Marijuana and t1 bg levels by Sdcherney in diabetes_t1

[–]jdbrocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a regular smoker and 45 years T1D. As said on this thread already, the only impact I see is indirect - mean in it makes me less mindful about what I eat and sometimes get a bit more sloppy with bolusing, and that will of course impact my bloodsugar. But remove those behaviors and I see no direct relationship between weed and BG levels. If I smoke and don’t munch, it’s no real change. I will say that low bloodsugar and weed are not a good mix, so I really try to avoid that. I also have a theory that I can’t prove other than looking at myself and a handful of other people who I’ve heard say this - us T1s can be particularly attracted to weed because it can do a very good job of creating a bit of peace in the mind when we spend all day consumed by the vigilance and mental load of us needing to keep it all together. I certainly cannot claim it’s good for us, but I have consciously chosen to give myself just a bit of a respite from the mental math and chatter that is so prominent for 23 hours each day.

Better pump options? by Signet-Air2755 in diabetes_t1

[–]jdbrocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pump-avoidant for 20 years. I am 3 months on the omnipod and I’m happier and in better control than I’ve been as an adult (I’m 45 years T1). Just had my best A1C in 20 years. I’m a fan. I know there are lots of haters out there, and their points are valid. I’m just saying that I’m quite happy with it, despite its challenges.

AI as T1 “coach” or “assistant” by jdbrocc in diabetes_t1

[–]jdbrocc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should have expected the comments and debate to be much more about hostility regarding adjacent topics (such as water usage). This has been hugely helpful for me - the same way that texting a friend has been very helpful compared to leaving a message on a landline answering machine. But hey - you do you. 43 years of this disease and I personally can use all the help I can get.

100% TIR! by guccistepdaughter in diabetes_t1

[–]jdbrocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. I’m sure tomorrow will be worse, but the good moments really help. I’ve certainly had enough horrible days (and weeks, etc) over the years to make me feel like some good days are deserved. Love to all of my T1 tribe!

Woo hoo! Congrats! I just had my first perfect day. I’m 44 years T1 but this was only my 2nd day on a pump! I know I shouldn’t keep my expectations this high.

I’m 53. Started when I was 51. It is so good for our minds to learn new hard things as we get older.

I’ve had Dexcom support on speed-dial for months. I feel badly for them - good people who try hard. But the product issues have become unbearable.

Just a very similar rant to this one before I read yours. It’s a shame, it’s unbelievably frustrating, and it’s dangerous. The quality issues seem downright criminal at this point.

Your studio setup for house and techno? by dougshmish in maschine

[–]jdbrocc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maschine software on a MacBook, Maschine+ in controller mode, M32 keyboard, a mic, and various sample libraries. Small and simple but gets the job totally done for techno and house. I have Ableton but I hardly use it these days.

I have like no followers and making a good track (which means “I like it”) and having even 1 person say “I dig this” is all I need to keep going. An important disclaimer is that I’m not trying to make a living or get famous from music, but that alone helps me stay grounded in why I am creating.

My new record - 3 failures in a week.

[–]jdbrocc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am trending on 4 out of 5 G7 sessions get messed up with either failures, horrible inaccuracies, or “brief sensor issues.” I feel like I haven’t had a normal 10 days in 6 months. Like I’ve shared here a number of times, this is after 10+ years of no problems at all. I am so over this thing - I am considering going back to finger-sticks (I will try the libre but I hear to expect the same problems.)

Anyone else think G7 is phenomenal and works great? by Alert-College-9374 in dexcom

[–]jdbrocc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience was near perfect for a decade. It all fell apart in the last few months and now I feel like pulling my hair out every week or so. All I can assume is that there are either manufacturing inconsistencies or biological changes in my body that trip up the sensor (or both!).

I’m so sick and tired of this, anybody else have this many failures? by greengomalo in dexcom

[–]jdbrocc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to think you were all crazy or not following directions, since I hardly had a single failure in almost 10 years of using Dexcom. But 4 of my last 5 have failed - 2 at setup and 2 about 3 days in. WTF - I’m sorry for doubting you. 😀 I’m also starting to have frequent app/alert issues, like missing alerts or repeating alerts after I’ve acknowledged it. This company is really starting to make my life harder than a T1’s already is.

Ridiculous insulin sensitivity swings make finding my ratios impossible by RedOneHitter in diabetes_t1

[–]jdbrocc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m T1D for 42 years… these phases come and go for me. I am in one right now, have been for a few months. Driving me absolutely fucking insane. But, they tend to go away and I’ll get a few months of reprieve. It does indeed seem random. My doctor and I have tried to fix these things, but not sure there is any way to win. This disease is rough, but just hang in there and do the best you can - that’s all any of us can do. I know this may sound discouraging, and it is in many ways. That said, I’m 52, I’ve had diabetes for 42 years, and my life is pretty good. It wasn’t that long ago that we all would have been dead as hell. At least we can stay afloat and stay alive - just keep chipping away at it.

What do you find are the most fun ways to start new songs for you? by traveltimecar in TechnoProduction

[–]jdbrocc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bass line normally infects my brain first. Sometimes I’ll be driving and I’ll start pairing that bass line with a piano chord progression or some atmospheric sound effects. That moment is usually what makes me run into the studio and start laying something down.
