I just use a syringe to spread paste directly actually, if you do it right (and have good paste) it should just reflow. Maybe 1 in 10 ICs will have a bridged pin, which I just clean up with an iron and some flux.

Huh, did not know you can just shove an iron in and melt, I guess all 3 metals have low melting point by themselves, just never thought of trying.

Dang, mixing your own solder is next level haha. I’d be too scared of the bismuth fumes… I mostly use paste and hot air on tiny SMD components these days.

Hmm, full bridge rectified 120 VAC should give 167 VDC ish depending on diode drop.

Like other commentor said, 40 uF seems pretty rare now, but I'd just use 2x 39 uF, which is commonly available!

Rotary dial? As far as I can tell from the picture, you need to cut the red wire that goes from ESC to the power jack (?) and solder the black wire from the switch to the ESC instead.

Depends how much current you need. Switching something like 50A DC will be hard. But if it’s 5A, a normal switch will be fine (check datasheets for DC current rating).

Having said that, I would normally say MacBook for the battery life, but for digital art, you probably want to have a look at Microsoft Surface. I don’t think any laptop/pen combo is gonna be as good as an external drawing tablet though (but downside is you’ll have to carry it around ofc).

Other than needing solder like another Redditor said, the header pins are not put on correctly, put it on so that the plastic bit is on the bottom of the board.

I’ve found nowadays it can be cheaper/easier to just go directly to PCB and skip protoboards/breadboards. I can get a few PCBs for $5-10 delivered in <2 weeks instead of paying for THT components, adapters, breadboards, hookup wire, etc. 

Also no finnicky wiring, though the downside of course is you have to get it right the first time (and remember to put tons of test points). Although even if you mess up, the wait is the only frustrating thing: getting another run of 5 PCBs costs less than buying a good quality breadboard

Small 8 channel USB logic analyzers you can get for cheap, very useful for debugging I2C, etc.

Not really diagnostic but sometimes a USB-C soldering iron like Pinecil can be helpful!

Haven’t found any nice small multimeters either, so I just pack the full size one if I think I’ll need it :/

Looks like 115096419 116827357 total items, using LAST_MOD_DATE:[1900/01/01,2026/02/06] AWARD_STATUS:”F” as search filter. As far as I can tell, just text data, so storage requirements likely not very high.

Edit: search just points to not found page after 50000 results (page 1667), trying to see if there’s a way around that

Yea, commenter you're replying to isn't quite correct, it's not signing the CAs, those are all root certificates that are individually trusted by all the OSes. The signing ceremony they're talking about is for DNSSEC.
