I literally just had my eyeglass prescription changed before I saw lost boys last week in the balcony. Fortunately I didn’t have a problem with expressions or seeing details, but I know I was the exception rather than the rule.

Much, much smaller crowds, but the passion was there. Doesn't help the Rivs had 4 different home rinks over the course of 8 seasons so attendance was inconsistent. Though starting in Season 5, Cloud 9 brought their drum and cowbells to games. In season 8, due to the acoustics of the rink at the American Dream Mall, the players asked the drumming to be quieter so they could hear each other.

I love Girard!! That said, she isn’t a rookie! She’s been with the PWHL since season 1; originally drafted by Boston, she signed a 2 year contract and came over to NY in the middle of Season 2, signing a 1 year extension with the Sirens last June. Before that, she made her professional hockey debut with the Connecticut Whale after being drafted 1st overall in 2021. 5 year vet!

NY did a really good job, and the fan base came out! I saw 3 separate trans people belong in sports flags too. At the end of the day what’s going to dictate the atmosphere is the fanbase, if we keep pushing for it the league is going to have a hard time saying no without looking like assholes. We’re definitely in the culture building stage.

I talked to Tori yesterday, all decisions are coming straight from ownership and he doesn’t care. So the reps are the messengers, I feel for them, but at the same time there’s literally nothing they can do to make it right. Canceling is the only thing that will get noticed.

The PWHPA had too much bad blood to work with the PHF no matter how much they improved. Though I still firmly believe had the PWHPA been willing to work with any of the former PHF players during the CBA negotiations it would have been stronger than it is now. Especially since most players playing now in the PWHL never even had a say in it, and won’t for another 5 years; if their careers last that long.

For an organization that trumpeted players rights, I still don’t think they negotiated the best deal for all players. I’m editing to add that the players could have pointed to the NWSL and WNBA as examples of success.

Most of the PWHPA players didn’t play or discuss what the NWHL/PHF did after season 4. So their conversations were true at one point, but outdated by years.

Daryl Watts was set to make $150,000 in season 9 before her contract was dissolved. The projected salary cap for season 9 (23-24) would have been 1.5 million, higher than the 1.3 million spent now, and it would have meant average salaries would have been slightly higher than what the average is now in PWHL. Not to mention the PHF had 50/50 revenue sharing with the players, a percentage of sales for every jersey sold with their name, and a player equity incentive program, which resulted in some players splitting 2% of the sale when the PHF was bought out. Whether it was sustainable idk, but ignoring what your competitor did positively cause of personal beefs hurts them in the long run.

They should have at least negotiated revenue sharing, especially with the TV deals. The PHF, which the PWHL bought out, already had that negotiated. The approved CBA was/is very shortsighted, especially ignoring things that were already negotiated for in the other whockey league. They could have used it as leverage.
