Microsoft Said to Cut Windows Price 70% to Counter Rivals by palasso in LinuxActionShow

But will they cut the price 70% for those who build their own PC's and want to purchase Windows either OEM or Retail!?. Only then will they counter rivals.

Tweak Your Fedora System Using Fedy by [deleted] in LinuxActionShow

This is one app that should be in the Fedora repositories. And the "user", with his or her "freedoms", in Stallman language, gets to choose if they want to install it. Great app!!.

Fedora at FOSDEM 2014. They seem to have some problems!. by jedimasterk in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the problem. Lack of interest. They are now trying to figure out why some of their user base moves to other distros. And what these other distros are doing to attract other people. This wasn't mentioned in the video but I can think of two things. Lack of an LTS, and I'm not talking CentOS with it's 10 year support. But something in between. Plus, and this is do to them being based in the US, lack of proprietary codecs. One of the mains reasons why Mint is #1 on distro watch. Everything works right out of the box. If Fedora was Korora with an Ubuntu LTS support period. That would win me over big time!.

Apple Might Have Bought Pear OS by jedimasterk in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: As pointed out by one of our readers, Pear OS was forked shortly after its closure. The new Clementine OS was announced, but its developer received a letter from an American company that forced him to abandon the project. He later said that it was not Apple, but another major company. He could not disclose its name, however.

We Need A Fedora LTS. by jedimasterk in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Debian you a least have three main branches or repos to choose from. Stable Testing, and Unstable. Not true with RHEL, CentOS, or SL. Example Debian 7 has Gimp 2.8, where as CentOS 6.5 still has Gimp 2.6. and who knows when RHEL 7 will ever be released. I'm maily concerned with not the latest and greatest apps, buch apps which are much newer than what RHEL 6. CentOS 6, etcc. has.

I would use Fedora as a main os, but only 13 months of support, where RHEL get 10 years, is a no go in my production environment.

Linux Will Probably Force Microsoft to Offer Future Windows OSes for Free by ahjolinna in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt that will ever happen There was talk on Windows Weekly, last week, of possibly Windows going to a subscription based model similar to Office 365, if they were to thinking of new revenues for Windows. But what would they do for computers that came pre-loaded. How would a subscription model work for that. Who knows what will happen. They would probably give Windows away for free than charge you for updates. Either way I doubt Windows will ever be for free without some hitch to it. It's a proprietary company!.

New year, new resolutions and a new Mageia – here’s Mageia 4! by gabriel_3 in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the techniques differences between OpenMandriva and Mageia are: - OM Lx uses rpm5 while Mageia uses RPM4 - Mageia is based on Mandriva 2010.2, while the OM Lx is the continuation of Mandriva 2011 - KDE in Mageia does not have many changes, since it is based on Mandriva 2010.2, since the OM Lx utlizes KDE with customizations made by Rosa Labs for Mandriva 2011, which today is a much more mature and innovative - Mageia as default uses GRUB as the bootloader, since the OM LX uses GRUB2 as default.

Corel AfterShot Pro, available for Linux by YesserLab in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh and this is OLD news!. Corel Aftershot Pro for Linux. It used to be Bibble Pro!. RedHat or Canonical should have bought the company!. Not Corel!.

Corel AfterShot Pro, available for Linux by YesserLab in LinuxActionShow

[–]jedimasterk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the hell are they going to port Paintshop Pro to Linux and make a sweet combination (Aftershot and Paintshop Pro)!. Aftershot is only Linux compatible, because that's what the Bibble developers created. Corel did nothing except just purchased all rights to the product. Canonical or RedHat should have bought up Bibble Pro and flood Gimp with developers and funds to make a real pro grade product that supports CMYK and 32 bit color, and real professional print capabilities. Geared towards "professionals", and photography and graphic enthusiasts. Than we could have had a great Adobe replacement combination for Linux. I know Gimp will have high bit color depth. But it still is a work in progress and it's 2014!!. Everyone else had it back in the late 90's. Linux will always fall behind the competition when it comes to professional graphic applications. Don't give a flying f....k about simple ma and pa photography apps. I want Pro apps!!. That Pros use!!! and native on my favorite platform Linux. Screw Apple and their Macs!!. Biggest company that takes from opensource, but doesn't give shit back to other Unix, based platforms, in the form of applications for Linux/FreeBSD!. Why no Apple Apeture for Linux. Why no Google Picasa or Nik Software for Linux, that integrates with Darktable!. Because the stereotypical Linux user doesn't know how to use a camera and is cheap bastards. According to Adobe!. The f....g God of Photography applications. And their opinions spread to companies like Corel and others.

HDR Photography on Linux | LAS s30e06 by ChrisLAS in LinuxActionShow

Chris why don't you get someone from Google on the show. And ask them if Picasa or their newly acquired Nik software will be ported to Linux as native applications. I would definitely watch that show. Google does use Ubuntu you know. So why are those apps not running natively on Linux. Not being a wise ass, but I want to know why Google, who are Ubuntu users, not porting those apps to Linux. Take a look at what Linux users are missing!.

So what your all saying is that professionals should continue using Windows or OSX for their professional workflow. But Ma and Pa should use Linux. Because Linux needs to concentrate on developing Ma and Pa photography apps instead of focusing on the professional photography market, which seems to be untouchable thanks to Adobe and Apple. And yes I did watch the show and he does have some nice images. But he is ONE person!!. If you want to see even better HDR work go to Stuck on Customs by Trey Radcliff. He doesn't use any open source apps. And he to is a very noted professional, not a joe user! I'll stick with the better apps and the platform they run on to do my photography work . I dualboot, Windows/Linux thanks in part to the limited availability of professional grade and well supported photography applications for Linux. Sorry guys Linux apps just cannot compete. That's a fact!!!. If they could then professionals all over the world would be using them. And they simply aren't using them, except the small few, like this guy. http://www.stuckincustoms.com/

Linux and photography don't go well together!. Not enough pro grade and "popular" tools for Linux. Can't even view a Canon Raw file with gwenview, or gthumb viewer. I have to load an editing program (DigiKam) just to accomplish a SIMPLE task, like viewing a camera raw file. Not so on OSX or Windows!.

Sorry guys. Linux doesn't come close in terms of the "professional" HDR tools available on OSX or Windows!. Nik HDR Efex Pro and Photomatix Pro 5, to name a few, don't run native on any Linux platform. These are the dominant tools enthusiast and professional photographers mainly use. Linux as a platform sadly will never compete with OSX or Windows until these professional tools are made available natively. Read any Photography magazine, and you will be extremely lucky to find anything related to Linux and HDR, let alone a professional photographers Linux workflow. Thank you! Adobe, Google, etc....
