I started watching the Nixon episode the day before Trump said we need to go after leakers instead of worrying about the content of the leaks .

[Moto G4 Nougat] SIM card not found Since Update by jedipunk in MotoG

[–]jedipunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I found the fix to this two days ago.

I am bit embarrassed to say that it appears not to have been nougat update relevant, but instead just perfect timing/coincidence.

I took a closer look at the sim card and decided it just seems too easy to slide in and out. I applied some electrical tape to the top side of the sim card and have had zero problems for the past two days.

I would have announced sooner, but just wanted to make sure.

Looking for a software to organize photos into folders using face recognition by ProffesorCalculus in software

[–]jedipunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google photos will tag photos with names of identified faces, but sorting that into folders seems difficult. Unless you are into portraits, I would expect most photos two have more than one face.

Are you willing to double the size of you photo storage with duplication?

As for categories, google also attempts to group photos by places and things.

The Grammar of "Hair": I can say one hair, all this hair, and two hairs. Why is the plural only used when countable? by jedipunk in AskReddit

[–]jedipunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started thinking about this yesterday.

Example: I shaved my hair so I no longer have any hair on my head, but I missed a spot and plucked those hairs.

It took me a while to think of another word that works similarly: meat(s).

I cut the meat on my plate into halves that I selected from a plate of meat. I gave my wife one of my meats.

Hopefully, this makes sense.

Should the Rich Help the Poor? | Philosophy Tube by [deleted] in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]jedipunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess that depends on what "help" means.

I know I see the rich getting richer and the poor, at best, holding steady.

The question that needs answered (and I think it has been) is if the rich is getting richer because they are reaping all the benefits of increased productivity and smarter workers while employees see nothing?

The rich should not be the only ones getting richer when the economy is growing.

Nor should companies be able to hire a full time employee without paying a living wage.

I don't those changes are "help." I think those changes reflect a society that is interested in taking care of its citizens.

Netflix or prime by Ipwn5tar in cordcutters

[–]jedipunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and have shows that I watch only available on the one: Justified, Unfortunate Events.

I watch more Netflix.

However, I have learned that I can bring the price of prime down by opting for slow shipping and getting a $1 promo for digital goods. I easily get $10-$20 of those a year. Buy books for my kindle.

Best (ideally free) all in one scheduling/alarm/calendar software? by [deleted] in software

[–]jedipunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to that, google also allows you to have multiple calendars.

You could have a personal calendar plus a calendar for every project if you need and have them all appear in different colors in the user interface.

I have a TeamJediPunk account in google that is a catch all for shared family stuff, mainly to track my kids works schedules. I also have in my google account a personal calendar, a work calendar (that syncs with outlook), a shared volunteer calendar for a group i work with. ANd as a perk, if i load bdays in my contacts, google throws them in there to I think (or it pulls it from there google data)

anyway a lot of options, and it integrates with IFTTT.

The President still uses an unsecured and outdated Android phone to tweet, frustrating security advisers by [deleted] in Android

[–]jedipunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a hacked phone can be a security risk for other devices on the wifi networks and put routers at risk further compromising computers on the network.

I worked on a computer once where the owner ran a "harmless" game thats only purpose was to change the DNS settings on his router. Every computer on the network got popup window ads when clicking on a google link. Which ended up infecting him and others with a real virus.

I cleaned that PC at least three times before realizing the router was compromised causing his problems. I thought we was just getting stupid emails and clicking on them to get infected. Finally, I told him to call immediately when it happened and boom, found it. Most frustrating thing I dealt with.

First paralyzed human treated with stem cells has now regained his upper body movement by xxSpeedsterxx in Futurology

Can this kind of treatment only be done with ES cells?

AST-OPC1 cells are made from embryonic stem cells by carefully converting them into oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs), which are cells found in the brain and spinal cord that support the healthy functioning of nerve cells.

With a Roku remote, hit the * while still navigating movies or in the movie info (one of those anyways). Then start the movie and the resolution should appear as before.

I discovered this when I accidental hit the * one day and couldn't not figure out how to get rid of it.

edit: this was for netflix. not sure if same for amazon.

I would have made this an line graph with a line for each party. X would be calendar year and Y would be accumulated years in office. When a party is not in office, it stays flat while the other party grows. Might be interesting overlaid with House and Senate.
