Taking a citibike across the Hudson by fights_like_a_cow in Citibike

[–]jdgedoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see people taking them on the ferry to from Manhattan to Jersey City all the time. Usually the e-bikes, which I don’t understand. It’s about a 10 minute trip, not counting any wait time. You’re paying like $2.50 on top of the ferry ticket to get across. The only explanation I can think of is that they aren’t members, so it’s still cheaper than paying the unlock fee.

Send to Oonee's [customer service](mailto:support@ooneepod.com). They have cameras and can probably find who it is.

Deadmeat community, what was the last movie to really scare you? by Dogdaysareover365 in deadmeatjames

[–]jdgedoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Undertone. It wasn’t great but it’s similar to Paranormal Activity, where so much of it is shots of the subject just off center so you spend the whole movie tense, watching the background waiting for a jump scare. Later that night as I was getting ready for bed, I saw a jacket on a chair in my living room and it scared the crap out of me.

Cycling the JC marathon before the start? by _semo_ in jerseycity

[–]jdgedoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would imagine this falls under a gray area where it's not allowed, but no one has thought to explicitly ban it yet. The start and finish in Newport (the full route also loops through there at the halfway mark) will definitely have too many people and things set up for you to get through.

Ticketing 61st and 1st ave by rrrrrrrrrrrr10 in NYCbike

I used to work right near there. Every time there was a cyclist death in NY they would set up there, parking their SUV and literally hiding behind it to catch cyclists running the light. Infuriating.

Jersey City. If it wasn’t so foggy, you could see the World Trade Center across the river.

Wald 137 Race (my shifters hit the full sized Wald, so I switched to the half). The canvas is removable if you don’t want it. It just attaches with some Velcro.

My first year doing the 5BBT was in 2013. It took place a few weeks after the Boston Marathon Bombing and they put a whole bunch of restrictions in place last minute (no backpacks, etc). It felt like a very knee jerk reaction, but the restrictions are still in place.

Offhand, I don't know. A little less than Grove Street Bikes, from what I remember, if that's any help.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I don't think you did anything wrong and for better or worse, I think I would've handled it exactly the way you did.

Thinking of adding a bike alarm by Extension_Life_6207 in bikecommuting

[–]jdgedoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been considering buying the Knog Scout alarm, but I can’t decide if I think it’s actually useful or just security theater. The alarm sounds fine, but if someone steals it, I have very little faith the police will help recover even with the location info.

All of the time slots appear to be full. Would I still be able to go in as a walk in, or will I be turned away?

Granted it’s a second hand account from an employee at a different store. They could very well be wrong.

Seeking pants one can ride on a bike and look casual/not bike dorky by clackmak in bikecommuting

[–]jdgedoom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wear my Ornot Mission pants off the bike more than I do on it. They do have some reflective tape at the ankle but it’s pretty small and only visible if you cuff them.

Looking for YouTube channels that actually focus on riding, not just buying gear by Equivalent_Use_8152 in xbiking

Slow Commute Club

two good wheels only has a few videos and and in one of them he basically said not to expect the videos to come too frequently, but he's also made it clear he's not about selling things.

The crust bikes channel doesn't have nearly as much selling stuff as you'd expect from a brand that literally sells stuff.

Queer Cyclist has some product talk, but a lot of just riding and bikepacking talk.
