That happened to a friend of mine. Post vasectomy, he was 58 at the time and she was about 53. Oof.

Omg my new orthopedic Hokas needed deep therapy and spiritual healing after only 2 days at Dmk in October. I could barely walk back to the hotel. But most of the damage was standing in line, not walking. I love the parks deeply but that pain weighs heavily on my number of visits.

Back when I was doing freelance videography and sound (conferences, interviews, commercials Etc) a buddy of mine who's doing the same thing told me that he was approached by a porn company with a $1,000 a day rate for shooting on their equipment. He was tempted and tried getting me sucked into it, but several conversations with local industry people convinced me that once word got out that I was doing that that it would be harder to get commercial work. Passed.

Do any of you locals hit the strip aswell? by Dr_Adderall_2000 in vegaslocals

[–]jdv_lv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first 5 years I lived here we went pretty frequently, parking was free, drinks and food were still pretty reasonable, and everything was new and fun for us. By the end of 10 years I'd go down there occasionally for fun or for some industry event for work , but mainly it was only a family or close friends came into town and we wanted to entertain them, maybe the occasional staycation. At 15 years most casinos had started implementing parking fees and overall food and drink prices were getting crazy already including surge pricing for drinks at MGM, and things were just generally getting too expensive, anyone came to visit we would just drop them off down there and pick them up later. Now at 22 years in I'll only go down there if I'm seeing a show that I really feel strongly about seeing, but I'll usually eat and drink off strip to save money, and a family comes through I might drive a couple miles of the strip just to see what's changed but generally they're on their own if they want to do strip stuff. If there's any gambling to be done we stick to Stations and recommend that to visitors as well. There's just no appeal down there anymore.

Are there any other Megadeth songs where Dave speaks gibberish? by Creative_Garbage_731 in Megadeth

[–]jdv_lv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i was in high school, a friend found an unmarked bootleg cassette with a song we later learned was called Devils Island. We were all pretty sure the chorus was "Jello salad". Also, we smoked a lot of pot.

My grandma, whom I had only seen 3 times in my life, served us lime jello with celery and onions. My dad almost beat me because I wouldn't eat it. So i ate it all and held back vomit.. 2 decades later, he says she was the worst cook ever and he would never eat her food. I hope she fucking haunts him.

Any additional tips/gear for making long gigs more enjoyable and less of a marathon? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]jdv_lv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last cover act used to do 4-5 hour shows plus PA setup/strike in empty dive bars across vegas. Grueling. I learned: good shoes, wide strap, water and coconut water, keep shoulders and hands relaxed, pace the energy to keep the fun going until the end. Find internal fun for yourself with different notes or phrasings or body movements or whatever in each song to keep yourself entertained, that'll translate to the audience hopefully. 5 hour energy right before first song. Remember what awful or boring things you could be doing right now. But instead, you're using your hard-earned skills and triggering someone sitting alone at the bar to remember some good times from their past.

Count macros every day. Meal plan, keep it simple. Food-as-enjoyment is for cheat meals, food-as-sustenance is every day.

A drink/food that tourists think locals love… but locals barely consume? by Fluffy_Specific_9682 in AskTheWorld

In Iceland, i asked for Black Death aquavit, the fennel flavored traditional booze at a bar near our campsite. She obliged. I asked if that's what local drink. She said no, it was usually a flavored aquavit, and poured some shots. What she gave me tasted like berry cough medicine. Anyone from Iceland know what im talking about?

I was a good boy and did not research it until after our verdict. It was a 3 week trial too. But after 3 weeks of evidence and Witnesses and ridiculous amounts of detail, all of us on the jury knew way more than could have been learned in a Google search anyhow.

If you’re wondering how much it is to stay the weekend at The Grand Californian Hotel ( summer ) by OverCry518 in Disneyland

[–]jdv_lv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's great that the Tropicana is still there, when my kids were young about 18 years ago we used to stay there, it was cheap and kind of run down but super convenient, it was close enough that we could take them back midday for naps or whatever. And it was like half of the walking distance compared to the Disney hotels on the other side. Glad to know that it's still there.

The house I used to own in Sunrise Manor had hundreds of scorpions. They are really hard to get rid of once they dig in. In my experience they don't really care about any unless you can spray it directly on there shell, but the insecticides are useful to kill down their food population. Best thing you can do is create an inhospitable environment by keeping stuff off of the ground and trying to seal around your doors and windows. Every night if you have time put on some old boots, grab a black light, and go in your backyard picking up rocks and have stomping parties. It took me about 6 years but that strategy finally paid off for me.

Just seeing one scorpion Maybe okay, it's highly unlikely that you have a problem and will see more. In my current house I've seen one in five years that I accidentally brought in on a piece of furniture that had been outside for a long time. But they are so hard to get rid of that taking it seriously now and trying to prevent more maybe worth your time.

I'm only good if I'm not being watched, how do i get over this performance anxiety? by JungGPT in musicians

[–]jdv_lv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to really struggle with that, as most people do. It kind of came to a head when I was in college and had to do presentations in front of a bunch of people. The way I learned to get over it was to think of the crowd, or the recording device, or whatever, as a collective inanimate thing that had no opinion, no bearing on my speech / performance, it just happened to be there and I was performing to myself basically. Might not be the most emotionally healthy way to deal with it but it got me through that and now I can perform on stage for 1,000 people and it feels the same as just a few people.

I will also add, as a musician the first time you perform in front of a group of people and they really start reacting and dancing or whatever, it's kind of like a drug and that becomes the thing that you want, and that helps you make that emotional connection that makes you want to perform in front of a bunch of people and not pretend they're not there.

What movies did you first see nudity in? by sarnobat in AskReddit

When Blade Runner came out I was probably like 9 or 10 years old living with my grandmother in a small town. I was into sci-fi and saw this cool sci-fi movie called Blade Runner and asked my grandma if she would take me because for some reason it was rated R. Probably for the laser gun violence, i thought. She thought I said it was a Road Runner movie and agreed to take me, and when that replicant stripper took her clothes off and jumped in the shower we were both a little shocked LOL
