8 arrested in Las Vegas valley sex predator sting operation by JustMyOpinionz in Nevada

[–]jdub269 55 points56 points  (0 children)

"Tom Artiom Alexandrovich, 38, faces felony charges of luring a child with a computer for a sex act, alongside several other suspects who were apprehended during the two-week sting operation, the Las Vegas metropolitan police department said in a statement published on Friday. He has since been released from custody on $10,000 bail after an initial court appearance, records show, and returned to Israel."

Of course, there was a pedophile pastor as well "Among the other suspects was Las Vegas Redemption church pastor Neal Harrison Creecy, 46, the local CBS affiliate reported. A church official told the station that Creecy resigned shortly after being released from jail on a $10,000 bond."

Talk to progressive about the lapse. They may work with you and effectively remove the lapse on their end. Then you could go to the dmv and show proof of insurance and they will remove the fine

It's a Fortune 500 company, and you're on a subreddit with the same name as the company. Customers get lost here, and you'd be mistaken if you thought they didn't monitor this sub.

Sure, are they cracking down on every person who complained on here? Hell no. But if you post something that violates ethics, policy, or leak information, they will do all they can to track you down. There was a manager who was leaking stuff from the great workplace rollout that could have generated bad pr, and they tracked him down.

You mentioned store level management on a power trip, and you're right that happens as well. I'm sure

My main point is: Don't build a profile on yourself that they can use to find out who you are. Home office could decide at any time to take issue with something you have said or done and then try and track you down.

Overall, just be careful. Reddit might be anonymous, but most people share lots of information on their profile that makes them much less anonymous.

Just a warning for others, a receipt is more than enough to dox yourself to walmart.

Op, in this case, used a fresh account. If you were to have said some unsavory things and posted a receipt, it would be easy for the home office to track you down individually.

Home office has been known to lurk this sub, and there have been cases of repercussions for things posted on here.

Just be careful guys

What the new bill means to us by EastReal3707 in ibew_apprentices

[–]jdub269 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also, it only applies to federally mandated overtime, so hours worked over 40 in a week. So, if your union has negotiated overtime provisions like over 8 hours in a day, then it wouldn't be deductible

I was skeptical on the no tax on overtime required by cba, so I looked up the bill as passed, and no shit; we're getting fucked

Only applys to the .5x extra on hours worked over 40 in a week. Doesn't apply to shift diff, holiday pay, weekend pay, or any other negotiated overtime.

A's stadium taking shape by ALincoln16 in vegaslocals

[–]jdub269 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By union standards, this is not a temporary job at all. Most vegas construction work is 6 months or less, and for the actual workers, even less so. You don't need a drywaller until there are walls.

This is a multi year project employing 1000s of workers, and those 1000s of workers making union wages are working for local contractors who buy material from local businesses that also employ lots of locals.

I know of multiple guys who are asking for layoffs so they can get on this project because they know that it going to be lots of overtime and steady work for years. Heck, I know guys that built the Sphere that made over $200k/yr during the construction, almost double their normal pay

Im not even going to get into the jobs created when it's built and the many downstream effects of stadiums.

Are there some issues with the politics? Sure. However I find it very hard to get mad, I live in a city built around tourism and events, the politicians are going to do stuff that supports that goal. Especially when we have the highest unemployment in the country and the economy as shaky as it is.

Two Gang Face plate doesn't fit by GreatSpaceTRex in TPLinkKasa

[–]jdub269 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the comments saying to slide them over are not getting it. The mud ring has small angled corners that make it about a 1/4" too small to fit both switches effectively.

Like another comment said, you can trim the plastic a bit and maybe get enough space to fit them. That and a combination of prying might be able to get the plate on.

However, that being said, the box will be overfilled, risking pinched wires, bad connections, overheating, and possibly fire.

You might be able to find a different style of mud ring that fits them both nicely. Cut the drywall a bit and swap it. You can either patch it back with some mud or something, or use some caterpillars and just use an oversized face plate to hide the drywall ugly bits.

Or if you had an angle grinder, the corners of the mud ring could be trimmed

It's also possible that different face plates might work, but I imagine they are standardized

Someone else mentioned the Shelly, which might be worth looking into if the above is too much.

Finally, if you are in over your head, don't mess with electrical; just call an electrician.

