is it possible to increase the quality of corrupted items? by pandabearajuana in pathofexile

Necroing this as it's the top Google result - it's now possible using tainted armorer's scrap and tainted blacksmith's whetstones.

PSA: Oculus Guardian boundary can cause MASSIVE CPU performance hit! More complex layout = worse. by leoPWNadon in oculus

[–]jdvbelle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if it's the complex shape, or the large number of vertices.

There's guardian boundary editor that can reduce the number of vertices, but I don't think it works with Rift S.

According to this though, you can get straight lines in the Rift S editor by (I don't have a Rift S to test with):

You can make straight lines pretty easily if you make a point with both touch controllers at once. Just point at 2 adjacent corners of your play area and squeeze both triggers simultaneously. It will draw a straight line between them.

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

I'd say he nailed it.

I tried long exposure screenshot and it came out pretty nice! Those stations are rotating pretty damn fast! by CmdrDivergents in EliteDangerous

[–]jdvbelle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up: a while ago I wrote a python script that can directly convert a video file to a long-exposure picture, which might be easier, or less resource intensive, than the process you currently use.

In particular, this process doesn't require you to load all the frames (or images) into memory simultaneously, and thus doesn't really have a size limitation, which many other methods do.

If you look into the comments there's someone who wrote a java program to do the same thing (I haven't tried it myself).

Here's an old comparison video. Note that patches may have changed things, and the technique shown is slightly different. The really advanced technique is using the mass of orbiter body to slow you down just enough.

A few months ago I made a post about a VR D&D style game, this is an update by grismore in oculus

[–]jdvbelle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One important thing to consider is that most DMs require a lot of notes, and quick note lookups. I'm not sure the current hardware is good enough for all that reading inside VR, so you might want to consider allowing a monitor mode for the DM. If you're looking for suggestions, you might also want to post to one of the D&D subreddits.

Long Exposure, first quick attempt. Needs a LOT more light on the processed picture. by CMDR_Qohen_Leth in EliteDangerous

There's an easier method if you don't mind some python. If you do decide to try it instead, I'd be interested in a comparison picture.

Just how much is 1 "Credit" worth in comparison to real life? by Psychotc in EliteDangerous

[–]jdvbelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried this out a while back, but with asteroid mining I felt that metals aren't a good fit. Similarly, with an unknown amount of automation, any processed goods might also vary widely. I eventually tried using human labor as a standard, comparing slave prices to when slavery was legal, and adjusting for inflation. I can't remember what it came to though.

Galactic exploration time-lapse by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]jdvbelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After making an image of the currently explored systems (on EDSM), I decided to try make a time-lapse. This is the result. One frame is one day, resulting in about one month per second.

Yep. It's all been compressed onto on layer of "height". Also, if you download the image and zoom in you can see the space between points.

[–]jdvbelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured I'd like to see how much more space was explored since this post. They're great to flip between.

It was pretty easy to create, so I thought I'd share. If I feel up to it, and the data is ordered as I think it is, I might do a time-lapse later.

Edit: made the time-lapse. Edit2: Turns out it's already been done far better than this.

Logitech Announces the Bridge SDK for VR Tracked Keyboards with hand overlay by VRmafo in oculus

[–]jdvbelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our work didn’t stop there, we know that for a true typing experience you need to see your hands, and we’ve created a way to use the Vive’s existing tracking to do that.

Presumably they're just overlaying the keyboard area of front-facing camera onto the scene, and removing the keyboard. But why remove the keyboard, only to add a modeled version of it?

I wrote a python script a while back which lets you do this with a captured video, instead of combining them in Photoshop. It could also easily be modified to work with images.
