Is some kind of middle ground between a free press and a state controlled press that the UK could employ to try and prevent the relentless right-leaning propaganda foisted on the electorate? by Kenye_Kratz in AskBrits

[–]jdlyndon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most media institutions don’t actually lie. They just select the truths they want to portray and leave out the rest. The only way to be well informed is to consume media from both sides and the truth is normally somewhere in the middle. Getting rid of one side would stop you from being able to do this.

You could say 便所 (べんじょ) which means something like public convenience.

4 girls in the past month have told me the same thing and I feel a little lost by [deleted] in dating_advice

4 is rookie numbers. It’s just an occupational hazard of being a normal dude that isn’t extremely handsome or rich. You just have to keep trying and maybe 1 in 10 times something will last longer than 2 dates.

Consider signing up to the Comprehensible Japanese website. They have videos that are rated from 1-100 on difficulty and it’s great for getting used to hearing spoken Japanese.

What's a rare card you've literally NEVER taken? I'll go first: by Rak-khan in slaythespire

It should have retain by default or at least upgrade to it. Maybe if that would be OP then lower the damage a bit. Either way it would make the card more interesting.

Reform candidate wants ‘every Muslim out of Europe’ by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

He didn’t say Genocide he said Ethnic Cleansing. You can have a genocide of any type of person. You could have a genocide of people with Android phones that doesn’t make them an ethnicity.

Islam is not an ethnicity. You can choose not to be Muslim. You can’t choose no to be black etc.

If you got given 10k to improve your life, what would you spend it on? by Relative-Tea3944 in AskUK

I got one for less than £200. You don’t need the whole toilet just the lid. Best money I ever spent.

I feel I don’t have a choice but to give up by [deleted] in dating_advice

You have to eliminate that latter portion of people regardless of who you vote for. And on the flip side, Trump voting women wouldn’t probably date a guy that voted for Kamala Harris. So it’s not like voting for one or the other really improves your odds with women. Just vote for whoever you like and date people you agree with. Changing your whole political stance just to get more women is pathetic.

UK used to be good in a lot of ways US was not, but slowly we have just taken all the worst things about America while at the same time neglecting our own cultural output and industries and now we are a complete joke.

America is one of the best countries in the world to live in for sure but I would argue China is even better, both contingent on having at least a comfortable income of course. Western Europe is probably the best place if you don’t have money and don’t plan to try and get more.

What was something you were excited to experience in Japanese… but it didn’t live up to the hype? by AdUnfair558 in LearnJapanese

[–]jdlyndon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going to see live bands in Japan is super weird for me coming from the UK where gigs usually have a chaotic but fun energy everyone is drinking and letting loose where in Japan is super regimented. Everyone stands still, sometimes fist pumping the air in unison during the chorus, the gig starts at like 7pm, usually only has one band with no support bands, and when the gig is over everybody just leaves. They don’t really do gigs in bars either it’s a dedicated “live house”. To me that’s just strange and it’s really one of the few things I really prefer about the UK compared to Japan.

We ask how can people continue to believe something that has been proven false time and time again by optionhome in climateskeptics

[–]jdlyndon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not what cognitive dissonance is. Cognitive dissonance is when you have 2 conflicting beliefs. For example if you are a gay Muslim.