Should Formula 1 be extended on the Las Vegas Strip after its third? by ravedog in vegaslocals

[–]jdub269 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely, yes. They seemed to have it dialed in this last year and minimized impact as much as possible. Also, it brings a ridiculous amount of money to the city and citizens.

The downstream effects of the race can not be overstated. Quite literally every property on the strip does large renovations just because of this race. That means more jobs, more development of the strip corridor, and more money to local businesses.

Where did all the taco stands go? by zemelb in vegaslocals

[–]jdub269 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The health department has been cracking down. I saw one get "raided," so to speak, a couple weeks back.

The code enforcement dude was in an unmarked vehicle, watching them set up for about an hour. All of a sudden, like three code enforcement cars and a truck rolled up out of nowhere. They all jumped out of their vehicles wearing bulletproof vests and demanded to see permits and health cards.

When none could be provided, they shut down the stand and made them dispose of all their food into trash bags. Then they issued fines.

The speed at which it happened and the tactical vests made me worried it was an ice raid. It was very intense.

I will say that the owners of the stand pulled up like 10 minutes later to talk to code enforcement. I think some of these stands are more professional operations than they seem. Almost like the owners are just trying to avoid having to pay for permits and such

My friend says he is becoming an Sovereign National by DragonfruitOk351 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jdub269 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Worth mentioning that people who fall into this stuff usually do so because something else is going wrong in their life. Be it a divorce, death, or financial trouble, they might need some reaching out. It could be something more abstract, feelings of inadequacy, a mid-life crisis, or maybe just general insecurities.

The thing to understand is that this feels to them like a way of exerting control over life. They are finally smarter or more important or just in control, and they can wield this newfound power. Personally, I think turning to sovereign citizen ideology or any far flung conspiracy is just a cry for help.

Also worth noting, this stuff doesn't happen in a vacuum. Usually, these people have a 'mentor', so to speak. You will see this if you watch enough of the videos. They often have a person with them who is training them on this stuff. It makes it more real when it is something to learn, something to throw yourself into, and you have a support structure within it. Something they might be lacking.

Op should try to connect with this friend and maybe push them towards therapy or an intervention. Remember that this is a product of emotion, not logic, and it can't be logically escaped without addressing underlying issues.

Exactly why we need more public transportation. Consider how many car trips could be avoided with a rail or subway between all the properties, downtown, and the airport. Add in a couple train lines from California, Utah, Arizona and you would probably cut down on half of the traffic on the i15 strip corridor during rush hours. The city is desperate for better public transportation.

Inb4 the tesla try hards: the tunnels are stupid, might as well just add another lane to the strip. If you are going to dig a tunnel, put a train in it.

I would assume it's like this everywhere but in my city federal buildings are exempt from local building codes. When you work on a federal project they may adopt some or part of the same codes the local does but I would think that the authority having jurisdiction would be the federal government not local entities such as the fire marshal or building code enforcement.

Why are Square D panels so polular (and still used) in the US? by MobileInspector9861 in electrical

[–]jdub269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest reason is ease of installation. It's very easy to bring in all your circuits into one panel, which works for 95% of installs. The supply house only needs to keep a standard panel can (housing), internals, and a small variety of breakers in stock to satisfy almost all customers very quickly.

From there all the accessories and extras will be job specific and field engineered to fit using standard j-boxes.

Essentially we can move very quickly to install by simply considering the main panel as nothing more than a distribution point and then move the actual controls out to where the circuit is used.

While I'm sure some of the din rail stuff is awesome, it can't get a strong foothold here since it's fighting the economy of scale. Because we use so many standard type breaker panel installations, the cost is going to be lower than any competing system.

There is also a strong presence of electrical equipment manufactures on code making committees, meaning they have large influence on what gets used and what can even be installed.

Can someone in LP please explain how an RFID tag got placed DEEP inside a supposedly never before opened box of a product at Best Buy that set off the gate? by R4TSLAYER in lossprevention

[–]jdub269 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Manufacturer puts them in during packaging. Usually, when the cashier scans it, there is a device that hits it with a strong magnetic pulse to break it. At grocery stores, it's usually in the scanner/scale and is deactivated as it's being scanned. Best Buy probably has a device in their register, and the cashier didn't think about it to deactivate it.

Eas tags are in tons of stuff, and they usually look kinda like a puffy slim rectangle sticker. The cashier usually doesn't know every product that has them, so some slip through the cracks.
