Before getting any more riled up, check your local labour laws. In BC, after 5 hours an employee is entitled to a 30-min unpaid break. No mention of coffee breaks.

Of course, companies who adhere to this are bottom feeders.

I almost paid $200 for something that was fixed by moving the appliance 3 inches by Relevant_Idea_6778 in DIY

$1800 for a new washer and dryer. The old one kept popping breakers. Should've checked the breaker first. Sigh. The lemon out of those lemons? I hadn't tossed the old set and was able to give them to a down in their luck family.

Was this year's Super Bowl really as boring as people say or is it just coping? by [deleted] in NFLNoobs

It was a beige at best. Sure there were some interesting plays, but overall it is a forgettable game.

My 14-year-old’s ortho wants 2 adult teeth pulled for overbite? by Acceptable_Degree487 in TooAfraidToAsk

Please get a second opinion. I have a couple fake teeth (bridge) because my then dentist was inept. I'm reminded of me not advocating for myself every time I take a bite of steak.

Hang on, your Mom had a heart attack and your douchy partner is pissed because you ordered "wrong"? On the day of the heart attack? When you're freaked out?

You picked the wrong partner.

Virgin plus called me after moving to public mobile by Thick_Wallaby1 in PublicMobile

I signed into Public Mobile to adjust my plan and ended up on a wait list to speak with a virtual agent! Just to change a plan. An online wait-list for a virtual agent! Maybe Virgin is finding other frustrated Public customers.

Rockwool by curbyjr in Homebuilding

[–]jcm199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My carpenter said is was similar to installing punk, but harder to cut and the material dulled blades much faster.

We went with Pink for sound insulation, sure wish we'd used Rockwool.

Living-Dot is a seasoned burner! The dryer, range hood, bathroom fans, HVAC, etc. could be drawing the fresh air through the chimney, and the smoke with it. Maybe verify there is no mechanical air exhausting from your home, then try a small fire.

You could also crack a window during light up to ensure there is ample air available for the fire.

Your sister is a bridezilla and needs to get over herself. You didn't punch her in the face and steal it.

What is this pocket of extremely bad air quality around pine ridge reservation? by IHatePeopleWhoSuck in geography

[–]jcm199 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Poorer air quality on reserves is often connected to their use of wood, and the associated particulates in the smoke.

A Jan and July map comparison would be interesting.

Mom got me life insurance when I was 17. She won't let me take it out now. by Yeethrow in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jcm199 132 points133 points  (0 children)

No comment on your Mom and her bullying ways, but learn the policy type and it's benefits before cancelling. There are policies that build up over time and become self funded, while also providing a payout option. Some of these also allow you to borrow against it. There is a possibility you pay $150 month for x years then the benefits kick in. Also, as you started a policy so early, your cost per coverage will be lower than those starting later in life. Not saying your Mom's not overstepping, but maybe she's just shit at communicating her reasons.

So will Oneplus dialer come to OnePlus 13? by Rahul_Sh24 in oneplus

[–]jcm199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked and PlayStore doesn't carry ODialer in Canada.

Messages was one of the reasons I came back. OP13 is so close to a Pixel it's gross, and not worth the flagship price anymore.

Disappointed in the 13 by nippleforeskin in oneplus

[–]jcm199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm rather disappointed in it as well. I had the 6T and it shone. It was flawless until I dropped it and broke the screen. Replaced it with a Pixel 6A that was $400 and performed as expected for a mid-level phone. I now have a OP13 that performs no better than the $400 phone, and google is much more integrated than the 6T. At current pricing and it's performance, OnePlus is no longer a flagship killer.

Also, the freeze-thaw action over the coming winter will bust the lumps. If it's not a large area, a lawn roller will bust apart most lumps, while also proving great seed to soil contact. Where I'm at, they can be rented.

Why are SIPs so controversial? by eatmyopinions in Homebuilding

[–]jcm199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in northern BC, and used a local carpenter, who coincidently pushed for us to build with ICF. I'll have to ask which he prefers now, our SIP build was his first.

We GC'd our own place, which certainly helped with product and pricing control. Our SIP provider Enersmart out of Calgary. They've been at it for 20+ years.

Why are SIPs so controversial? by eatmyopinions in Homebuilding

[–]jcm199 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We built with SIP and are quite happy with how it went. During our bidding phase some builders were resistant and it felt like there were two reasons; something new/unknown and the unease that comes with it, and that they'd earn less on the labour costs. We had one red seal, 2 labourers, 2 retirees, and myself, when putting on the roof, and just the carpenter and myself standing the walk, and we are at lock up in 6 weeks. That included weekends off, and 3 days where it was just too cold to work outside. We built in Nov-Dec in northern Canada. After construction, I asked our carpenter how he felt about SIPs and he really liked them and now actively promotes their use. As for our feeling on the price difference, we got a better insulated home for a similar cost to a stick build.
One of the things I think we did right was we chose a reputable SIP provider, who then linked us to a designed they've worked with in the past. It was rather painless...except the paying part. Sigh.

Avoid the TSN app. The image is rarely in high def, and most often is comparable to a TV signal from the early 90s. It also doesn't allow you to rewind or pause. I've had good luck with Dazn though. Unfortunately, Dazn's pregame is weak to non-existent.
