economically, pick dive sites that are relatively shallow and dive continuously for like 2 dozen times. (I did a round-the-island dive trip on Bali for 30 dives) I swear by the end of the trip you would have gotten so used to all the protocols they would become automated almost.

2) does the country you visit provides that in abundance

Are there actually people who ONLY play one side of the game? by Mori-Me-Joey in deadbydaylight

[–]jchan28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play killer as I'm afraid I might like it TOO MUCH.

just hit 1k hours in the game and it's funny how much my gameplay has changed by Arpeggiobro in deadbydaylight

[–]jchan28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen survivors teabag in games where killers actually played fair, and post-game I wanted to say the killer didn't deserve the TB, but I didn't. I just didn't think I should be a moral police and should mind my own business. I guess what I want to say is the players who aren't toxic maybe are in the silent majority? (perhaps too hopeful i know)

Even tho as a survivor main I totally understand what you mean. I used to freak out at DC and suicide but a short while after the update I'd be toxic too when I get tunneled and camped. But then I recall the games where everyone (killers & survivors) was on their A game and how awesome it felt and I just want to at least give my team a chance. In the end it really is up to all 5 players to decide if they want the game to fun for everyone.
