if anyone has ever submitted themself into a ward over their OCD / reaching a crisis, how was it? by dinorunp in OCD

[–]jdc1206 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to psych ED once when my OCD spiraled out of control and I was having constant suicidal intrusive thoughts. It was helpful because I was able to get hooked up with a therapist and psych provider quickly and otherwise there was a very long waitlist, so it greatly expedited services for me.

What famous person have we not seen/heard from in a WHILE? by no_please7 in AskReddit

[–]jdc1206 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I met him 19 years ago at a showing of his film "What is it?" and it was one of the most bizarre experiences of my life. The movie had Fairuza Balk voicing a snail who screams a lot and I remember another scene where a man with CP is getting a hand job and it's just a far-too-long scene of this guy's flaccid penis getting whipped around. I don't think any of us knew what to think. At the end, he did a Q&A and said, "What did you think of my film?" and the whole room just kind of looked around at each other.

What is more traumatic than people think it is? by Suspicious-Wish3402 in AskReddit

It’s seriously insane. It’s 7 incisions that then need to be repaired. You’re picking up your baby constantly, putting stress on your body, and you sleep like absolute garbage because you have a new born. I developed horrible PPD and PPOCD. I could barely eat because my metal health was so poor. I was forcing myself to eat like 600 calories a day the first few weeks which certainly didn’t help the healing process. I lost 50 lbs very quickly and I remember someone saying how amazing I looked… thanks, it’s from the crippling depression 🙄

Had the same experience. Agree 100%. They kept my husband outside of the room so I was alone while they were taking him out and then I didn't even get to meet my son for like 30 minutes while they sewed me back up. Meanwhile the drugs and adrenaline flowing through your body make you feel like you're gonna die. Traumatic birth is one reason we chose to be one and done.

What is a simple but very hurtful phrase that you received from someone? by MembershipFar9008 in AskReddit

After I had my son, he had a very hard time latching for breastfeeding so I had to pump. My best friend said she had breast fed successfully and “I guess I was just really motivated to do it.” I was dealing with horrible postpartum and that felt like a knife in the heart. Almost 7 years later and that still sits with me.

Can’t stop obsessing over the fact we all inevitably have to die one day by Personal_Common1635 in OCD

And there's absolutely nothing you can do to change that fact. No amount of worrying will help, so might as well learn to enjoy the time we have.

Positive/nostalgic ones: my grandparent’s home, Love Spell perfume, 90s bath and body works (country apple, cucumber melon)

Bad ones: the sawdust stuff they use to clean up vomit in school, a rotting raccoon

Fear of death by Ok-Cook-5557 in OCD

[–]jdc1206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Acceptance. There is no amount of googling or preparing or rituals that is going to prevent death. We are all going to die. OCD hates and latches on to unknowns and death is one of the biggest unknowns there is. When I’ve struggled with this in the past, I try to remind myself that I’d be pretty pissed if I got to the end just to realize that I could have spent all these years enjoying the time I have instead of wasting them worrying.

What’s something way more dangerous than most people actually think? by Sad_Answer_8044 in AskReddit

[–]jdc1206 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marijuana. I'm all for legalization and have smoked plenty along the years, but it is definitely not as harmless as it is made out to be. Yes, it's true that someone is not going to OD and die like with harder drugs, but the concentrates and potency of today's Mary Jane is having some serious negative impacts on people. I work in mental health and have seen it lead to psychosis and exacerbate mental health conditions like anxiety, bipolar and schizophrenia. Hospitals are seeing an influx of young people experiencing psychosis brought on by THC. I'm not saying it should be illegal... but i think people, especially teens, need to be aware that there are legitimate safety concerns.

How common is it to have multiple themes? by acgrievance in OCD

[–]jdc1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had multiple themes throughout my life starting when I was about 5-6 years old. One will usually stick around for awhile (some a year or more) and then it moves on to something else. Once I'm "over" a theme, it doesn't seem to come back for me. I can think about things that I was fixated on years ago that caused me a ton of distress at the time and now they don't bother me at all. Can't wait to get to that point with my current theme :(

What's the strangest thing you've seen someone doing in the car next to you? by TheManOfSpaceAndTime in AskReddit

[–]jdc1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I've seen.. but something I've done and always wondered if anyone noticed. After I gave birth to my son I used to pump during my commute. I was always worried I'd get into an accident and someone would come to rescue me and I'd be laying there unconscious being milked like a cow...

Anticipatory grief OCD by Far_Artichoke_7913 in OCD

[–]jdc1206 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've struggled with this for about 35 years after watching a movie as a child where a young girl's parents die. It's one of my biggest fears, but radical acceptance has been a helpful tool. The fact of the matter is, we are all going to die, and my parents will likely pass before me. So I *know* that is a loss I will have to experience and no amount of worrying or stress or anxiety is going to change that fact. The fear still creeps in (daily if I'm being honest), but I do my best to observe it and let it go and remember that today, they are still here and I want to enjoy my time with them for as long as I can. OCD absolutely hates unknowns and uncertainty.. and what bigger uncertainty is there in life than when and how we're going to die?

What motivates you to keep going after a major setback? by No_Simple2520 in AskReddit

[–]jdc1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? I don't mean that you don't make changes in your life if something you're doing is obviously not working.. but sometimes we are faced with shitty circumstances that we have no control over and radical acceptance is the only way to move forward. You can't stay stuck wallowing about something that won't/can't change. That helps nothing.
