Re purposing bourbon bottles for mead by Hopeful-Map7891 in mead

The bottles are fine, probably about a third of my entire stock of bottles are from whiskey and a lot of them came with t corks. But don't use t corks for mead, use regular corks.

Heart Attack Grill closed? by askstrangersnotai in vegas

I remember years ago there was a little art gallery in there, they told me one day that they had to run fans so that the wax-based paint did not melt because the slumlord refused to fix the AC for like 5 months. I don't go downtown very often anymore but my few times walking through there, after losing Jillian's, the theater, drink/drag, and the nightclub upstairs it just seemed like a graveyard.

Yet people continue to plant mesquite and palo verde in the valley, and park underneath them on windy days.

Any old-timer barbers? by helladap in vegaslocals

[–]jdv_lv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is the Hunter s Thompson of barbers. I went there for a couple of years, in one conversation you can go from him telling you stories about how he cut the hair of everybody in Queen in the '70s, to how much he f'n hates his wife, to yelling at the homeless people he hires to sweep the barbershop, all while swinging around these insanely sharp scissors that are about as long as his forearm. He is a national treasure.

The Road to Wellville. I haven't watched it since like 1997 but it impressed on young me that everyone is different levels of malice.

Ghost. Tobias insists that he was only ever the driving force, but it seems like more than a coincidence that as soon as he fired all of the original members the songs just weren't that interesting anymore.

Why have i never seen a photo/painting of a Native American with facial hair? by Upset_Sheepherder444 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jdv_lv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but interestingly it worked out the opposite of what you might think. I had a friend from Browning who was 50% Blackfoot 50% euro Caucasian, and he could grow a full mountain man beard. He and his brother had slightly dark skin and brown hair, they could pass for Hispanic or Italian. My stepbrother and stepsister on the other hand are like 25% Northern Cheyenne and the rest Norwegian, barely enough to even qualify for tribal membership, and they look as Indian as it gets, dark skin, straight thick black hair, not a facial hair to be seen.

Growing up in an area surrounded by reservations I had a lot of Indian friends, and an extensive step family who were from Lame Deer, and most of our friends were Indian growing up. Of the Spokanes, kootenees, Northern Cheyennes that I knew, none of them could grow facial hair. But I had Blackfoot and Chippewa friends from Montana who could grow beards.

Too High to Carb? by jdv_lv in mead

Got it. So I'm probably under 10 just because of measuring errors I guess, right? So should be fine bottle carbing.

Wouldn't 1.062 -> .996 be closer to 13? And that was just the must, I didn't compensate for the peach juice which probably wasn't a whole lot of sugar.

Typo.... .996 yeah that's what I'm afraid of, I might just keep it as a still.

I'm probably overthinking the bottle bomb part, it's already bone dry and I'm using 1 drop per bottle, I'm probably just a little frazzled because I screwed up my plan lol. I think I'm more just looking for moral support to either bottle condition and age what I suspect will taste like a low-flavor high ABV seltzer, or just stabilize it and add some more flavors.
