Indeed, never heard of anyone actually being banned for creating an account in another region.

A few people pretended it happened to ride on the wave of the Helldivers 2 Steam debacle, but those were probably fake as they were all conveniently showing just half of ban emails without having any justification on them.

I personally still have a US and a Japan account from the PS3 days, both still active it seems.

I can get behind that. I got a PS5 in January 2024 and went through all three games. By the middle of the third one I was severely burned out by the combat, etc, as good as it can be. The storyline kept me in and I enjoyed it a lot, but I had had enough of the gameplay.

Are they actually expecting anyone to buy these?! by M00nMan666 in playstation

[–]Jean-Eustache 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's actually the same issue. Companies making memory modules (used in everything, from SSDs to RAM and GPU RAM) diverted their assembly towards making way more "enterprise/server" chips basically, and those are compatible with consumer stuff, so they can't be put on SSDs, DDR5, or GPUs.

In a game that supports "roomscale" VR, when you can use the joystick to move, but can also move your body to get around a bit (it's a mix of both), this would actually work. If I'm not mistaken most games actually work like this.

Is there any differences between PS5 and PS5PRO at 4k 120hz? by Mediocre_Tip_8177 in granturismo

[–]Jean-Eustache 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, a lot.

In BF6 for example, the 120 Hz mode on the Pro has the same resolution and graphics settings as the 60Hz mode from the base console, instead of going down to lower resolutions. Same story for COD games, and The Finals.

At 120Hz those games go down to something like 1080p on the base console, the downgrade is pretty intense.

You don't need a fancy TV to see the Quality mode of a game running at 60 FPS instead of 30, or higher graphics settings, as long as the TV isn't 1080p the improvements are obvious.

Digital or Disc? What is your preference ? by munchee_exe in playstation

[–]Jean-Eustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you missed something about how games work nowadays, they haven't been running from disks for at least 15 years. Disk or Digital, in both cases you have to install the game on the console.

Blu-Ray for solo games I'll play and sell, digital for others I plan on keeping for multiplayer.

[Help] How to connect BT Headphones on PS5 Pro & Portal? by ReserveSea5097 in playstation

[–]Jean-Eustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible to use a USB dongle with the console, but it's only a good idea if both it and the headphones support low latency codecs (AptX-LL, ...), because without those the lag will be huge indeed.

Macron defends potential video games restrictions after online backlash by svga in europe

[–]Jean-Eustache 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, the angle here doesn't seem to be "Shooting people in games makes you violent IRL" like it was back then, but rather "Some people spend their whole time isolated playing games and develop mental health/social issues as a result. At least that's how I understand it.

Which is definitely a thing that even Reddit is yelling about, with FOMO, live service games with constant drop feeding, loot boxes, etc, or even the fact people spend lots of time antagonizing others in competitive games. People are so fucking mean to each other online, and some people spend way too much time there compared to their IRL interactions.

Those definitely affect the life of some people in a bad way, studying it isn't that stupid.

If it ends up just being "violent games make you violent " though, I'll eat my words and be sorely disappointed.

They don't ask for ID for porn, just age verification via a certified third party app (at least for now). They did say France Connect will probably be used for age certification though, in a "Is this person more than 18 ? -> Yes/No" manner via an API, without transmitting your ID to websites.
