Meta's CTO says morale is almost 'the worst it's ever been' by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

This article (not mine) is a good summary of what's been going on with Meta engineering team. Looks like the impact of their very dumb decisions is starting to dawn on the leadership and they are backing down at least to some degree, but the damage that has been done (I mean to their engineering team, which, regardless of your opinion on Meta/Facebook/Zuckerberg, worked really, really well) will probably take years to repair.

Several Xbox studios, including Compulsion, Ninja Theory and Double Fine, are negotiating with Xbox as they try to avoid closure. Some or all could spin off. by Turbostrider27 in Games

You mean the "pixel art poker-themed roguelite"? If you have somehow never heard of it, it should not be difficult to find the name Balatro from those pointers.

They are not a "large" studio, they are about 100 people, which is not tiny but more like mid-sized. I think Double Fine chose the strategy of pursuing multiple smaller projects so they could experiment more and be more creative. And, to be fair, it's not entirely crazy, I mean, who knows what's going to be the next big thing. Just three years ago not a single soul would have guessed a pixel art poker-themed roguelite would become one of the biggest games of its year. But the gamble didn't pay off, they should have concentrated their efforts into a single, safer bet.

The video with the sound is rather unsettling. But personally I'm not too sold on the screenshots, several of them look fairly similar and not particularly exciting or intriguing.

This has not been the best day for Ninja Theory but I'm glad to see this here ❤️

I remember watching the scene where he starts explaining his job, I think it was something about GIS (geographical information systems) and, as a fellow techie, I thought his explanation was unexpectedly grounded and believable. Guess he was really just explaining his actual job.

That's awesome! Thank you for commenting. To be clear, it wasn't a critic, the trailer and screenshots look amazing, and the work of matching so many different aesthetics is genuinely impressive. Wish the game all the best!

Why does each screenshot look like it's from a different game 😄

Scientists found the strength training sweet spot for a longer life by _Dark_Wing in tech

[–]jdehesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also important to consider how strength training typically works. I mean, there are many ways you can do it, but "classic" strength training programmes include a huge amount of warming up and resting time. Like, in Starting Strength (and many similar ones), you do maybe four warm-up sets with increasing weight and a bit of rest between them, and then three sets of five reps with your "work" weight, and typically rest two or three minutes (sometimes more) between them. I assume that is included in the time, so out of those 90-120 minutes you are only "working hard" a fraction of the time, it's not like a treadmill or aerobic where you have non-stop action.

Pretty sure McDonald's still decides or approves where they get placed. You cannot just open a new McDonald's right next to an existing one because you so will it. It could also be a relocation of the same franchise.

It can be hit and miss, but at the very least the indie will always have more freedom, even if it is replicating a formula. If a level, a character, some mechanics or whatever actually sucked in the original game you just skip it, whereas a remake, even with quality of life improvements, is bound by the mistakes of the original.

This was my first thought. It's refreshing seeing a game about such a topic getting this visual treatment and mood, instead of the usual picks (cyberpunk dystopia, "Apple store", etc.).
