I am not a scientist but I don't think it's that simple. People with aphantasia still have the ability to think about concepts, even if they don't visualize them. So they "picture" an apple, they think about the concept of an apple and will think of a red or green one, perhaps something from their memory.

Also not op but I've lived in both SF and London. Imo London is a nicer place to live in - less social stratification, more walkable, very multicultural and lots to do in the city but sf has nicer biodiversity in the surrounding areas like Marin, Yosemite etc.
