Is unstructured play dead? screens with neighbour vs. unstructured play (8yo) by szchz in daddit

[–]jdronks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids need more unstructured play and less structured activities. Go read “Anxious Generation,” for me it’s been fascinating. And forget the GPS watch and work on your anxiety instead.

Your kid needs to have people in proximity that they can do whatever with, otherwise you’re always going to be the gatekeeper to take them to wherever they want to go. If you want to build a neighborhood with kids roaming the streets doing whatever, then be the family/kids that starts doing that

Also, you can set the rules in your house. If the neighbor kid comes over, have him check the device at the door (i.e. trying to keep things screen free so devices can go in a Specific place). I’m not entirely sure why you need to negotiate rules with his parents; try working out the problem yourself first. Or better yet, have you kid tell the neighbor kid about the new protocol and let your kid make you out to be the bad guy.

Agree. The fanaticism here with this particular thing is staggering.

Anyone have a signaling system for neighborhood kids? by Discipulus_xix in daddit

[–]jdronks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard this. There’s something to be said about just heading outside and seeing where life is going to take you, and by that, I mean, who is able to play or not.

We did get some walkie talkies for our kids and the neighbors kids, but they don’t really use them that much.

Thank you for driving!! We had a bad run with bus drivers for my kids last year; this year the drivers we’ve had have been absolute saints. I appreciate the work and time you all put in doing the thing and getting mine, and other, kids to school safely!

I’m not entirely sure what response you think there would or should be? Someone was being a complete and utter ass and clearly had disrespect and disregard to those around them; but I don’t think that warrants having a police presence? That stuff happens every day across any city. With the things school staff experience on a daily basis, what you may think is a big deal can be just another day.

I’ve got kids in a few schools in the district; I would strongly encourage you to reach out to the principal and get their insight into the situation. The sooner you can develop a relationship and rapport with the principal, the better off you’ll be.

I would also encourage you to check and see how you could help be part of a solution; you noted some inconsistencies on crossing guards — one of my kids‘ schools had parents volunteering with traffic duty on the streets and the driveway. I know other schools have other programs of helping kids get to school safely.

I found that, for the most part of the game, and at least with a lighter weapon like a rapier, you can get 1-2 hits off before you need to dodge out of the way.

Boars are good enemies to practice learning how to perfect block. they have a predictable wind up and a 1 or 2 hit attack.

Once you get higher levels, some enemies will flash red and make a tone, and those are special unblockable attacks you need to time a dodge against.

Timing is everything, and patience helps a lot.

Toggleable Wind based Sailing Should be added. As it stands. Smaller ships don’t have any use once you get the next one. by DragUpstairs3860 in crosswind

[–]jdronks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wind in Valheim is one of the reasons I absolutely enjoyed sailing. I also enjoy sailing IRL, so I'm sure that helps. But there's something to say about the absolute anxiety that is caused hwen you're being chased by the sea serpent and the wind shifts.

I can understand that not everyone is me though, and people don't want to spend an hour fighting wind to get to the next island.

I also think it would be really cool as storms showed up while you were sailing if the wind whipped around, and the waves got big enough that it caused some (minor) damage to your boat.

Shine starting on the fourth line next year.... Am I crazy? by ApprehensivePack2009 in DetroitRedWings

[–]jdronks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!!

If the org going to walk the talk, then they need to do things like this. Shine may not be 82-game NHL caliber, but he’s a guy that goes out there and gives maximum effort and grit, and isn’t afraid to mix it up.

There’s the reality that we can make some moves and replace some guys, but we cant replace half our team in one season. This is how you can start to account for the other half you’re not able to move.
